Thank you! There was no one like Ann. I got to see her and Mickey Rooney live when they toured in "Sugar Babies." She was around 60 and still dancing just as well as ever; he was around the same age, and ditto. What a treat!
I´m brazilian and for first time saw here this nice number with eternally wonderful ANN MILLER: thank you very much for sharing with us this moment of joy in life.
Ann Miller lead one of the most fabulous lives in Hollywood. A young tap star at 14, replacing the original tap dance queen, Eleanor Powell, at 24, coming out of retirement to do Sugar Babies on Broadway with fellow Golden Ager Mickey Rooney at 60. What a tall, dark, and beautiful Texan she was. She's greatly missed. Love hearing her rapid-fire taps in her films.
Love them both - but her age (and Rooney’s) were questioned for some time. No way she was 14 in Stage Door. I believe Miller even says she was 16 in later interviews. But LOVE this clip and how delightful Miller is - comic, singer, tapper extraordinaire!
This is proof why Columbia was the 'poverty row' studio. The camera should be centered on Miller during her dancing, yet half the time she's almost in the background.
Rita Hayworth was Columbia's star. I am not sure why you say Columbia was a poverty row studio since Columbia had an big budget A unit for its big stars like Hayworth and had a lower budgeted B unit for stars like Ann Miller. True, unlike Eleanor Powell (MGM) or Rita Hayworth Ann did not get the constant close ups when she danced. A example of a poverty row studio would have been Monogram studio where stars were sent when their careers fell into decline.
Ann Miller was famous for being able to dance intricate steps on stairs and platforms of differing heights, which she does here as though it was no big deal.
I'm sorry folks. As Brazilia actress Fernanda Montenegro put when she won an Emmy trophy, "latino" is a race invented by Americans. Yes because they think we are all the same thing,Even among countries which speak Spanish, the accents are different. IHowever it happens that in Brazil,WE SPEAK PORTUGUESE, and even so, Portuguese from Portugal is very different from the Portuguese in Brazil.Much more than the differences between the English of Britons and Americans; Well, this film is very old, an antique in terms of movies. But Hollywood and their producers should have some care, because the "Brazilians" here have a strong Spanish accent, and the way the guy saus "ganha-pão" (profesion, way of getting money) it's hilarious. They look simply unctuous.
I agree with you, Alberto. The same mistake is repeated over and over again when Bossa Nova is wrongly categorized under "latin music", and worse than that, sometimes "lounge music"!
He was Wondering onedurful one, that surely found his one who awaits his lucky day when he reaches up with his trembling hands to touch her face and fall in love all over again. 🦅🌸🌺🤟
So much love for the lucky OG blessed and love for all the wonderful ladies who bless the world with a great smile and love that never is forgotten. 🧞♂️🧞♀️🌸🌺🤴👸🦅🐝happy.
My mom was a dancer in this movie. I love seeing her in this clip. She told me that Ann miller wore a putty nose because of a bad nose job. When she’d tap fast in circles, the tip of her “nose” flew off and hit a cameraman in the face.
So what's the big deal with her nose? Because of people like you is the reason why all that magazines, paparazzi exist because your dad life is not enough for you to keep entertained you, that's why you can see this vid without looking for something else less important than her nose. Sickening.
Much of this is heightened for publicity. Even Miller gives different versions of the relationship & issues. I try to focus on her extraordinary talent and humor.
misskitty - so what's up with her nose? Some people can't let go stupid things, Ann is more than just her nose, she was an awesome talented performer, charming beautiful, classy lady, and here you're talking about her nose!? Wow.
Choreographed by Nick Castle, Eugene Loring and Jack Cole, all contenders; but the score is unmemorable and the director is a hack, Sylvan Simon. The routine is interrupted by dialog to make plot points, and Ann is short-changed by b&w, which was passe by 1946. She must have been more thrilled by the call from MGM than by Brazil. In fact Keenan Wynn, Simon and Loring were all on loan from Metro, which shows what a difference Freed, Pasternak or Cummings could have made if they had been in charge.

I agree, she was one of the kind. Unfortunately she never had top billing, very underrated dancer, actress and singer. Rest in peace lady Miller!

@virgiijauregui This might be her original nose--I could never understand why she got it fixed. It was perfect for her face.

It was fixed up for the movies then her husband pushed her down the stairs
Vanity can do strange things.

They didn't rap in the old days but they did have tap. They did a lot with it, especially Ann.

BRAVISSI MAAA!!
The camera should have stayed on her rather than doing long shots. What a shame she wasn't featured 100% of this routine.
Where is rest of movie?

Wow, you must have a very sad life if Ann's misfortunes like her nose mishap is worth for you to mentioned.

That's not true. Your fabricating an old rumor.
BS.Yes, she had a botched nose.job but a prosthetic "flying off" rumor was total BS.. You are a disgrace to the memory of your mother.
🤔Hummm!
Was this an RKO film?
No it was Columbia picture.
when did she get her second nose job...she didn't need a second one, the first one looked pretty good here.
