In this lesson we will learn Network architecture in 2G and 3G networks.
First, let's take a look, on network architecture, in 2G.
in 2G, The UE connects to the 2G site. The name of the 2G site is the BTS.
Then the BTS connects to the BSC.
The BSC works as the controller for the BTSs.
The BSC connects to the SGSN.
in 3G the UE connects to the 3G site. the name of the 3G site is the Node B.
The Node B connects to the RNC.
The RNC works as the controller for the Node Bs.
The SGSN is the entry point for the core network.
The SGSN authenticates the UE and tracks its location.
Then the SGSN connects to the HLR and the GGSN.
The HLR is a database that stores subscription data for all users.
while The GGSN connects the core network to the PDN.
The PDN is the network the UE would like to connect to If it is the internet, or any other network.
    BSC, Base Station Controller.
    RNC, Radio Network Controller.
    SGSN, Serving GPRS Support Node.
    GGSN, Gateway GPRS Support Node.
    HLR, Home Location Register.
    PDN, Public Data Network.
