For me, the amazing moment when this game first opened up was taking the boat from Butcherblock to Freeport. It felt like such an incredible journey across an impossibly vast world. I immediately knew this game was something really special.
It's awesome hearing others share their memories of the early days in EQ. People back then took this game serious. You had the greatest community with people being extremely helpful. You didn't have many griefers like you have in today's games. There will never be another gaming experience again like the one that EQ gave.
Dude. The first time I found orc hill at night between Kelethin and Crushbone. The first time getting run down and throttled by Dorn. The superstition in places like Befallen of what mobs to kill when at particular types of day to make others spawn. Everyone organically agreeing to gather in the EC tunnel on Sundays for a bazaar and eventually turning into a daily market. A guy being given the title "the Bowyer" for holding a weekly competition to land the last arrow shot on a hill giant and awarding the best crafted bow to the winner. There's just so many great memories. So much community killed by instanced content and auction houses.
I loved EQ! So many memories! I was awestruck by the snowy weather and day/night cycle first time I logged in after rolling my first character, a barb shaman. I then rolled a human monk which became my beloved main (Tsung Lao on Terris Thule) I loved grouping and being the puller on my monk, I was great at feign pulling. The memories just flood in doing everything from camping the ledge in Blackburrow to The Hole to raiding the planes with the guild (Reavers of Fate) and helping each other get our epics. I still have a few screenshots from then including a few of my wife and I on our iksars chatting with a developer

The first time clearing down in Befallen was awesome, hearing about crushbone and making the trip (surviving the runner in Butcherblock Mountains). When I first laid eyes on Vox was something I will always remember, and my first Plane of Fear raid was insane. Fear will probably be the strongest memory because you sit outside the gate and the RL is shouting (we didn't have raid channels back then, or vent/discord). All day at college we talked up having to hit sense heading and run in the right direction, and the importance of getting tight on the screen. We had a tenticle terror in camp;it felt like the storming of the beach scene in saving private ryan. Adrenaline off the chart, buffs are flying off ya, needing to watch shout and OOC for tank calls. Even now I feel that excitement (progression servers are way easier). Just in general figuring out the hard camps and the sense of accomplishment that I had everytime we did something right, as a raid unit downing new bosses, as a group killing harder named, or soloing group content.
