Dig,dig,dig and more digging. He keeps zoning and going underground ,and he moves in the annoying piscine wyvern movement. So, it’s a chore to hit him. He also has the most random paralysis attack.
Alternate title: Josh not knowing that the desert map lets you fast travel to the zones via secret shortcuts by just going to where the squiggly lines are.
On my first cephadrome hunt in GU the cephadrome went to basically the opposite side of the map, waited for me to run all the way there, then went right back the second I entered the zone. It the continued to do this six more times until the time ran out. I failed the quest without fainting once and spent more time running than actually fighting.
Back then it pretty much was a walking sadic tutorial created to say "hey hunter, items are useful, use them, don't be greedy; use sonic bombs or suffer". 4th gen made it more aggressive and less time consuming, Frontier made its HC version a legit good fight and probably the best pack-leader in the series. By the way its armors designs and biology are pretty cool and underrated, especially for a Gen1 Drome.
@@therosrex5488 Pounding in the general area of a Cephalos/drome with the hammer as it swims by fishes it out of the sand like a sonic bomb if you hit it/hit close enough. Other attacks do it too but require more accuracy, like the upswing from Great Sword if you can hit the fin. Sonic bombs are completely unnecessary and are better saved for Plesioth.

Playing this reminds me of games like Street Fighter 1 or Tenkaichi Budokai 1; where I ask myself. . . how did we get a sequels to these games? I'm glad both series did get those sequels; but going back really makes me miss the days of publishers and devs being confidant in their ability to make a good concept work the 2nd go around.

its not that bad tbh once you get used to it there's always a trick to it and rage isn't using the optimal greatsword combo for mh1 which was rising slash and wide slash unless unsheathing even the liver of legend is easy if you get small barrel bombs and time them so that they hit the cephalos and due to their damage they jump out almost instantly and he's from what I'm seeing not getting honey for mega potions so its kind of harder for him and also in the cephadrome battle he should have just gotten more cool drinks so that part was also under preparation but even with my knowledge of this game i got no damn idea how or why there's the whole felyne military like wtf
The beauty of MH1 was that its a game that always punishes the unprepared, the later quests were 20% collecting resources before quest 10% planning what items to take for quest 10% collecting resources during quest to replenish whats used up and then 60% hunting. This was far more challenging then expected but also was far more satifying when completing a quest.
@@modageddon2742 Yeah the further back the games go the worse and more frustrating the small monster aggro is. The moment anything slightly aggressive sees you, you're now the target. And the cats? Aggro on *you* if a *monster* hits them. So the Cephadrome clipped one of them with its attacks, which turned all the Felyne AND Melynx on him.
There's a lot of inspiration to be taken for piscine wyverns, given how diverse and bizarre fish species can be. 'Course, we wouldn't to take away from the next obscenely-powerful environment-altering only-thought-to-be-myth elder dragon, would we?
I'd love for the next new elder dragon to be based on some kind of deep sea creature, would make for a really cool armour set Edit: not something like namielle, something far less elegant and more nightmare-inducing
I remember this fight. Act as tho each zone has 4 corners cause the cephadrome/los will go in a square formation always stopping at 1 of 4 corners. they will always stop after 3 corners and when they stop you can just smack em cause you know exactly where it will be lol
Not even for the hipcheck. There's times in MH1 where Plessie would just decide that...well, he's not GONNA be going on land, no matter how much you wait or bait out attacks. And Sonic bombs? Oh you silly goose, those lose their effectiveness after the first one, so you're no longer even guaranteed that hitting it with one will get it on land after the first time. You can burn through an entire stock of Sonic Bombs and only have managed to get the thing to come on land 2-4 times and now you just gotta wait and pray the AI will give you the mercy of letting you fight it. Even fishing it out with frogs can be a pain depending on the map, lotta times they can spot you and go into combat mode instead of focusing on the frog if they're not far away enough. You can fish him out in the Desert cave just fine but have fun trying to do that in the jungle river. And if yer talking about gunning it? Enjoy watching the corpse floating in the water and no carves.

Small Cat Army is a mechanic that needs to return in modern Monster Hunter After you kill a Felyne or Melynx, roll for a chance of Small Cat Army to spawn a la Cucco Army Legend of Zelda Style Each consecutive kill in a short time limit rolls additonal times for Small Cat Armt to spawn until one does
cephadrome and cephalos always goes 360' in the desert, it always stop at 270'. so when it's running away, just go to opposite direction. don't chasing it. for stamina, get some raw meat and grab a griller on the supplies box. find a wetstone deposit. and some classic potion crafting.

Funniest thing about this to me is that I've been recently playing MH1 for the first time. I started with Tri. And since I actually prepared well for Cephadrome by crafting a bunch of Sonic Bombs beforehand, I actually had a pretty easy time with him. I'm also using Dual Blades which meant I could just demon dance between it's legs and all it ever did was spin around harmlessly while I killed it. So me having such an easy time compared to the veteran pro who started with MH1 is just funny. Now Plesioth on the other hand? Boy oh boy can't wait for that episode.
I think this is probably the best episode thus far. Cephadrome made his mark and they will haunt Josh and Cotton to their end of their days. God help them with Plesioth.
You know, seeing this reignites my interest in a MH game where this is basically the level of difficulty you have all the time. Except i wouldn't want you to be a hunter in that game, but a scout for the guild. Ive had the idea since the MH:W original sneak peak, where you had some feeling of dread as the Anjanath stalked around
Yeah I also have a similar idea but one would be MH spin-off game in VR with the jaw-dropping graphical fidelity of Half Life; Alyx. The player would be given the role of a someone similar to the Handler and will have to investigate, locate monsters and send the info to the guild to help the hunters. It would pretty much be a full stealth VR horror game where you would have to hide from all the monsters and since there is no combat, the inherent present problem of VR right now with mobility and motion-sickness won't be a hinderence.
This,...this brings painful memories that are usually covered up by a nice layer of nostalgia back to the surface of my mind. But comparing this to freedom unite...now that already seemed like a giant step forward actually. Really, back then, small monsters actually were a threat because they kept ganging up on you while the large monster was around...that isn't the case anymore. Actually though, this is still a nice trip for nostalgia and I hope you'll do the same for Freedom Unite, the game were many people me included startet their hunting careers

This feels like a mix of my experience fighting congalala in freedom unite And barioth in iceborne Everything going against me with congalala (bullfango mostly), running out of items And not being able to hit barioth AT ALL and almost timing out

Im pretty sure this is exactly the same game as Monster hunter freedom on psp, which means you can still bring items on quests with you from your home (more potions) and a feline kitchen/farm to gather supplies and food...
If the insect monsters have the most variety in the mechanics then the fish monsters are the polar opposites. I mean i don't mind lavasioth but the mechanics of each fish wyvern are just so similar that it gets boring after a while. Their fight's just become dull because you know if one fish monster fought one way, this one is gonna be the same but with a different element. It's essentially just like fighting the raptor dromes. Velocidrome has no element but the rest of the raptors are just him with a different name, design, and element, no changes to the attack patterns what so ever
Back during the online days of mh1 in 2004. We had a diablos get killed by a flying cephalos, hit diablos right in the face as we were running towards it.

Cephadrome, good to see him in less polygons than I remember in MHGU, though, it’s nice to see all of this MH1 content, I haven’t had the privilege to play it but it looks like a clunky barrel of fun. Also, it’s “Pot” of Greed guys, come on. Lovin’ the videos though, thanks for providing all the entertainment whilst on and off the hunt, keep it up you guys!

Im pretty sure this is exactly the same game as Monster hunter freedom on psp, which means you can still bring items on quests with you from your home (more potions) and a feline kitchen/farm to gather supplies and food...
Nope original MH had no farm for producing items, everything you had was either from the shop or self sourced in hunts.
Pretty much what the above comment said. MH1 wasnt just grindy, it was tediously grindy
If the insect monsters have the most variety in the mechanics then the fish monsters are the polar opposites. I mean i don't mind lavasioth but the mechanics of each fish wyvern are just so similar that it gets boring after a while. Their fight's just become dull because you know if one fish monster fought one way, this one is gonna be the same but with a different element. It's essentially just like fighting the raptor dromes. Velocidrome has no element but the rest of the raptors are just him with a different name, design, and element, no changes to the attack patterns what so ever

I remember this hunt on mhf1. It was a pain. Hunting him is definitely improved in 4u.
