  • Let's chat about the history of Fritz Leiber's swords & sorcery literature in relation to D&D. We unbox Dungeon Crawl Classics' Lankhmar box set. And I tell you why I think it's a great setting for any D&D campaign.

I'm so glad this setting is being preserved by someone.

A great sword and Sorcery setting. I have the old 2e boxed set which includes a modified ruleset, up to 10th level. I have the dcc set too

I ran a campaign using the old AD&D Lankhmar boxed set, so I think it's a great idea. Admittedly, I think it's better suited to DCC than D&D. I will admit that as far as I'm concerned Fafhrd and the Mouser are the archetypical D&D party.

How did you find the old school version paired with AD&D?

@@Lo-Fi_Gaming_ I liked it, but I'd already been including elements of Nehwon in my home games for a few years before it came out using the stuff in Deities and Demigods. It did have enough variant rules that I had to basically start a new game from scratch rather than just plopping Lankhmar in my pre-existing D&D setting. I had also read all the available books and even the old-school comics from the early 70's.

@@Lemurion287 that’s cool. I completely blanked that Deities had the Nehwon stuff in it!

Issek of the Jug, that was hilarious. Shelba & Ningauble. Shelba was a play on Baba Yaga with her walking hut. The books are a great treasure. Gary definitely read them , that’s where the thief class comes from.

I have the D&D Lankmar supplement and a couple modules. Even better than that I have the entire saga.

@@Lo-Fi_Gaming_I still have my boxed set, what I loved most was the adventure generator, I created years of campaigns with it, for many settings. It's amazing and deserves being republished.

I've been dying to run something in Lankhmar for quite some time now! Maybe this video is a good sign to actually do it.
