Lovely video. Thanks for uploading. Informative and fun! added more to my interest of my dads old camera. I'm going to order some film soon and see how it pans out. remember back in the day when you had to wait a week or so to see how your photos turned out? By the way I took some underwater shots with this as a kid - the flash is obviously a no-no. It will just light up all floaty plankton stuff, but otherwise great. (As long as you have decent light). Peace n hugs.
Yes, I’m glad I have a fellow low tech repairman watching! The next repair is slightly battery acid covered terminals in the battery compartment. Sandpaper often fixes that. I don’t think I’d venture into actually dissembling a camera I thought had any real value. This camera seem built like a tank. I was really surprised to see how little ware it had.
Hello! I recently bought a Minolta Weathermatic A and it looks like the flash doesn't work... I tried to clean the terminals with sandpaper but it doesn't work... Do you have any other tips? Thank you!
how do I use this underwater? are there specific modes I have to put it in? for example, to use successfully underwater it needs to be in flash mode? also, does it focus itself - does it just depend on how far away your subject is from the lens
Yes, it is fixed focus so you have to be aware of that especially under water. Water changes the focus and the flash range. You should download the instruction manual. www.butkus.org/chinon/minolta/minolta_weathermatic/minolta_weathematic-splash.htm
No, the view finder is just to aim the camera. It isn't connected to the focus. So you guesstimate the distance and use the viewfinder to frame your subject. The camera would be a lot more expensive if they had linked the viewfinder. The only practical way for that would have been to turn it into a single lens reflex. The guesstimate focus works because the depth of field is much great for this 110 size camera than for 35 mm. The 35 mm version of this camera has an auto focus feature.
How do I get the flash to charge? Looks like it isn’t charging: also what is the red light that goes off inside the viewfinder when I push the shutter?
If the red light is on there is not enough light to take a photo. Turn the knob until it is on the lightning bolt. That turns on the electric flash. The indicator lamp on the back of the camera will blink on and off telling you the flash is charged. You can download a manual at www.butkkus.us . Check page 24 for the complete information.
Mike Kennedy thank you for taking the time. I think the camera might just be busted. I move it to the lightning bolt and the indicator light in the back does not blink. I put in a lithium AA, should I try just an alkaline?
Omar Barraza i had another thought. Try clearing the battery contacts. Often in old cameras they can get corroded by batteries leaking. If all the places the batteries ends touch are not shiny and silver it could be that.. Use some fine sand paper.

Thanks for the user report!
Great video! Very informative, i recently purchased one myself.
Great! You will have to tell me how your photos come out.
I must admit I was surprised that it didn’t have any type of light meter. These cameras got a lot of press at the time.
Your camera repair trick works wonders on old flashlights and other devices as well.

Hi thanks for the information it really helped me 😇
I am still looking for a film to go with this model
Limo sells it online.
Very helpful thank you
I JUST got one with carry case, lead protecter etc.
Great. This one came with a case also. If you didn't get the instruction manual with it you can download one. Also Lomo is making 110 film again.

My camera isn’t changing the depth in the viewfinder. Is there an easy way to fix that?

Omar Barraza any AA batteries should work.

Mike Kennedy sounds good, I’ll clean it today and let know you the outcome. If that doesn’t work I will probably open it up.
What type of battery does this camera use. It is AA thickness, but half the debt...
It us a AA. It might just have a large spring. www.aperturepreview.com/minolta-weathermatic-a
