There's not a moment I don't wish I could be back in that time period. Even for just a day. Steam will never dies, and it's a shame to me that they haven't been given more recognition.
+Russell Streak If we could only bring back the trains, cars, morals, patriotism, and prices from a better time, while retaining our computers, Nintendo, Cartoon Network, current Pope, etc...
Funny how nostalgia only hits the highlights, and disregards the not-so-great stuff, glossing over the exploitation of those who made the "good life" possible. Electrics and diesel-electrics are way better than steam for motive power. Even China's been chucking their steam, for some time. Time marches on!
I was raised around steamers. Diesels just don't have the personality the steamers did. I can remember 2-10-2s, 2-10-4s and once or twice a day the 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone. Love the sound of the whistles. Air horns just aren't the same.
The music in these videos is from the Valentino Music Library which is a commercial music company that sells music for use in broadcast, film and stage productions. It has been so long since we produced these programs that I don't recall the specific titles of the music we used. Our newer shows have very little music with many more actual sounds used instead. -JH
@kmillard He almost died! LOLTHE ORINGINAL CITY OF MIAMI... IN COLOR...Hey, thanks, I always wondered if they were actual pieces of classical music written as just pieces, or for plays and operas. :)
ohh the streamliners, just not many of them left, and only a few of the really big ones, lucky we have the few big mainliners, like the challenger, the piere marquet, and npk 765, and soon the bigboy class.
I would have loved to have given you a thumbs up for the video sample. I may order Volume 3 I love the UP M-10000 series train. The "Little Zip" is my favorite streamliner.
Milwaukee F7s and As, B&O EAs, UP's M-10001, PRR's Broadway and Skyliner K4s, Dreyfuss Hudsons, T1 Duplexes, the first E3s, IC's Green Diamond, Burlington's Zephyrs, SP's GS Northerns and Cab-Forwards, Santa Fe's PAs and FTs. It was a close call between this and the Classic Pennsy Widescreen.
I can see the appeal on Diesel engines, they look cleaner sound stronger and look more efficient. Steam may have been aging but no one really took the time to innovate on it anymore and it was just Cheaper to move on. A steam engine will do the same job at the same pace, I think people for get hard work is what makes everything work and building things to last is what keeps said things working. Ultimately their could of been use for both because diesels aren’t perfect and weren’t the best solution either because if they were so much better they wouldn’t use just as much or more resources.
In reply to Andrew Stiener, Re PM Pacific type @1:30.... Actually, there are a few more video clips of PM Pacifics and other PM locos out there. I personally have seen 3 videos of PM Pacific types on TH-cam - all found by accident! However, no one is collecting them, until now. Check out my channel. There is a video there of a PM Pacific. And I am sure there is more to be found!
Replace diesel trains with steam steam trains are more better than diesel 😁 don't want to see a screaming train going past to the train track at high speed don't you want to see steam engine big whistle mean

Awesome video footage
Great films, and I love the narration, which has a "period" quality to it !
I saw v.3 when its cinematographer John Plichta showed his films to our model RR club back in the late 70's. It was a jaw-dropping event.
I want this volume, mainly because it starts off with my home state's proud train, The Hiawatha! Too bad they were scrapped:(
Wow! I’ve never seen the streamlined 20th Century Limited in color video before! Thank you!
This narrator is the best! He and the 765 engineer who narrated for Hopewell video are my all time favorite!
THOSE HIAWATHA SHOTS ❤️
Pause right there and you can see a Pere Marquette 4-6-2 Pacific-type steam locomotive at 1:31. I guess it must be its only appearance on film.
HOLY CRAP! I want all five of those volumes!
he will
Say, Herron Rail Video, what classical pieces are played throughout this video?
@kmillard He almost died! LOLTHE ORINGINAL CITY OF MIAMI... IN COLOR...Hey, thanks, I always wondered if they were actual pieces of classical music written as just pieces, or for plays and operas. :)
I believe the N&W 611 also will be joining that list.
