      Was it a gift? I never saw a single kid with such shirt. I remember a few that would wear a yellow “smoke free class of 2000” shirt, but I never got one, despite also being the class of 2000.
      I remember the d.a.r.e. program though. I thought it was a stupid waste of time. How hard was it to just say “no,” honestly? But they would drive around in those d.a.r.e. cars which would be confiscated from some drug dealer. All that did was tell me that dealing drugs was lucrative. Look what cool car you could have. I moved around a lot too, so I saw A LOT of cool d.a.r.e. cars.

    • @maplematoke
      @maplematoke 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If anything , I think D.A.R.E program did more to make kids wanna do drugs if anything else . Perhaps government wanted more children to be hooked on drugs so they created D.A.R.E to help spread awareness that drugs exists so that kids will be eager to try it . Just my theory

      They tried before with that 80s show right after the original ended but i think it lasted maybe half a season. The problem was that people didn't want new characters in a different time. Thats why this one is basically a reboot with the same characters but new actors. I commented above about that.

    • @hahna77
      @hahna77 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    They did a great job in this one. I hope enough people watch it so it gets renewed, if you liked it, tell your friends because Netflix tends to make these decisions based on first 28 days of viewing data.
    The main reason it works is because they literally copied and pasted characterizations from the original as opposed to writing entirely new characters and dynamics. That's why they feel lived in, because it's almost as if they recast that 70s Show, we know and love these people already!
    Leia is Eric, Jay is Donna, Ozzy is Fez, Nate and Nikki are Jackie and Kelso, Gwen is Hyde and her mom is Midge. If Fez recurs, I imagine he'll be the new Bob.

      Saturday morning cartoons, man... So much nostalgia thinking about it.
      Also, one thing I remember was the mystery of late night TV. Since there weren't easy ways of looking up what was playing, there would be weird stuff playing at midnight that you would never end up knowing what it was. Anime was a big one, especially because it was looked at as more of a niche thing than how it's looked at now when it comes to U.S. viewership, so the only time you'd see anime movies playing was late at night on random channels.

    I was born in 1995, and yes, I agree. The '90s felt different, and everything was simple and less advanced.
    I remember watching DBZ on my VCR and Having Direct TV cable as a kid.
    I also remember the economy being way better than it is now; overall, 2006-2016 were some of the best years I lived through.
    Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Deathcore, Gangster Rap, Skinny Jeans, Black Vans shoes, Band T-shirts, everyone straightened their hair, everyone had either stretched ear lobes or lip piercings, and people were still flexing the iPhone 8's and the newest consoles like Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3.
    Damn! Being twenty-seven years old, I sometimes miss the days of old; high school was kickass, and I'd either be at the card shop playing some Magic the Gathering, or I'd be hanging out with the guys and playing some Call of Duty or League of Legends.

    It's a cute show. Is it a timeless classic? No. Is it as inspired as the original? No.
    But it's a fun way to spend an evening.
    There were a few scenes from the original series that were so expertly crafted and perfectly timed that they will always make me laugh no matter how many times I see them. My favorite is when Eric and Donna walk in on Jackie and Hyde, and they react in horror. The dialogue in that scene is worth its weight in gold. "Because you're breaking up the band, Yoko!"
    The funniest scene in this series is the 90210 parody. Spot on.

    I can't relate to all of these as an early 2000's kid, but I can relate to video rental stores. They were still around when I was a kid before Blockbuster went out of business. That was the era where the internet was also better but we didn't progress to fully relying on it yet. Kind of hope they do some references of the Genesis vs. Super Nintendo debate, that rivalry was so huge that it's still being discussed today. Much like if we ever get a That 2000's Show I expect Halo to be brought up. I wasn't even an Xbox guy or even knew what an Xbox was but Halo was all the rage. Dang it now I want a That 2000's Show after this lol.

    That 90s Show is full of anachronisms. I'm pretty sure they used the term "sick", as in "awesome". They use the term "bro" way too much, it wasn't as common. I also found Leia's kiss very problematic for obvious reasons.
