This is one of the best songs i ever heard: deep lyrics, mesmorizing melody, fantastic harmonies, headbanging metal, contrasts. This song is in my personal top 5!
Fun Fact: Opeth’s The Drapery Falls had Steven Wilson I’m backing vocals, and this song has Mikael Akerfeldt on backing vocals (in the ah-ah-ah-ah bit)
Actually, many songs from Deliverance and Damnation had backing vocals and also some guitar tracks from Wilson. Opeth and Porcupine Tree were a bit in love there for a while :)
@@manitobanmisanthrope2495 i know this is a late comment but if you dont know Steven Wilson was the producer of Blackwater Park , Deliverance and Damnation and the main heavy riff in blackest eyes was a birthday gift from Mikael Arkerfeldt to Steven Wilson . Just some fun facts haha :)
Some recommendations for Steven Wilson solo stuff: -Home Invasion/Regret #9 -Drive Home -Pariah -Routine -The Raven that Refused to Sing I'd probably say give Drive Home a listen first, but any of them are fine.

React to Steven Wilson - First Regret/3 Years older. Steven Wilson is the leadman on Porcupine Tree and now does music by himself. But actually PT was always his own band, so its kinda the same.
Good videos as always, Drew. A few suggestions: Porcupine Tree: Lazarus, Lips of Ashes, The Start of Something Beautiful, Buying a New Soul Opeth: Burden, The Moor, Eternal Rains Will Come, In My Time of Need, All Things Will Pass, Heart in Hand Dream Theater: The Glass Prison, Learning to Live, Octavarium, The Count of Tuscany, Breaking All Illusions, A Change of Seasons Cheers!

It's so much fun seeing you enjoy Porcupine Tree for the first time! I'm so jealous. I discovered them at 14 and I wish I could experience them for the first time again.
Mike from Opeth also provides the backing vocals at the beginning verses. It would also be interesting to check out some of Porcupine Tree’s earlier material like A Smart Kid from the Stupid Dream album. It will show you how they evolved their sound. They always kept their sound moving...
I agree with you. There really isn't a bad one in all of the songs SW has written as he really is an incredible songwriter. Funny thing is that I first heard of PT many years ago. Like probably in the late 90's, but never gave them a listen until a couple of months ago. Now I cant get enough of them and I have gone back through Apple Music listening to everything that is in their library!!
I'm really happy to see more people discovering Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson. I've been a fan since In Absentia came out when I was a freshman in high school. I never got to see PT live but I saw Steven Wilson in 2018 and it was an excellent show.
I LOVE PT so much, and it is awesome watching someone groove to the song for the first time, chilling getting into the beauty of it, then, "Wait, final sound as a gun, smashing windscreen, fading out to song...is this gorgeous song about dying unexpectedly?" Time Flies, Bonnie the Cat, or Sleep of No Dreaming!
Love the channel mate. Your prog discovery is a treat to watch unfold. Next steps might be VOLA or Leprous if grand instrumentality is your kind of thing. Owls and The Price might be good starting points from each. Enjoy the journey mate. love from Glasgow
Along the prog rock lines, I'd recommend Close to the Edge by Yes. It's like classic prog, but so well put together, with lush harmonies and melodies from every instrument. One of my favorite pieces of music.
I highly recommend doing some videos on The Pineapple Thief, they are kind of like Porcupine Tree. Their song Too Much to Lose is up there with Anesthetize, both in length and quality, with multiple parts and multiple build ups
The song is about living your fullest life where you don’t regret wasting time on endeavours that give you no joy, because you could go and life could end any time
This is such a great slow burn/builder. Dark lyrics. Love it! Great reaction! Steven is a mad genius. Glad you are diving in. Anything solo is gonna be fantastic. The Raven That Refused To Sing, Hand Cannot Erase and To the Bone are great albums. So much from which to choose!
It’s always like, “Oh fecking hell, magical, aaaand not done with you yet during every bridge and outro”, “ or any fecking song we lay down” You HAVE to see the live concert versions, your brain will EXPLODE.
Steven Wilson - Routine (animated music video), Ancestral, Luminol, Ancestral, Drive Home (animated music video), pariah (live albert royal hall), home invasion... There are sooo many good songs to start with. I think its funny that you walk down the same path into wilson and purcupine tree that i did, by listening to and falling in love with Anesthetize. I have to say i love wilsons solo work even more than PT. I also discovered opeth by diving into wilsons work. Opeth and wilson are now my favourite artists. You are in for a treat boi!

Welcome on planet Porcupine Tree by a long time fan! I saw them three times live until now and when these covid emergency will finish and they will return to Italy (i am italian) i am gonna go to see them live again!
If you want to go back to some classic prog: King Crimson - Frame By Frame. They were a huge influence on Porcupine Tree, Opeth, and Tool (who actually toured with King Crimson). Also Yes - Awaken would be an epic old school prog react.
This was the very first PT song I listened to back in 08 and haven't looked back since! And it made it even more happy to learn the guys were really good friends with Opeth, Dream Theater, Haken, and other prog greats. but he's getting more and more leaned to the mainstream with every album he releases. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own. I'm a Porcupine Tree fan for 20 years now and always loved what he did (ok, only like a few songs from Blackfield). His new solo album will be quite a surprise to us I think.
@@Tintop Grace is great, but Raven for me is my fav. I love even his more mainstream stuff, because it still feels different. Love bone and personal shopper is in itself a fun listen.
Hey man. Blackest Eyes, The Sound of Muzak, Fear of a Blank Planet, Deadwing to name a few masterpieces. You're welcome. Keep it up. Best regards from Portugal
