    Canada's largest mall is now home to West Edmonton Mall Toyota, the largest in-mall car dealership in Canada! The journey from Sears, which opened in 1981 at WEM, to a major car dealership and vehicle showroom has been a long one.
    But finally, the highly anticipated addition, formerly known as Mayfield Toyota, is now at West Edmonton Mall as it opens its doors for the first time!

    Imo the most game changing thing about this is that they're open during mall hours. That's huge for people who work during the day. You could drop off your car and catch a movie. I love the idea

    Such a smart business move for both Toyota and Wem. People come in to service their cars and then go shopping while waiting.

      Honestly, it's good for the customer too. I'd much rather have the option of window shopping, grabbing a bite to eat at the food court... Playing mini golf. I don't have to do these things, but having them available to me is way better than sitting at a dealership lounge.

    I bought a 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime from Mayfield Toyota in April. I haven't seen them at the mall yet but I knew they were moving there. When my vehicle needs service at least I can wander around the mall and not be limited to a small waiting room.

    Ha! We were there yesterday! What a genius idea. Drop the car off for service and pick up before 9pm. Movies, shopping, food, little gambling, brilliant. 😆

    Reminds me of the Oldsmobile dealership inside of a fictional suburban Chicago shopping mall (Dixie Square) from the 1980 film The Blues Brothers where Jake and Elwood are chased by the Illinois state police while wrecking the place in their Dodge Monaco Bluesmobile...
    Does this remind anyone else of the in-mall car dealership from the 1980 Blues Brothers film?

    I actually took my RAV4 there last week for service.
    It’s really damn nice to walk around the mall while it’s getting done. I actually had lunch in the food court and did a little shopping that I needed.

    When Zellers closed in one of the malls in my city (Swift Current), it got demolished and a freestanding Walmart was built on the site. When the existing Walmart moved from the other mall, the space became a Liquidation World, Dollarama and Peavey Mart. Also, when Target closed at Medicine Hat Mall, it became a second showroom for a VW dealership before it got renovated. It is very hard to fill anchor tenants, so you do have to be creative with them.

    It’s been a slippery slope down for this poor mall since the 80’s! High five for Toyota setting up shop though! Smart idea!

    I'm sure WEM approached more than just Toyota for the opportunity and there was probably a bidding war for the space. It would make an interesting story to know for those who have inside details.

    What a big waste of space for the mall. Parking is hard enough to find at WEM, especially in summer and during Christmas, so why have a car dealership take up what used to be a large parking lot near Phase 1? 🤦🏻‍♂️

    This is a big gamble for Toyota, but especially the mall. We'll see how it goes though. I see this lasting maybe 3 years at best, but who knows?

    • @OMGWTFLOLSMH
      @OMGWTFLOLSMH 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems like a no brainer to me. If I owned a Toyota (which I probably never will) under warranty, why not have it serviced here instead of sitting in some crummy waiting room drinking bad coffee at another dealership. I wouldn't be surprised to see other car brands want to set up shop in WEM.

  • @STGGamings
    @STGGamings 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    WEM ain't the same. It's no fun anymore. Which breaks my heart. Also who the hell cares about this shop opening up. no one can afford a car this time in age. i give em 2 years. Good coverage BEM!

      @cpt.dr.hawkeye1740 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree 100%. This business model just seems unsustainable and impractical from a consumer point of view. I can't see them having enough demand to justify the size of this facility.

    • @DanielVanderwel
      @DanielVanderwel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cpt.dr.hawkeye1740 Keep in mind that they are not only servicing Toyata vehicles, they will service all makes. There will be a large demand for after hours servicing with the amenities of the entire mall.
