Every day at 18:00 life on the street stops for a minute to honor the Thai national anthem. It's a bizarre sight in the otherwise noisy and bustling Sunday market in Chiang Mai.
i come from hong kong . love thailand so much, thai people is so nice, thailand is so beautiful, i visit thailand every year. God bless Thailand and long live Thai King
I love it how they stop for their national anthem. The people of Thailand are so respectful to their King and their anthem! and i also love how the school kids also stops no matter what and they also sing along. We need to add this to every country! Long live Thailand and all of those people!
I believe it's every day at 8:00am and 8:00pm (at least it was where I was working) - every single student singing it used to make the Thai teachers so proud, I even made it my mission to learn it myself to be respectful, miss Thailand so so much
everytime i see this, i always wanna cry. why? they have a high level of respect to their country. i hope that can happen in my country. love from indonesia
The flag and the anthem are represented the country if you respect your flag and your anthem that mean you respect your country and you respect the people who fight and died for your country.. We, Thai people stand up when we heard the Thai anthem rise to respect and thankful for the people who had fought and died for our country....

Thank you to all international friends in this comment sections. I am truly grateful to your kindest words. For some it may look "rubbish" to you. But to us, Thai, it's a part of our "spirit". It's much more than tradition, culture, rules and orders. It's a THAI SPIRIT.
Other South East Asian nations should do the same as Thailand! Damn, want to go visit Thailand and bring a piece of paper with the anthem lyrics on it. ;)
คิดถึงการยื่นตรงเคารพธงชาติไทย ประเทศไทย บรรพบุรุษไทย.🇹🇭love Thail people , Thai nation anthem song.we respect peaceful, independence, our great grandparents who protested the country for our next generations.

That's wrong. You miss understood. Noone be jailed if they not stand up. We said in Thai "Please stand up to respect the nation flag and naton anthem! " Before nation anthem will play.
No one go to jails because you don’t want to stand up. It’s up to you. Even Thais people don’t have to do it, but most of us do it for respect to those who Sacrifice theirs blood for our nation.
Thailand underwent a minor nation building period during the reign of Rama IV with the threat of Western Imperialism already showing up in many parts of Asia. Nationalism was seen as a way to unite the people as one against a common external threat, and history proves that it has worked for Thailand. The tradition of 08.00 and 18.00 national anthem was introduce during the early military regimes that wanted to strengthen a sense of nationhood and national identity. Illegal immigrants are sometimes asked to sing the anthem...those who get it right are less likely to be reported because it proves that they have assimilated... or so the story goes.
Cinemas, broadcasting corporations and theatres used to play our national anthem at the end of the performance or the day's broadcasting in England. At one time, not standing was considered very bad form over here.
+obaisi7272 It does not matter indoor or outdoor. As it is not mandatory that every public places need to play the national anthem.Mostly are from government organizations. The Platinum shopping mall is a private business , thats the reason you have not heard it ^^
Odan Tantai yeah..that's the main reason why do Thai ppl always do it from heart. Bcoz we respect and thankful to our ancestor and all the kings that sacrificed themselves for the country ...especially King RamaIV. Even thought the world had no wars but he never stop working for making his ppl life better. We may be not rich country or still call as a 3rd world country...but well...how to say....even if we dont have high technology (compare to JP/USA/EU) but for sure we never starve for food. He taught us a lot to live in life balance. :) Thailand have a gift for having a good land which rich of fruit and vegetable....the king taught us how could we pull the highest advantage of them and live with them instead of just only one time harvest.
@logerbad19 It is just customary ;D, but most people would do that anyway, you can walk freely there is no one to stop you but I bet you will totally stand out! lol, Peer Pressure it is hahaha
This how everyone should feel about there country n anthem... I love how the Thai People stop and sing tooo. You would catch anyone in Australia stopping to pay tribute let alone half Australians dont even knw the anthem.
Thailand combines the blood of Thai tea. Being a Pracharath of Thailand in every part With all Thais symbolizing love and unity, this Thai love peace, but not cowardly at war. Independence will not allow anyone to oppress and surrender every drop of blood to become a nation that thrives on the nation of Thailand.🇹🇭
@logerbad19 You could be jailed (disrespecting the nation and king), but its almost never enforced unless you intentionally shout or continue to talk to someone or something. Most Thai people do respect their nation, so that doesn't happen often. Thailand also proposed new laws requiring people to stand in cinemas, and a new one in 2007 for cars to stop (Google 'Thai anthem car law').
Same in the Philippines, It's hard to see Philippine flag from the streets, houses and buildings except independence day and no national anthem played in public places like markets, malls except in Elementary & High school @ 8 am. You can see thai flag everywhere in public places but not here. :(
