Doctor Who - Every Episode that Ends with the Doctor's Face (1963-2020)

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 17 มี.ค. 2020
- It's a classic Doctor Who trope - cut to the Doctor's confused/scared/worried face and cut to end credits! Here is a fun little compilation of every episode that ends of the Doctor's face (not just limited to cliffhangers). Enjoy!
A few notes about the criteria I used:
1. Nothing can obscure the Doctor's face (hands, masks, etc.)
2. Shots must be shoulders up or closer
3. No other characters can be the equal focus of the Doctor; other characters are allowed in frame as long as they are in the background or facing away from the camera
4. Missing episodes will not be included as we simply can't know what the final shot would've actually been - บันเทิง

Where is remembrance of the daleks dalek cellar scene??
@@chasetheskies When I made the video, I thought the Doctor's face was too obscured by the Dalek's vision to include it (see note #1 in the description). Although I don't think I agree with that decision now.
Shush
😂😂😂
do one but with companions
Logopolis 4 ?
Peter Davison’s face always looks like he can hear the sting at the end but can never quite place where it’s coming from
Meanwhile Tom Baker's is like he's got a migrane being set off by the sting
@@SStupendous i mean i would too if it happened at random intervals and i couldn't find out where it was and i couldn't fucking stAND THE SOUND OF IT
William Hartnell looks perturbed because he doesn't have a sting.
Sylvester looks like he’s figured it out but he hates it
This comment is gold!
It's insane how that sting has lasted through nearly 57 years of television.
It's a pretty amazing creation.
It sounds good that's why.
With slight variations, but yeah, it's mostly stayed
It wasn't used in the programme till the 3rd Doctor, The Ambassadors of Death specifically.
@@yannatoko9898 But Either Way Is Still Part of Deila Derbyshire's Original Theme.
I like how Tom Bakers are almost all him in pain or unconscious
Yea 😂
Gotta love how Jon Pertwee managed a different expression on every single one of his.
isn't that basically why he's hired
Meanwhile William Hartnell did the exact same face every time 🤣
Gotta love that trial of a time lord seems like the same shot of Colin on trial over and over again
Before the Fashion Tribunal of Gallifrey 😉
All I could think of when I clicked on this was the myriad of Trial of a Timelord dramatic zooms on Colin's face.
Ha, well that's rather fitting as that was what inspired the video!
I was surprised that Sylvester McCoy had so many episodes ending with a face. I thought it nearly had the full run.
@@Merganman4 Only thing is, missed the famous ending in Remembrance of the Daleks when 7th is pinned by a flying Dalek!
@@SStupendous Yeah, at the time I purposefully left it out because I thought the Doctor's face was too obscured by the Dalek's vision to include it (see note #1 in the description). But I've since changed my mind on that (and unfortunately it's too late to change it!)
@@Merganman4 Oh well. Just thought it was too iconic a scene to miss out!
My favourite is the Troughton one where he looks like he’s being startled by the names in the credits 😂
Now that its cannon that the doctor can hear non diagetic music its most likely that he actually was
Idk why but 4:11 makes me laugh so hard, the intensity of that one shot followed up with Colin Bakers blank stare is amazing lmao.
HELPP I WHEEZES LMAO
Even better with context: the 5th Doctor, held at gunpoint, resisting the urge to regenerate, about to crash land a ship, so that he can try to save his companion who is dying.
Then in the very next episode: the 6th Doctor has an ego now?
I love how Peter Davison has basically the exact same slightly confused/concerned look on his face in almost every single one of his clips.
And so does Jodie...
I love how literally every cliffhanger from Trial of a Time Lord is on here.
two from Terror of the Vervoids aren't there.
@@FreeAssange Two from the Vervoid sequences* aren’t there. (How you described it is not the story’s name.)
@@FreeAssangeneither is the one from Ultimate Foe part 2, which is strange considering that the Valeyard was technically the Doctor.
@@DrWhoFanJExcept those are it's names... That's like saying War of the Sontarans isn't an episode name cuz it's Flux Part 2... It's both, and likewise Terror of the Vervoids Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 are also Trial of a Timelord Parts 9, 10, 11, and 12.
For some reason I find this video really funny. Just 7 minutes of the Doctor looking into the camera
Patrick Troughton: Has 5 over his whole era
Jon Pertwee: Has 5 before his first season is even over
This was the compilation I didn't know I needed but extremely thankful it exists.
there was probably more but a lot of his episodes are missing
My takeaway from this was that Troughton's Doctor preferred to be on the edge of things, observing, whereas Pertwee's Doctor preferred to be centre stage with all eyes on him! Maybe reaching a bit, but I feel that's an accurate summary of their characters
As missing and animatef episodes arent here his era and hartnells wont havd then all
And Ecclestone Has None whatsoever
@@Joey15811 Meanwhile, Matt Smith has two.
I love how Pertwee's cliffhangers are either him staring intensely at something or him having a seizure
The Pertwee ones are amazing!
pertwees run was so much fun!
He was the king of "gurning" as Tereance Dicks called it. No one did those bewildered faces as good as he.
@@ThePsycoDolphin Yeah he was very expressive.
Right, cut it open!
His endings started the buzz sound effect
Some of the Hartnell ones are downright creepy. I love it.
3:30 Two old Tom Baker’s in a row. What a coincidence 🙃
Neat
Conicidence. Yes.
*sting intensifies*
The Trial of a Time Lord sting is GODLY
@@michaelpuglisi6767 best one for sure
I like how Toms transition from always in ungodly pain to always laughing
3:31 OMG An aging make up effect that accurately predicted what an actor would look like in the future!
Yeah, no. They filmed that years later for the special edition.
Let's hope that's a joke - you never know these days.
3:14 Tom Baker stares into your soul...
Yes his segment is actually quite disturbing.
Eccelston was camera shy lol
He wasn’t a good place in his life at that time.
And smith
Well, he didn't have much time and the new series has far fewer cliffhangers

EEEEEEEEUHWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
WAOOOOOOOOWWWWWW
Great work. A fascinating snapshot. Surprised none of the Eccleston episodes ended this way. I would suggest there could well be several more Hartnell and Troughton face endings that are lost. So great to hear so many different versions of "the sting" too!
The reconstruction of evil of the Daleks episode 6 ends on a shot of the doctors face, however we don't know for certain if that's how the original episode ended because it's lost
Does The Doctor Dances not count?
th-cam.com/video/3sWNb-4upBY/w-d-xo.html
To be honest, I watched this mostly for the zoom in's on good old Sixie :D
Same
Before watching, I am expecting a LOT of Colin Baker Trial crash zooms.
The ironic thing is that me and a friend were laughing at the Trial of a Time Lord Cliffhangers earlier today... then this...
That's not irony, that's a coincidence 😎
It's the "doingoioioioinnnn" sound effect of the sting followed by the zoom in on Colin's face that makes me lose it everytime. lol
Everybody Gangsta till the camera zooms in on Colin Baker's face
I love the look at 4:59, it’s just confused and mildly frustrated. Like if someone asked me if I wanted milk in my green tea and was super persistent about it.
LMAO all of the Peter Davidson expressions are the same
I believe if you listen to some if the commentaries (which with Janet Fielding are an absolute laugh riot) I think they point this out. I distinctly remember Davidson and the rest royally taking the piss out if him for having to do that kind of strained "OH MY GAWD" higher internation voice thing constantly, and running out of ways to do it after a while that didn't make him look like he was straining a pile.
Exactly the content I need during quarantine
Glad you enjoyed it!
the 3rd doctor's face at 1:43 had me laughing for a good 2 minutes-
Probs the face he made when he saw how many people turned up to his first convention.
Here's the rest of the scene leading up to it: th-cam.com/video/lKVR1x5eFmY/w-d-xo.html
It's probably one of the most ridiculous cliffhangers in the show.
2:42 and 3:27 are priceless 😂 same with literally pretty much every Colin and Sylvester one
Zoom in on Colin Baker's face in the Trial of a Timelord episodes is iconic to me. lol
To start with the beginning of the end theme music was very annoying, coming after every clip.I thought 'I wish he'd just put it all to one music track'.
But as time moved on and the intro kept changing with the different versions of the theme, I found it strangely hypnotic. Well done.
I'm glad you liked it! I wasn't too sure about it at first myself, but watching it as a whole I felt it actually worked quite well!
I love it all, especially with the sting later on
actually better than I expected
Excellent compilation. As others have commented, it’s strange that Eccleston was never given a close up episode ending
Sylvester McCoy was definitely the best at this 😁
Sylvester McCoy is my favorite. And his sting is fantastic, second only to the Trial of A Time Lord one.
==}
I will never hear that sting the same again 😂
Peter Davidson can't make any face other than Slightly Happy, Confused or In Pain.
It’s what we love him for, lol. Though I would add panicked/anxiety attack to that.
this is my new favorite video on youtube
4:22 that's me listening to this over and over again.
I love this device! There are so many incredible facial expressions that end episodes on a note of great suspense and intensity, and the musical cue would so often cause the hairs on the back of my neck to prickle. But then you get to the Tom Baker years and a lot of the episodes end on close ups of him laughing, which is perfect for his Doctor. And then honestly? For all the things New Who does better than the original series, it just doesn't use that 'final shot' technique anywhere near as well. William Hartnell figured out how to do it better within the first season of the show than anyone has done it in the past 15 years. I wonder why...
Is it me or does Pertwees smile at 1:47 remind anyone elses of Eccelson's smile throughout his tenure. I wonder if that was deliberate?
2:42 Looks like the Tom's had enough of these cliffhangers.
3:18 Tom Baker on set for 7 years.
Is it just me or does Tom and Colin baker look in constant pain at the end of most of his episodes
This video is hilarious! I love how you can hear very faintly the end credits’ music about to start every time. Love your channel, I’m subscribing :)
Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed!
I never thought that I'd needed this in my life...until now! hahaha xD
This is amazing - especially the Pertwee section :D
Glad you enjoyed it!
That's right. I am all around you. I am the computer.
Never realized I would need this
It is rather satisfying in a way, isn't it?
This is just a way to flex about watching every episode
Ha! Well, for this compilation I just skipped to the end of every episode. But yes, I have seen all of them 😉
Tom Baker literally always in pain or unconscious... lol
Shout-out to you for not spoiling 5:32!
This is great, thanks!
Always wanted something like this, love it!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Merganman4 It’s wonderful!
These are amazing without context

Sarah Jane would the best. She always looked ready to witness a grisly murder.
Is it really Doctor Who if someone isn't staring at their certain doom off camera or laughing like a lunatic?
Fantastic! (Best I could come up with :)
1st and 2nd Doctors start humming: Dun-dun-duuun dun-dun-dun...
3rd Doctor comes in and everyone goes: EEEEWWWRGHHHHHHHH!!!
6th Doctor: No, it starts as that, but it's actually "Psssh-eweweweeewee".
7th Doctor: Sorry, but you're all wrrrong, it's a sparkly "OOOOOOwoooowooooo"
8th and 9th: Are we a joke to you all?
10th Doctor: Nah, lets go back to the "EEEEWWWRGHHHHHHHH!!!"
11th Doctor: Yeah man, I like the "EEEEEE" thing, but lets get serious and tone it down a notch.
War Doctor: **serious silence (even the crickets are afraid to speak)**
12th Doctor: Tone it down? You kids muted it - it's "EEEEWooowooowoooowoooooo"
13th Doctor: No, I think it's really "EEEEWWWRGHHHHHHHH!!!", but Chinny is right.
When it came to the 7th Doctor portion of the video, it sounded like the theme is trying to play but only manages to get one string in before having to restart each time.
The Collin Baker ones did not disappoint.
I wonder how many more of these we’re missing out on in the missing episodes…
We would never have known that one from enemy of the world if it wasn’t recovered… unless there was a Tele snap, but even then we had no garauntee that was the final shot of the ep
my favourite one was the ascencion one it was edged and timed perfectly
Tom Bakers is a journey through a rather intense acid trip.

1:18 That's the Episode my Library got rid of, *for some reason* and I never watched it...
What is soo special about this episode...Well it has the voice actor Wallace from Wallace and Gromit!!!
Oh yes 4:13 the moment we waited for
When the 3rd Doctor showed up, OH MY GOD THAT NOISE! NOW I remember why that sound terrified & IRRITATED me! OH 2:57 that look & 3:03 that look/face!

Trial of Timelord is prob a fifth of this list
The good old soap opera staring ending 😆
Lots of fun to watch these particular type of cliffhanger from over the years! Btw, how did you manage to get the right texture for the jodie font at the end?
Hey, I just want to say I'm subscribed to you and I love your videos! Glad you enjoyed this compilation!
To answer your question, these were the settings I used in Premiere Pro: imgur.com/5v8AQja. For the colours, the lighter one was value DBAC4F and the darker one was value 8A4E38. And then I keyframed a couple of lens flares over top to finish off.
Hope this helped!
At first I was pissed that Eccleston and McGann were left out of the thumbnail, but then I watched the video and I understood why lol.
Ha - don't worry, I wouldn't leave them out without good reason! Their shorter time in the role unfortunately meant they never got a moment like this.
Love how all the episodes end with the eeerrrrrr sound
Watch as Tom gets thinner every time and Colin gets bigger every time.
The trademark who “buzz” started with Pertwee, so hartnell and troughton never had their own “buzz” at the end of the episode
I can't believe the ninth doctor didn't have any episodes that ended with his face
Well to be fair, he only had 13 episodes (one of which he was gone by the end!)
The lack of even one of these for Christopher Eccleston is disturbingly odd.
That's what a lack of episodes will do for you! It's definitely used a lot more sparingly in the New Series.

i.e. pretty much every part of Trial Of A Timelord! Those zooms lol
Only thing I actually like about the sixth doctor
I like this 👍👍
An episode list would have been awesome
Just created a pinned comment with one!
My mind is utterly blowing up that Christopher Eccleston's face doesn't appear at the end of any of these. I know it's not an original observation, but my god! I think someone needs to recut all his episodes so every single end of a scene, we see the ninth Doctor's face - even if he's not actually in the scene. - we have to redress the balance, by god!
Even wide-screen TV wasn't wide enough for his ears.
After a while it starts to sound like a game of Galaga.
2:00 maybe this is why Doctor who ditched the sting for Capaldi. They knew this day would come...
This video is so oddly specific...
The cliffhanger of Meglos part 1 had the Doctor's face (although it was Meglos in disguise).
That's why I decided not to include it.
