Love that you pronounce Brisbane the way we Australians do. And Brissy! Awesome! Yes we put a 'y' on everything. And most male names have 'o' at the end. Davo, Johno etc. Hope you have a wonderful trip. 😀

Nice vid Brocky. Remember it’s the land of droughts and flooding rains, generally blowing dust, never rains when you want it too, when it does it’s too bloody much. Enjoy.👍🇦🇺

Welcome to Australia. Thanks for bring some rain with ya. We live among the cane fields near Bundaberg (Aussies call it Bundy) about 300kms north of Brissy. I suppose it could be called sub tropical here I'd say only because the wet season is in the summer. I'm checking out your channel because I watch your Missus and she said you were comin over. Safe travels 👍🇭🇲

I just finished Sandi’s vlog and knew you were going to Australia and decided to see what you were up to before I see all your other video’s. I always wanted to go visit Australia until I found about all the things that can kill you. 😱Always thought it was a beautiful looking country.

So happy you made it there safe. Enjoy your time. Temps where I live are 40°c usually but you brought the rain.
Number 1 tip when driving - Keep in the left lane unless overtaking, the cops will fine you for it.
Number 2 - don’t hold your camera or phone, they will nail you big time for it.

Enjoyed your video, and happy to see the rain in Australia. I loved the old wool compressor on that sheep farm, which reminded me of Sandi's recent video on sheering the pregnant ewes. Sandi is the 'Mother of Invention' on your farm, as her method of stomping and jumping on top of her bagged wool to compress it, eliminates the cost of another piece of machinery. :-)

Welcome to Queensland. More rain forecast this week with the tropical cyclone off the coast. If the roads flooded check the flood height markers. Also it's common for roads to wash away here. Drive safe and be careful.

So glad to have found your channel - I've come over from Sandi's channel. I live about 3.5 hours north of Dalby. The road from Brisbane to Toowoomba is the area called "The Salad Bowl of Queensland" as there are so many farms there. I drove a sick horse from Monto down to Oakey horse hospital and back the same day a few years ago - it was quite a trek. Vast is the best way to describe Australia. We had a friend visit from US for 12 months and he couldn't believe how much driving we had to do to go anywhere (We're 2.5 hrs from shopping centres). The black soil in Dalby area is very sticky when it's been raining.

Even though the country side is green now our farmers have gone through more grief than can be believed with droughts. If the areas you saw don't get follow up rains the land will turn brown again in the blink of an eye.
Many country towns including in the area where you were have been trucking water into the towns because their traditional sources have dried up.
Thanks for your perspective on Australia.
You will probably have worked out their isn't a lot of difference between Canadian and Australian farming but we need higher average rainfalls because of our baking summers.
Watching another channel in Montana they can produce with as little as 9 inches whereas here 12 inches is the minimum required for dryland cropping.

    • @anthonyvanboxtel558
      @anthonyvanboxtel558 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't know about that. Some spots in the Wimmera pulled 6 to 8 ton a hectare of barley, oats and wheat of just under ten inches rain for the entire year. Not sure exactly what they got through the growing season though. Australia is so varied with its soil types it's extremely hard to say a statement like that.

Last year was dreadful for the wimmera mallee. Driest on record.
We had no rain for 4 months last year in the central goldfields.
This year, the rain has been good.
      Go figure. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The climate up there they can grow two crops for the year but been dry for last few years. Very old shearing shed with very old wool press, we have 3 stand shearing with much newer wool press. We run 1000 poll merino Dorset sheep 20 micron wool plus good meat sheep. Hope you get see some shearing action so you can send to your wife, maybe make do some woolclassing.

Typical Australian weather (although to a more extreme extent!) massive heat, drought and fires, then it rains and floods everywhere. Dalby’s under a flood at the moment, lucky you got out when you did. Although the saying here is, “If it’s flooded, forget it” it’s a very dangerous thing to drive through out flood waters.
