You can say the original v40 (1995-2004) was the 1st gen v40. V50 2nd gen. And the second v40 3rd gen. The interior in this Car is based on the interior of the v60. the v40 is basically a hatchback version of the v60.
It is awful. Constantly blows the head gasket and is impossible to fix as it was designed poorly from PSA. Mine still leaks coolant but i just top it up every 200miles. Get a D3 5 cylinder, that is the most reliable.

I have V50 model from 2009,is this model of V40 smaller in the interior...or just the cargo is smaller due to the fact that v50 is station wagon ?

How reliable is this engine?
Is very reliable and very cheap , I had to change the gearbox on my v40 d4 and it cost me about 350 dollars

It's a good one, especially after 2011. No known bigger issues. If driven normally and serviced it can last long
