Holy shit..... all these years I've honestly just sang the lyrics to the song without paying attention. Great reaction - i have a new found appreciation for this song!
Song is disgustingly underrated. That chorus is nasty. Load is all about emotion. Its in their top 4 albums, IMO. James had insane lyrics throughout the entire album
“Carpe Diem Baby” off Reload is one of my absolute favorite Metallica songs of all time. I used to play it for a girlfriend when she was overwhelmed trying to get into medical school. I know you’ll get to Reload eventually, so I’m patiently waiting like Eminem down here. 🤘🖤
Personally, I feel like DEVIL'S DANCE off of RELOAD is very underrated, especially because I loved hearing Kirk go off the rails on that solo. One of my favorite Kirk Hammett performances.
As a Christian, I love this song cause the idea of that his mother believed is absurd. Do I believe God still heals and performs miracles, yes! Do I believe he gave us a brain and expects us to use it and seek help from those he has given the talents to, to make us better, yes!
i asked for this one on and off for about a year and a half or so! so glad you liked it! i just saw it today and this is one of my favorite songs ever i'm the type to sing this as im walking to the store LOL. cheers Lilly!
This is one of the few Metallica songs that I haven't listened to in years. I may have gone a long time before hearing it again if not for your reaction here. Thanks for that! It's much better than I remembered, and you are correct in saying that it's underated.
Pretty sure this song is about James' penchant for drinking Coors Light. You know the "silver bullet" "He thinks the answer is cold and in his hand He takes his medicine The man takes another bullet Yeah, he's been fooled again"
its one of those songs. Metallica just has so many great songs that its hard to remember them unless you are playing nothing but Metallica on random on your music app while driving or something. I've been replaying each album in its entirety in order lately and there is a ton of songs that I remember liking but forgot existed.
This is a great song and heavily underrated for sure. And I can just feel James´ feelings when he wrote this, using his mother and her religion as inspiration. I love James lyrics, always so deep and well written.
Great stuff LJ. I love watching young people giving these albums a fair shake. It has become so popular with long time Metallica fans like me to crap all over the Load years. Like it's fashionable. I think these albums are an homage to Sabbath and are great entries in the Metallica catalog. The only reason Metallica are still relevant is because they take chances with their sound.
Metallica album reload fuel the memory remains the unforgiven 2 metallica album garage inc 1 turn the page 2 mercyful fate 3 so what 4 Am I Evil 5 whiskey in the jar 6 astronomy 7 blitzkrieg
I agree the song is underrated. Well the sing is not underrated for die hard fans but most casual fans may not know it because it gets little to no radio play. But AM I Evil in my opinion is one of their best songs and it is a cover song. At one point in their career they even referred to themselves as the world's biggest cover band because some of their best live songs are cover songs pre-black album.
Fantastic and insightful reaction! I'd say "The Unnamed Feeling" off St. Anger is underrated. The whole album gets a bad rap. Unnamed Feeling did get enough love to get a music video, but they also chopped the hell out of the song cutting almost 2 minutes off it. It's another emotional Hetfield masterpiece.
I hated this era of Metallica and this song was one of the reasons when I first heard the album almost 28 years ago. I barley heard it since. I forced myself to hear it here and I... sort of... kinda'... actually like it now. Music taste are difficult to explain and understand. A few songs on their last few albums have returned to Thrash so I can see The Cure differently now that I've seen the totality of their entire career up to this point. I appreciate a band diversifying their sound as long as they can return to their roots from time to time.
I don't think the reason this song hasn't been played live is because its lyrics might be controversial. Metallica has many songs with controversial lyrics and that's never stopped them. There is a small handful of songs that haven't been played live, and I think it's usually a combination of a song being less liked by fans and the band not wanting to play it. Only fairly recently did they finally play Fixxxer live, and I think that was due to a huge growing support by the fans. So if fans demand it enough it will eventually get played.
Load and Reload are pre-rehab James. He's recognizing his issues. The "bullet" in "The Cure" is Coors Light. His beer of choice in the 90s. He's recognizing his his alcolism but can't stop. "Sweet Amber" on Reload also addresses his alcoholism.
@TokusatsuGamingfan sorry, it is. Sorry you don't want to believe it. "He thinks the answer's cold and in his hand. He takes his medicine. The man takes another bullet, yeah he's been fooled again." I've met James backstage 3 times and talked. You??
I dunno if you’d get too many god-fearing pearl-clutchers at Metallica concerts who would be offended by such a song. I mean, they have played “So What” and “Last Caress” at countless concerts…
That was in the past though. There's absolutely no way in hell that Metallica would play those songs live considering that people of all ages go to their shows now.
I would like you to react to a rap group here in Brazil called Racionais MC’s, I recommend you listen to “A vida é desafio” (Life is a challenge). Thank you for your attention!
They don’t play this song because only like 12 people in the crowd would know it. This is hella B side for Metallica even for devoted fans like me. I loved this album from front to back but I was 13 when this album dropped and I was gonna dump over anything Metallica put out. Older fans refused to listen to this. They missed out for sure

The Cure is alright. I can't help but noticed you've skipped the first album. Kill 'em All. The instruments are more raw than the other albums, as they did not had much time to master it, it sounds more or less like the demo.

For first Metallica listens best to stick with offical Metallica channel. Most of the time they will be just audio. Metallica didnt have official videos for every song until Hardwired. And only have official lyric videos for 72 Seasons. Load was the first album Metallica released that didnt have lyrics in the jacket. They said they wanted people to develope their own ideas about the songs. I consider underrated songs to be ones they never or rarely play. For me on load I think its Thorn Within.
Btw if you want to hear any other Metallica songs you basically listened to all of them in any one song you hear. All the same song at different BPM basically. Riffs and everything lol.

Every single time that Metallica has gone in a different direction or did something different, people have done nothing but bitch and complain and moan and whatnot. Hell, a lot of people were expecting Metallica to go back to just being straight thrash with their most recent album "72 Seasons" which is just so delusional as well as ridiculous. A good majority of Metallica's fanbase didn't want Metallica to go away from what they had established with their thrash metal material, and are still giving them shit for going away from that. Thankfully, people have warmed up and have become more open minded when it comes to the Load era of Metallica as well as "St. Anger". I just wish that a lot more of the Metallica fanbase would quit being so damn harsh with that album.
