I wish Ah Leung were open, it would have been the exact place in Kolkata, serving the best kind of chinese breakfast, Foodka and Mir Da wanted to have in Tangra. Kimling is great though... Ah Leung is temporarily closed for dining till chinese new year at least..But definitely worth a visit for any chinese food lovers of kolkata.
Yeh it's now open but at a different location. Beside tangra wok.

2. Makes me a better person

Loved this Incredible India series by Foodka about Calcutta to Kolkata.... all the 3 episodes!! We Calcuttans( the younger ones are Kolkatans.... ) love our food, be it maach bhaat, dumplings or biriyani! They say whenever two Bengalis meet, within 10 mins they are discussing food.... this I have seen happening even when they are complete strangers!! Food is a true blue Bengali's religion, his karma and his Moksha!!
So, lovvvvvvv you Foodka and his adorable Bhaipo for taking us thru these memorable journeys on so many varieties and origins of Kolkata food🙂

Thank you so much Mir Da and Indrajit Da for showing authentic Calcutta style Chinese breakfast. As I had once told in one of my previous comments, I live near the Chinatown in Tangra and it is an important part of my own sense of belonging and identity. All power to you Monica Liu, you have been a trailblazer too. And also, a shout out to the remaining Chinese who are the sons and daughters of pioneering and enterprising Chinese settlers who called this city home and have given us such a lovely slice of their unique culture.
One person is dictionary of food and another person who knows how to eat that food with swag. Love you both sir. From birnch to dumplings.
Introductory animation is awesome...and the concept of these episodes and representations of Foodka and Mir...I have no words to say...I was just waiting for this episode...

কিছু মানুষের হাভাতে পনার জন্য আজকে একটা সরকারি রেস্তোরাঁ তে ঢুকতে ২০ টাকা লাগছে, তাও আবার ৯০ মিনিটের জন্য। গেলাম না ভাই 😊 আমার খাওয়া শেষ না হলে কেউ যদি আমায় তুলে দেয় সেরকম জায়গায় না যাওয়াই ভালো।
তার থেকে কলেজ স্ট্রিট গিয়ে রবীন্দ্রনাথের ছবির তলায় বসে ঘন্টার পর ঘন্টা গল্পই ভালো। কি বলেন?

There is a change in Kim Li timings, it's open from evening 6pm. Also the Google Map's link given in description is of Kim Ling (NOT Kim Li).
I followed this video and went there, found Kim Lee to be closed. Entered Kim Ling, they said that they do not serve Pork !
I came back home as most of the restaurant were closed at afternoon. Guys, don't know why, but tangra seems to have lost it's glory. We used to visit this place for Pork, but now a days I see there is a huge scarcity of this meat here. I don't know why these restaurants has reduced the serving quantity of pork even though it's widely available in the market.
If the restaurant people of Tangra is reading this then pls feel free to reply.

Great episode! But Monica Liu's generalizations about Chinese food would only apply to Cantonese or Teochew food which is a very small part of Chinese food traditions. Sichuanese and Hunan foods are hotter than any indian cuisine, and China's favorite condiment is Lao Gan Ma which is chilli flakes in oil. Maybe you should consider doing a Foodka episode in China to open up an entirely new world of Chinese food to Bengali viewers :).

Dear foodka and Mir bhai....selam ...one thing Indian Coffee house in college street is an icon with nostalgic memories of college days ,the walls are filled with graphite of posters,the serir tolai berir dokan,having coffee/ infusion and onion pakoda as our budget permitted so.The new coffee house do serve south indian filter coffee ????? or the instant version.Definetly anything new is welcome but the commercialization of booking a table with time limits are something opposite to bengali adda culture.Hope the place may match the foods and culture of college street coffee house and be a place of great culture evolution and great thoughts......

Sad to say this but the only issue about the Coffee house New Town is the Coffee. I wish the quality of both the hot and cold coffee could be little better rather than just capitaziling the Nostalgia of Old Coffee house. Although the coffee in the old one is awful. However this is just my opinion. No offense intended.
In Coffey House the issue has always been the Coffey actually. Even in the original one, the Coffey isn't any good. It's just the legacy of that place that has taken its sweet time to build itself up.
Felling so proud to be an Bangali of W.B .. We the new generation are also ready for taking care of modern Kolkata🤗.. a great step of converting Calcutta to Kolkata❤️
