@ football has traditionally been a sport for the normal person/working class. Maybe that is what is changing? I hear a lot of football tourists go to uk for the atmosphere- that atmosphere only comes from loyal fans, not football tourists or piped-in music or shooting merch in to the crowd. Tennis majors - not sure that has been a staple of the normal person? Like Wimbledon, I think the average salary of the spectator would be higher than at a football match?

No loyalty from the clubs. I live in Germany where I pay 190€ for season ticket at Paderborn (liga 2)
Even at Bayern Munich you can get tickets from 15€ a game. It's pure greed...

Fans will need to vote with their feet, but other wealthy kids and older wealthier people will happily replace them unfortunately. Crowds are already quieter and less fanbases in the grounds.
However, revenue from fans means nothing for bigger clubs. Look at the bundesliga. They understand that

You’d have to be mental to pay those ticket prices. In the Man City case for example the club is owned by a petro state. They have all the money in the world. And yet they squeeze fans for every red cent. And they will keep doing it.

I was a regular attender of football matches from 1982 until 2016,was an on-off season ticket holder and attended away matches at 67 of the 92 clubs that made up the four divisions, from Newcastle to Plymouth,Blackpool to Southend. I balked at prices of over £40 for a match ticket, let alone the £70 - £90 mentioned here.

This is nothing new. Slowly been happening for years. Get rid of hooligans slowly, now even noisy fans are a nuisance so phase them out. Make it touristy for richer people, domestic or international, money is money. No soul, no identity, just a business. Loyalty is a commodity and fans don’t seem to understand that yet. Why would they? Welcome to football Inc. Fans are customers, or even products I suppose. I went over to rugby myself. Couldn’t stand football changing into this situation.

The big clubs should be ashamed of this. Ticket sales are one of the smallest components of their revenue. They make far more from shirt sales for example.
Local fans are the heritage of the club. They are multi-generational fans. They are the ones who will be in the stands through good and bad. They are the ones who come up with the songs/anthems, who are the ‘culture’ of the club. They make the ‘brand’.
Liverpool or Arsenal or United are not the behemoths they are now without the everyday supporters who go to each and every game.
They should be rewarded for their loyalty not taxed because they helped make their clubs the giants they are now.

Clubs need to make money, completely nativist to not raise prices so more international fans can enjoy watchig their team play. The clubs are international , local fans are irrelevant for the premier league teams. They have more fans abroad. owner is a foreigner , players are foreign , club is now a foreign floating entity.

@ and that sucks. Like as an American I feel like we get thrown under the bus by European fans bc of American owners.
Honestly I don’t blame them. Like nobody likes sports washing but look at the Manchester clubs. City got mid east owners who gave them a dynasty, a new stadium, and memories to last a lifetime. United got American owners who gave them a mountain of debt, a leaky roof, and Antony.

Don't bother boycotting the matches, the ticket receipts are next to nothing. If you want the Clubs to take notice. Cancel the TV subscription to Sky and TNT etc. If the TV Rights deal collapses the whole house of cards falls down. Fans are squeezed at both ends, but lack the collective understanding of where clubs get their revenue. No one buy a drink, or food at a home game, or a shirt or a scarf or a match day programme, suddenly clubs are losing money per match, cause that is where the profit is made not on the ticket price. Target them in their pockets.

  • @dannycadwallader6503

The premier league doesn’t want local fans. They want football tourism. I’m a black cabbie in London, and most of the people I pick up are from abroad. Spending hundreds in the club shop and buying food and drink inside the ground. Locals buy their food and drink outside the ground .
They know on the smaller games the locals will pick up the spares .

Stopped going to Arsenal a few years back, stopped Sky 2 years ago when it was 90 quid a month. I can afford it but really don’t see how paying over 3 grand a year for me and my daughter is value for money and the 3 grand comes out of my net salary so need to earn 5k to do all these things. Clubs need a bit of a rethink because without fans they may have the best league in the world but for how long? This cannot end well and rather paying average players 5 million a year pay then 3 million and they will still come, buy players for 30 or 49 million instead of buying people like Anthony from Ajax for 80 million. I know easier said then done but the clubs FFP are a joke, just look at Man City. As long as they think they can milk the fans they will just keep spending more and eff the FFP rules. If they continue Clubs are in danger of collapsing under the debt. Anyway I guess something needs to happen

Absolutely criminal. I ordered a Ac Milan jersey and they sent it in a high quality box with their symbol on it and it was sturdy and made of quality material. City do not give a damn about the fans anymore they just want money
