  • Ahead of World Food Day, we’re premiering a new documentary film, Food for the Future (#Food4theFuture). It documents the world’s current food revolution.
    Global agriculture generates as much greenhouse gas as the worldwide transport sector. Sustainable food production is therefore not a luxury but a necessity for our common future.
    How can we best balance the need for nutritious and affordable food and that of protecting the environment?

    It pains my heart to see the condition of farmers around the world. Agriculture is the back bone of India, yet the people practicing it are the most looked down upon. It is the livelihood of many, and it should not be taken away from them just so that big private companies can fill their already stuffed pockets with more money.

      Studies are always based on the methods that are used today. Scientific growing is decades ahead of that, despite the fact that a majority of food in the world is still grown by hand, without the use of any machinery or advanced fertilizers. More realistic estimates are around 12-15bn people that can EASILY be fed by the world.
      Just not as easy and cheap as growing it through means of mass production or slave labor. that's the only issue. but not so expensive that people would starve...

    • @JollywoodJoel
      @JollywoodJoel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@liquidminds bigger issue is lack of clean water that kills way more people, especially children and is #1 killer of children in the world. When it comes to food, you're right, a more metaphorical way of putting is, "we don't have a food shortage problem, we have a food distribution problem" but many of these places don't have the ability to even grow food or, especially the right kinds of foods for all the nutrients, etc. Food isn't just substance for the stomach, it's obviously more complicated than that. So the problem with "starvation" is it keeps people sick rather than kills people.

    hi fitnessgood body, my husband is a farmer in austria and the reason they aren’t payed enough is due to the people who would rather own expensive cars and mobile phones and save on food. if only people realized how addicted they are to their houses, vehicles, and technologies they would quickly realize the importance of feeding themselves properly. I wouldn rather eat meat once a week and support our hard working honest farmers than everyday and slowly see the death of our farming industry. Do not forget that without farmers the world is not able to feed itself. let the governments open up their eyes and understand that if they want to eat their Angus Steaks on Sunday while sipping their Chardoney around their inground pools chatting about how they are pseudo saving the planet and working long hours,,,,,ha ha ha ha ha . LoL. then they should come and spend one week on our farm and then they will really appreciate their freak and T bone steak the next time they grill it. That is it for me .

    EVERYTHING DOESN'T NEED A SHORTCUT AND TIME-SAVING.....specially when it comes to what's going to reside in our tummies for a while??? These upcoming technology based-products involve mechanical approach & do not even contain the nutrition you eat for. Even if they start the production holding the nutritious values, processing and additives to the the animal stem cells to finally taste like the real steaks and meat, will be like eating a dead organism's meat whos genetic make up was still underdeveloped.... please search for the concept of stem cells , they are good for treatment of various diseases like Arthritis and cancers....and are still under research even to be used for cure... and here they want you to eat them just for their PROFITS....and most of all , there will be more Cancers and mysterious diseases in future generations.

    I'd hoped to hear mention of using seaweed - an absolutely golden market to tap into - to reduce the methane produced by cattle by up to 80%. Why is this still under the radar?
    It's also great to see efforts being made to find more sustainable solutions to fertilizers. With methane from enteric fermentation thus reduced and hopefully the emissions from the soil significantly reduced, up to half of the emissions by the agricultural sector can be reduced.
    The rest will have to come from consumers: make cow meat a luxury again and reduce the intake of dairy products. These two elements are the single most polluting foods that humans consume and take up the most amount of (agricultural) space in the world. So much food is grown just to feed the meat, taking up a huge amount of the habitable land on our planet. A _lot_ of progress can be made on this front alone.

      For those able to be objective talk of reducing emissions is a euphemism for reducing humanity. It would be very helpful to humanity if they collectively would cease consuming resources, breathing out CO2 and become the carbon they detest so much.

    • @beaugotdrums7821
      @beaugotdrums7821 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The decline of agriculture is because of environmental change and the shortage of effectively researching agriculture.
      Environmental change is the #1 biggest problem of agriculture. What causes environmental change? MEAT, can we live without it? Yes its so easy. Let's all do it to change the world. Or atleast try to
      There's not enough researching facilities about agriculture, we are growing so many monocultures just to feed animals that we then consume. Meat is the number one cause of isolation and destruction. We can live fully plant based and research more in the agricultural aspect of growing plants in New techniques. Using watering technology that they do in Kenya in combination with good polycultural growth. I think that's the answer. And not force feed animals and then kill them at 6 months old to then eat it just for pleasure. We need to get our nutrients from plants that we grow effectively and efficiently.

      Think about how much grain & animal products are wasted on worthless dogs, cats, ferrets, foxes & other BS.
      Small animals like quail, chickens, rabbits, etc. are good for small farms & are very sustainable with very little input required.
