  • If you don't face your problems don't expect to grow and become a better person. You will always be weaker than your problems and never feel truly confident in your abilities as a human. You either grind hard to defeat your weaknesses or you stay a weak loser.

im a doctor too and imo fatshaming is not ok, i still advise my patients to strive for a healthy weight, especially when they are diabetic or hypertensive, but at the same time, it is not our place to “shame” someone for their weight out of the blue. that’s wrong too. you don’t know what’s the back story, you might as well shut up about it. obv everyone knows it who’s fat and who isn’t, but i have seen people on SM label sliiiightly overweight or normal weight people as “fat”, which is wrong too. it is still advisable to maintain a weight that helps you stay healthy, but going out of your way and shaming someone for it is weird asf. There are a lot of people commenting about the body and weight of people in the videos on yt and ig, and the video has got nothing to do with appearance. that’s shallow asf too. both sides are stupid.

The point, and a very valid point, of the love at any size movement is that you should be happy with yourself regardless of your size. Be happy because you’re alive and be happy to live another day. What it got wrong is, just because you are at a specific place in life doesn’t mean you have to stay there. Be happy with your body, but also know you can always be better and improve yourself. But that doesn’t mean hate yourself until you get better. That leads to body dysmorphia even when you lose the weight and also leads to using drugs to get a better body. Be happy with the body you have. We are born with a certain body. Some people are born with bigger bones. Others without legs. Others blind. Be happy with what you have and learn to live a happy life in your skin. At the same time, know we can all improve ourselves everyday.

One of the few reasonable and nuanced takes under this video. Hating oneself might be a way for some to successfully lose weight and build muscle, but that kind of perpective tends to come at the high cost of a broken mind.

Just as it should be okay for people to be happy with their current body type, it should be okay for people to want to change. That's on a case by case basis that only we can decide for ourselves. Of course, we can also decide how we treat those with other body types, which should never be in a way intended to make them feel bad about themselves.

Just a friendly reminder that people can be motivated in different ways. Some are motivated by money, praise, being happy you're making progress, hating where you are in life, or something along those lines. The main issue I see with “body positivity” influencers is that they confuse self love with neglect. I have been doing my weight loss journey for about 1 years now. I started at 280lbs and am currently at about 215. I know what it’s like to be fat and how easy it is to tell myself that I love myself while eating fast food. It’s a trap. No you don’t have to hate yourself to improve, but you can’t wait for change to come to you. I love myself and therefore what BETTER for myself. I want to be healthy. I want to feel attractive. I want compliments from others because that PROVES my hard work. It’s a struggle, yes, but that is no excuse to lie down and wallow in self isolation. Love your personality now and work on your body so you can love your looks later.

Thjnk I should rephrase that, it's alright to *want* others to compliment you, but actually *expecting* them too is an issue, because others have their own heights and expectations. In the end you are becoming a closer to the person in your image, tldr don't let others reactions affect you too much.

I hated myself when I was fat and yes, I went to the gym and I got fit, but it was therapy what really helped me 1. To finally see myself, my real self and 2. 100% truth.
You shouldn't "hate yourself" so much you get dragged into despair and giving up, but if you have the mindset of "I can change", "I can do even little steps", then lean hard into "this is enough of myself as I am" and get after it.... do it smart, but do it!
I'm a big guy who has failed a lot; the trick is to keep (re)starting and recognize those incremental improvements. For me starting was giving up multiple cans of soda per day, then multiple cans of diet soda per day, then giving up a carton of donuts in one sitting, then not eating whole pizzas in one sitting, swap in some broccoli or celery, and so on.
See your bad decisions, own them, recognize the damage, make different choices, and don't be delusional.

Back on 2020, I was fat, depressed, and I just kept on crying with no changes, made me eat more and more as a way to feel better, when Face to face finally happened, I made friends, they told me to be proud of myself for who I am and love myself, I then had feelings for this one girl, we talked for months, and she said the same thing. After all those, I'd stumble upon the fitness community. I hated myself after that, and it pushed me through. I lost a lot and I looked better than who I was on 2020, I'm close to being ripped and I'm still natty, I don't even use any supplements or anything. I started ignoring everyone around me and only talked when they have something important to say. Some of my friends, including my crush would come up to me and say "Don't go hard on yourself" or "Take a rest", last time I did that, I was low on life.

The summer between 8th and 9th grade I went on a very strict regime. I went from 200 lbs down to 160 lbs and turned fat into muscle. I felt on top of the world! I was always feeling confident when my shirt came off and I definitely started getting attention from females! Ever since then I have kept myself on shape the best I could.
