- Beinn Chabhair is renowned for being a long boggy slog, however on a good day it can be just as good as any other Munro in the area. With a rocky ridge line to navigate at the end of the ascent it gives commanding views over it's better known neighbours.

Well done Alistair. Did it many years ago and couldn’t remember any of it apart from the bog!! You were clearly lucky to have it so dry. Might do it again one day. Thanks for sharing.
The first time I hiked it the bog was very wet, but I feel that once you’re above it the mountain is great. On this occasion it was a glorious midweek day when there wasn’t another soul to be seen.
Looks like one of those Munros that is best walked when the weather is good like you had.
It is on my list when I go to Crianlarich in September.

I would agree with you on that one. Can also do it in cold conditions when its frozen over, although there still tends to be some mud either way. Thanks for watching.
My 6th munro this was and I genuinely loved it, however the weather was pretty amazing which i’m sure helped my opinion on it!
Me and my mate stopped on the way back down and put a couple cans of Asahi each in the the stream at the waterfall which is a perfect wee bit! 🙌 Kim had her cocktails, they all went down a treat after our lunch as you’ll imagine. Also nearly lost Kim in one of the bog which was also a good laugh 😂
When it’s been raining it can be very, very boggy unfortunately however we both seem to have avoided those days! Sounds like you had a great time 😁

I think I felt that way the first time when I was crossing the boggy section and even once I got onto the ridge, but this time it felt so much better, probably due to having a view!
Haha.....nail on the head. absolutely hate this one too. Especially on a scortching hungover Sunday many years ago. That and Beinn Sgulaird. Horrific. ATB

Maybe different doing it on a good day however i done it few months ago and it was brutal........really boggy and conditions near top poor. Hate to admit it but i did not enjoy one bit of it apart from the view. Only Munro i have not enjoyed so well done!!
I’ve seen a lot of people with similar stories of Beinn Chabhair, vowing never to go back. I really enjoyed the windy path amongst the crags near the top, but I can understand the hate for the bog.
The munro itself is a good climb its the 45 minute trudge through marsh and bog just to get to the mountain that i hated ,take wellies and change at the mountain or your going to be soaked ,and that was in good weather
My previous attempt was much wetter but on this occasion it had been decently warm for a few days, which made it very dry and much more enjoyable
i was only really tempted to do this one by the prospect of a pint at the drovers inn at the end but seems if you time it right its a good day out on its own.
A wee pint at the Drovers would be ideal after this one. It’s not the longest hike and given the plentiful parking you don’t really need to get there first thing in the morning either.
@@HighlandHikers I've been told that parking is free if you have a drink in the Drovers.
Is that right?
They advertise parking as £5 which can be redeemed against food and drink inside. The campsite was cheaper though.
The correct pronounciation is "Beinn Cha-bog".

Thanks Steve, couldn’t have asked for better conditions for this notoriously boggy hike. I think the Drovers started charging after Covid as hikers were taking up a lot of their car park.
Top tip that I did when I tackled this one - trace back the land rover track that you cross after the worst of the bogs to it's starting point on the A82. There is parking space for 2 cars at the gate so come early. Most ppl don't know about this. Then walk up the track till that intersection point. When I did it last year (not even a dry spell) the only slight bog I found was immediately after the point you go off the land rover track for about 20 meters or so, so by following this route you make this a slightly longer but far less boggy route!
I think it just depends on the weather really as it wasn’t really boggy at all when I tackled it. Would you miss out the walk by the waterfall by going that way?
If you fancy doing Chabhair a 3rd time, an alternative descent from the bealach is to drop down to the glen to the north. There is a good landrover track ( no bog) that takes you out to the WHW. Turn left and head back to the farm/ Drovers pub. A bit longer but much easier going. The drop down is quite steep so maybe not one for the snow/ice.
Certainly an alternative option for those who hate the normal ascent. Will consider it in future, thanks Bob

We Tried and failed miserably.
There was So much bog that friends child went down to knee in the bog !!
Decide not to tackle it that day and backed off.

I can imagine it wouldn’t be a pleasant experience in wet conditions, but when it’s sunny it was a very enjoyable hike.
Great video , thanks for letting me see the view from the summit. Weather wasn’t as nice when I done it although I really enjoyed the walk. I think it’s unfairly maligned.
The view from up there is great. I never saw it either on my first climb so I was more than happy with the result. The wet conditions across the middle section really put people off I think.
One of my first munros as a child. Since taking it back up last year I really need to do this one again but as others have said best kept for a consistent dry spell to avoid too much bogs! Pleasure as always watching the channel. Cheers
