    My husband and I have followed your videos for masonry work. We had absolutely NO experience with mortar, rock work, nothing. But by following your videos we have been able to rock the foundation of our house and around our front door. I would love to send you pictures of the finished project! Any idea how I could get you some pictures? Thank you so much for making these videos!

    Mud monster drill auger is by far the best I've found..the auger design pulls the mix up toward the top eliminating chance of dry unmixed power on the bottom of the bucket..we will sometimes add a shot of liquid dawn to help add oxygen into the mortar which helps fluff up the mud..huge improve..as far as strength additives moose milk added to the water before the mix is a nice upgrade..thin set is added when we need really strong batches of mud but it does become costly so its only used when its needed..keep pumping videos im watching

      THANK YOU TROY. Ive hade this channell up for a year hoping sombody like you might watch and add to the conversation. Wow i never heard of the dawn for mortar. i saw drywall guys do it. but now i know why. THANK YOU. WHat are the RPMs on the mud monster? i had a rigid mud mixer but it topped out at 600 rpm. not fast enough for spec mix. it seems it will not activate spec mix polimars unless it gets close to 1000rpms

      A mud monster is just an auger attachment u can use with any 1/2" drill..cutrently i have an old 2 speed dewalt on it..same drill i use when im ice fishing..cant kill that gun

      yep i have one of those too. the newer dewalts are not as hardy, but those old ones are a workhorse.

    Roger - can you normally adhere veneer stone straight to green zip that has lathe on it?

    I use tec full flex real nice product never had a failure holds super strong. Never added type S to it. I like the idea. I'll have to give it a try

      Thank you. I will look up the tec full flex. how is its's pan or bucket life? do you have to use up a batch fast, or does it take a bit of time before it begins to set? THANK YOU FOR WATCHING AND COMMENTING!!!

      @@TheHowToHeadquarters holds up well in pan you get some time before it sets up. Depending on heat and keep it out of sun if can but much slower than like Ardex. Checked you out on Facebook you do really nice work. My type of quality.

      thank you! yep spec mix lasts 30 min to 1.5 hrs depending on the temp and humidity. what do you use in the mortar joints? do you lay cultured stone and or thin cut veneer stone?

    • @brhenneg4895
      @brhenneg4895 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHowToHeadquarters I do both cultured and thin stone veneers. I use a Portland type 1-2 and sand mix, depending on how strong I want it. I will add more or less sand but generally 3 to 1. Work in the Berkshire's MA

      @@brhenneg4895 that is a go to mix! we layed a lot of this stuff in a type s pre mix enriched with a big shovle full of portland per 80 lb bag. but then i got hooked on this spec mix.

    Enjoy the video...what is your recommendation for adhering Cut stone to cement board?

    • @TheHowToHeadquarters
      @TheHowToHeadquarters  ปีที่แล้ว

      this mix works well for cut stone (less than1.5" thick) but i recommend lath over the cement board. it makes a big difference. i made some vids on my channel on all the stages of thin cut stonework. thanks for watching

    Where's the recipe for adding polymer thinset to type s mortar mix? We don't have a access to the polymer modified spec mix.

    Great video. Kkeep them rolling. I'm going to install cultured stone on my foundation however, 80% of the foundation has many layers of paint over block. Is wire latth the way to go or should we try to grind off the paint? We're in the north east.

    • @TheHowToHeadquarters
      @TheHowToHeadquarters  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hummmm you could try to grind it with a cup grinder and then powerwash. but its a slow dusty messy process and you gotta get it all the way to raw creet. the lath method aint no fast process either. but the last time i had to make the choice i went with lath and tapcons. ,,,lots of drilling and screwing.

    i am using sakrete mortor mix type s for veneer real stone. what polymer additive should i use for strengthening the mortor? thankyou for your videos bill

    • @TheHowToHeadquarters
      @TheHowToHeadquarters  ปีที่แล้ว

      o would begin by enriching the sakrete premix with some additional type s masonry cement. usually in a 72 lb bag. then to add some polymers maybe a shovel full of standard tile thinset . you could also add acrylic bonding agent to the water.

    Will this recipe work for 1.5-2” flagstone directly on hardie board

    • @TheHowToHeadquarters
      @TheHowToHeadquarters  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well the 2" thickness is beginning to push the weight limit. is it inside? if so no problem. if its outside you might want to consider a shelf at the bae to settle the weight on. or a deck screw under each stone peircing into the stud or wood sheathing. eithere way be sure to put wire lath even over the hardie board. let me know if this helps.

      yeah 1" will be esasier, but inside, 2" is fine to just set on the floor and build up.

    Is this the same mix you would use to grout river rock veneer? I just started grouting my veneer, and I'm not happy with how it looks when it dries. It seems a bit rough, or even coarse looking. I can't get that smooth brushed look... Any advice would be appreciated...greatly.

    Hi
    Milwaukee magnum is only 850 rpm?

    • @TheHowToHeadquarters
      @TheHowToHeadquarters  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the old ones were sufficent, the newer magnums burn up. ive been using a ridgid mud mixer now and mixing it extra wet to keep the rpms up. then drying it out at the last min. there is really not a great choice out there
