We can get floating heaters with a guard on it, the disadvantage is they only work good for a few seasons. The other option I have is heated buckets that I plug in. Those work really well but for a big one they can be pretty pricey but I've had mine for over 6 years now. I have a heated dog dish for our dog and cats. Congratulations to your son on his engagement!
Best wishes to your son and his fiancee. If you timer allows I suggest running one hour in 3 or 4. It will keep the ice off without overheating the water. Wonder if the pigs have moved their toilet to somewhere closer to the warm bedding in the cold weather?
OH Congratulations to your son & his fiancée - wow now that is a ring !!. Todd loved the new pig waterer I hope it works well- your pigs are just gorgeous , I Love pork it is my favorite meat as it is so good for you. Cheers Denise- Australia
They make a thermostatic control you plug in line with the power cord. You plug in the module and drop the temp sensor into the water and set the temp range you want the water at. Saves energy too. Inkbird makes one available on amazon.
It took several months for my friend to get her horse to drink out of the tank again after it was shorting out. That’s the problem we usually have with water heaters and what I would still watch with yours. I’m not familiar with that type but my dad has said when they’re too hot it’s not good. Maybe yours is meant for more gallons of water though? Good luck! Smart pigs!
You aren't getting that cold at night (at least from my looking at your forecast). How about an open trough, and put a submerged circulation pump in it (like what you would put into a fountain). We use that in Northern NV were we get really cold and it keeps things open unless we get into the low teens, and then we just go out and break ice each morning.
If the pigs get dehydrated you may want to make them bran mashes with some goodies ( carrots or something nice ) with electrolytes. The electrolytes encourage them to drink more too. Also don’t be surprised if they take a bath in that tub...😆.
Your heater may have a small short . Please check the water when it is on . Pigs can detect the smallest amount of electricity. I have had them fail . I could put my had in the water with it on but my horses where getting shocked. I don’t use any Electric heaters anymore.
Nice....lucky pigs.....man they are so calm compared to the pigs we have raised....no pigs for us next year...freezers are so full! But I need to figure out how to get pigs like yours! :)
You guys are so nice to your pigs! How do you butcher them lol. I refuse to treat our pigs or cows like pets because I'm worried about not wanting to slaughter them.. chickens I have no issues with lol.
Are you worried about the pigs chewing the extension cord? I am worried my pigs would but we really need to figure out a solution for their water freezing
Todd is so loving with those cute piggies! Seeing him down on the ground doing belly rubs melted my heart. Those pigs are spoiled! :)
Boy that stinks that happened , good they are spoiled by Dad !
Congratulations on the expansion of the family

Tricky situation. I'm not surprised, but it's an odd problem to have! It's always something.

That's what I was thinking, that they'd want to lay in it. Y'know, thanks for the hot tub :)
Question: why dont livestock water heaters have a thermostat? Or if they do... are they stupid expensive or fail frequently. Just asking. Thanks
Awe congratulations!!!! Beautiful Ring
It really is! Such exciting news for us
Congratulations!
Congratulations to you all..

Would the pigs try to climb in?? Yiks
In the summer when its hot out, for sure they would!
@@1870s ❤I love watching you guys!
If you don't clean the poop up and it gets too be too much in one area they will go some place else.
I’m worried about the pigs touching the heating unit can you put weights in it so it doesn’t float ?
It definitely sinks on it's own. The heater is heavy enough to weigh down the wood without issue.
I just love those pigs
Goat complaints🙄😉🤣
If a spot gets to full of poop they will move there bathroom congratulations to the both of them
Are you worried about the pigs chewing the extension cord? I am worried my pigs would but we really need to figure out a solution for their water freezing
Oh I put warm water with my pig food it helps them to digest food better
