Blue Shift always has a special place in my heart. I remember seeing my cousin play the very first version at his house one time and I was hooked. I was 10 at the time and I asked my mom if she could get me the game to play at home. We didn't have very much money at that time so she said no. I sadly acknowledged and went on with life. On that Christmas that same year, she didn't just get me Blue Shift, but the Half Life Platinum Collection that had all the different Half Life versions, including Blue Shift on it. Needless to say, I was at the top of the moon when I unboxed my present. It is a memory that I still hold dearly to me till this day. I am very much financially well off now and I take care of both my parents and send them on holidays every year. I will never forget what they have done for me and never will for the rest of my life.
This was very sweet to hear, genuinely made me smile! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I hope you continue living with life full of prosperity 🖤
I actually played both versions. If you go along with the military they're passive until they ask you to "check the ID on this scientist", you realize you're now leaning over the pit where they were dumping bodies earlier, and they all take the safety off and start shooting you.
It's such a small detail, but adore how the animators opted to have Barney actively take one clip from his vest as he is actively replacing the partially spent one when reloading when you reload and don't have an empty gun.
Yeah. Also that animations where Barney fully inspects the weapons like holding the submachine gun grenade or opening up the satchel with C4 inside. "Reload, Calhoun" also a really nice addition to NPC interaction.
You just explained nearly 2 years of questioning how guns in video games worked after I got introduced to VR shooters. I literally thought it was impossible how the system works. I bet if half life Alyx let you keep partially used magazines it would have made more sense.
@@yourlilbrudder5766 honestly, the varied reloads based on whether your gun is empty or not has been a thing for a while in the newer call of duty games. for all their technical achievements, i've never understood why valve is so slack when it comes to that particular level of attention to detail
Something I believe a lot of people who dismiss Blue Shift (and even some who enjoy it) don't realize is that part of Blue Shift's experience is the world building it creates of the Black Mesa facility. I'm more than pleased to see that HECU Collective understands that and has already expanded upon it better than the original Blue Shift did in its entirety. The NPC interactions in Chapter 4 here are really fun and flesh out that world building of the 'other side' of Black Mesa the original Blue Shift set out to explore. Hypothetically if you were to play Black Mesa and BM:Blue Shift before going into Half Life 2 for the first time, BM:Blue Shift seems to be a promising transition into the more character dialogue based narrative of HL2. I wanna say "I can't wait for more," but I'm sure the wait for Chapter 5 will be all the more worthwhile
Im very hyped for chapter 5. This team proved what they can do with Azure Sheep's remake Part 1. Hope they keep the oppressive, frantic aspects of Blue Shift's Xen levels. Wonder if we will see Nihilanth's tower.

I just love how Blue Shift got fleshed out. The NPCs really made me care about them and it made me going through sadness and hate to new Vortigaunts to worry and happiness of seeing the guard buddy again. Their dialogues are also hilarious. I never got into playing any of the original expansions. But after watching recent revisits and play throughs of the originals over recent years seeing what they've done with this Blue Shift remake just like what the Crowbar Collective did with the original Black Mesa remake of HL is just amazing. I know a lot of people get tired of another creators take on the Black Mesa facility and think it's over done. But I love it, especially if it's a well done small add-on side story map for the Black Mesa game itself. Because seeing someone else's idea of what another location within the Black Mesa facility looks like as a whole just shows how absolutely massive the place is. That's why I absolutely love the Pre-Disaster mod maps of the original story maps. Because they're given areas for you to go that were behind a closed door or hallway that was just there to make you wonder where it lead to. Even if the current mods are still broken I love what they did with the Bio Dome facility from the Questionable Ethics chapter with all of the added locations to explore. I agree with the part of paying it like an official DLC, this is just too good to be free. They really deserve money for this. Also, there's a remake of Opposing Force on the way, but made by Tripmine Studios. Hopefully we'll see more of it soon.
@@Z-1991 normally i love free stuff, but i feel this level of quality deserves a paid release as a standalone game instead of just being a mod for black mesa
I love how they kept the way the story is to the original but also added new mechanics to the game like variants throwing grenade type things it's an amazing idea and their doing an great job. By the way i've only played the original blue shift once like 5 years ago so I have no idea if the grenade mechanics are in the original. I also found the original chapter 3 sewer area very confusing with the explosive boxes and crusher thing the first one you pushed off but you're supposed to find another one wich I found at the elevator with the vortigaunts but it didn't let you push the box anywhere.
I honestly think this is what the original Blue Shift should have done. They couldn't reuse the new enemies from Opposing Forces, or make new enemies for Blue Shift. The best alternative would have been to add on to the og enemies. Oh well, classic Blue Shift is still a solid game and this looks like a truly amazing remake.
Half-Life Security Guards and Hecu Grunts are never that powerful unless we control them as players...... I take it back, after watching2 friendly guards in action, I hope it means we get some company in "Power Struggle" chapter And gotta say, those hands models with the amazing animations truly helps giving the feeling of playing in the shoes of Barney Calhoun.
i LOVE it that Otis, a female scientist, and a maintanance staff member have some protagonism and probs are gonna escape with calhoun along with the others.
I really hope they make it, because itll show that, even though black mesa was pretty divided up based on everyone's professions, when everything literally goes to hell, that doesn't matter anymore and they all got to work together to live
25:15 The first time I saw this part of the elevator just before the Cascade of Resonance I was simply immersive and afraid, scared, as if I were really there in Calhoum's place. The building of suspense in this part is impeccable, even months, when you don't see it again, as if it were the first time. HECU Collective are the only people who are making things happen instead of talking about them for years. They're the #1 in the Half Life modding community at the moment
It's such an amazing game. I can't wait to play it myself. I don't know if anyone remembers, but after Barney gets back from the alien world, he is told to go down to get another power cell. Rosenburg tells him that other people have gone down. I have a bad feeling those 4 are the people that go down. Which is sad. I would have liked to see them survive.
Great mod, love the comradery between all the random workers in black mesa, the level design and music is great too. Plus I like how they switched up the animations for the guns in this to add a bit of variety from the OG black mesa, particularly for the "first time picking up this weapon" animations, loving the one for the shotgun 👏 Looking forward to the xen sections once this mod is fully complete 👌 But there'a two small nitpicky sections of dialogue in this mod: -The scene where the female scientist locked inside that room is panicking and says something along the lines of "it doesn't matter if I'm locked in here the aliens can teleport around" to the guard outside, right before a vortigaunt teleports into the room and blasts her. -The part where the construction worker is going off about how the military is on their way to hopefully save everyone, then the literal next room over there's military personnel dumping dead scientist bodies down into the water. Both scenes seemed like they're basically setting you up for what is exactly about to happen a few seconds later, but it's meant to be played off like it was just a total coincidence that they mentioned it beforehand. Seems a little hamfisted and too on-the-nose in my opinion.
10:52 I like to think that because of experiments mirrors become portals to mirror universe so often that everyone stopped paying any attention to this.
This look so awesome, the only thing I could of wished for was for subtitles, I really wanna hear what that other Barney and Otis were saying during the firefights and stuff Also the odd voiceline here and there that would get muffled through walls

39:27 I like The remake change the model of this security guard originally he looked normal but thanks to chapter 4 he’s the same security guard from chapter 3
I just realized something. The player seems to know his way around certain areas. At first, I chalked it up to having played it a few times over. But then it made perfect sense that a security officer would know his way around his job site.
Is it implied that everything was malfunctioning that morning because the Administrator diverted power to run the Anti-Mass Spectrometer at higher capacity?
I like how it's so much like the original! Nostalgia! Barney's one of the lucky ones here for surviving what happened at this facility. Like Freeman and Shepherd.
Maybe you’re not fucking interested in this, but the original Black Mesa was able to convey the atmosphere of the year 2000, although the original half-life did not set this task in any way, and Black Mesa doesn’t talk about it in any way either.
Black Mesa is such a beautiful and huge faciiity. Now I just want to walk there before cascade resonanse event and just see how everyone have a normal day
+Bolloxed This is a really well done: and while I’m obviously missing what exactly they changed about the previous chapters, I really appreciate you playing through them again if only to show whatever minor things there must be. 1 thing I would like to mention is that while I know there’s a lot going on, might I suggest trying to stand closer to a character when they’re speaking a line of scripted dialogue; as it is very tough to hear some of it (especially in the old teleporter room) in this particular video. That being said though I would also just like to say that it is very enjoyable to watch you play games on your channel, and I would just like to let you know how much I appreciate all the work you must do behind the scenes in order to make your videos so entertaining and enjoyable to watch.
The dream team of Otis, Murdoch and Calhoun bringing the pain to the HECU is a fitting revenge for all the Security personnel that get taken out by the Marines.
This mod was a nightmare to download but it was worth it in the end! Loved all the characters, they’re all distinct from another and makes the story feel a tad softhearted. 7/10

15:20
I think the ballistics team should take a look at those targets... the bullets are ricocheting back at the shooter. lol
I like how at 7:50 we see Gordon arriving as in Half Life we see the guard knocking on the door he's locked out of
I love how they kept the way the story is to the original but also added new mechanics to the game like variants throwing grenade type things it's an amazing idea and their doing an great job.
The way he was checking the helmet before putting it on wanted me to add a background music: "Bal koteeee! Darassum Koteee!"
I love how saving the scientists actually means something now, and the group are used going forward.
It's amazing how much different yet true to canon this remake is. Can't praise the Black Mesa dev team enough.
Surprisingly, this is a different team called the HECU Collective not Crowbar Collective
Half-Life Security Guards and Hecu Grunts are never that powerful unless we control them as players...... I take it back, after watching2 friendly guards in action, I hope it means we get some company in "Power Struggle" chapter
And gotta say, those hands models with the amazing animations truly helps giving the feeling of playing in the shoes of Barney Calhoun.
i LOVE it that Otis, a female scientist, and a maintanance staff member have some protagonism and probs are gonna escape with calhoun along with the others.
Too excited for the full release of BM: Blue Shift, Operation Black Mesa and Guard Duty. That after Black Mesa and HL: Alyx gave us more hope for new releases of this incredible universe that is Half-Life/Portal
Вот бы вы ребята OpFor сделали, я бы такой shut up and take my money
You can see that this mod was made with love. Astonishing work.
HECU Collective are the only people who are making things happen instead of talking about them for years. They're the #1 in the Half Life modding community at the moment
I say HECU Collective are doing a good job so far. I would gladly pay for a polished, full version.
Add Operation: Black Mesa to your wishlist it could be out soon
@@roycechuaThat is a different developer if I'm not mistaken.
it's great!
It's amazing how mod makers can make games as good as big companies!
thank you for sending this to us.
13:54 "Ah, hello Gordon. Another day, another dollar."
I like how Barney holds his guns differently than Gordon.
I mean the security guards are trained
It's such an amazing game. I can't wait to play it myself.
I don't know if anyone remembers, but after Barney gets back from the alien world, he is told to go down to get another power cell. Rosenburg tells him that other people have gone down. I have a bad feeling those 4 are the people that go down. Which is sad. I would have liked to see them survive.
“I’d be surprised if there was one good brain among them!”
*dies in an elevator while that “one good brain” goes on to save mankind*
Great mod, love the comradery between all the random workers in black mesa, the level design and music is great too. Plus I like how they switched up the animations for the guns in this to add a bit of variety from the OG black mesa, particularly for the "first time picking up this weapon" animations, loving the one for the shotgun 👏 Looking forward to the xen sections once this mod is fully complete 👌
But there'a two small nitpicky sections of dialogue in this mod:
-The scene where the female scientist locked inside that room is panicking and says something along the lines of "it doesn't matter if I'm locked in here the aliens can teleport around" to the guard outside, right before a vortigaunt teleports into the room and blasts her.
A scientist and guard both mention the HECU arriving in Office Complex so I’m not too sure about #2 unfortunately
10:52 I like to think that because of experiments mirrors become portals to mirror universe so often that everyone stopped paying any attention to this.
This look so awesome, the only thing I could of wished for was for subtitles, I really wanna hear what that other Barney and Otis were saying during the firefights and stuff
Also the odd voiceline here and there that would get muffled through walls
Well, the alternative is Sexy Nutella
@@Psi-9_AbyssGazers this is so funny without context
Greatness and Excellent Bolloxed!! You are the best playing for Black Mesa Blue Shift Chapter 1 to 4! The game is very incredible and important. The Half-Life Blue Shift Remake it is adorable. I really like this Black Mesa Blue Shift.
Ai generated ass comment
Still Hyped and Waiting Tripmine Studios games, meanwhile I enjoyed much this Blue Shift Remake in Black Mesa. Good job HECU Collective ♥️
7:54 there is our free man himself gordon freeman
finally a mod that has proper *gun range safety* mechanism
1:46:49 Press F to respect the great H.E.C.U soldier
I don't see any hecu soldier idk what you are talking about
@@headsethub6716 1:46:42 Right when the guard kicked the door, there was someone standing behind it and got killed. You notice blood clipped through and on the wall.
Can confirm it was the HECU soldier when I played this today.
Am I the only one who drools over every inch of tram footage I ever get to see ?
Calhoun could of saved his fellow brother by pressing the down button once he got off.
Otis is God dam invincible hero, he just refuses to die, couse his mom will be pissed at him if he died.
39:27 I like The remake change the model of this security guard originally he looked normal but thanks to chapter 4 he’s the same security guard from chapter 3
Imagine being a OSHA inspector during the resonance cascade…
13:55 did my man quote dr coomer?
Как мне нравятся твои прохождения, ты не просто спидранишь, а проходишь да так, будто ты заместо реального героя))) будт Барни, это ты сам))
This is not a speedrun, it is a regular full playthrough
I just realized something. The player seems to know his way around certain areas. At first, I chalked it up to having played it a few times over. But then it made perfect sense that a security officer would know his way around his job site.
I love this walkthrough, it has a feeling of you being a highly trained professional
25:39 Looks a lot like the trams from Alien: Isolation
I'm so happy they implemented gordon in the beginning, the attention to detail with both games HL and BM are just so exciting.
Já existia no original , o Gordon até dá uma olhada pro Calhoun.
Is it implied that everything was malfunctioning that morning because the Administrator diverted power to run the Anti-Mass Spectrometer at higher capacity?
6:35 the beginning of black mesa
I like how it's so much like the original! Nostalgia! Barney's one of the lucky ones here for surviving what happened at this facility. Like Freeman and Shepherd.
2:32:25 I'm so happy for that Rosenberg know the barrier is broken before just like Half-Life Blue Shift
Now I'll be waiting for Opposing Force.
Now I just want to walk there before cascade resonanse event and just see how everyone have a normal day
the Gordon Freeman detail on 7:52 and 12:33 are goosebumps
The Section A-17 Prototype Labs look so good that it makes me swoon lol.
Nice work HECU Collective 😁
Bruh the dude in 54:55 sounds like he is completely oblivious to the disaster
the next thing you know, they pump out Black Mesa: Opposing Forces in like a few years
Love how you mess around at the first parts. The first parts are always a treat to explore.
It's nice how all the guards have different looks and personalities in this game
+Bolloxed
This is a really well done: and while I’m obviously missing what exactly they changed about the previous chapters, I really appreciate you playing through them again if only to show whatever minor things there must be.
I honestly love the half life remakes just to see different areas of Black Mesa in the source engine in the opening train rides.
this mod is official quality
This mod has got to be one of the best mods ever made for any game ever
The dream team of Otis, Murdoch and Calhoun bringing the pain to the HECU is a fitting revenge for all the Security personnel that get taken out by the Marines.
have a feeling whoever got Captive Freight on their desk was fond of railyard's. not a complaint, looks fun running those shunting engines.
0:13 You missed your ride.
Half Life: Glock Simulator do be looking rad. Thanks for the playthrough B!
This is absolutely beautiful!
the weapons here sounding way better than the first black mesa
Was anyone else expecting to hear Gordon yell out “sucker!!!” When he was passing by Barney on the tram? Some freeman’s mind meme reference
This mod was a nightmare to download but it was worth it in the end! Loved all the characters, they’re all distinct from another and makes the story feel a tad softhearted. 7/10
The overhaul of black mesa and this is soooo fuckin good
Hopefully there will be opposing force
Would've been cool if Barney talks in this remake since the og Blue Shift doesn't, but overall can't wait to see chapter 5 soon 💙
jesus christ that one single chapter is several times longer than the original whole game
