What a great overview! Just tried CooperVision's MyDay Torics, and am amazed at the comfort and clarity of vision they provide over CooperVision's slightly cheaper/older Clariti Torics. There were a couple of variables you forgot to include though with each lens: Thickness (equates to comfort the thinner it gets, although maybe Modulus is a better metric to use denoting flexibility/softness), and also clarity of vision (upon blinking some contact lenses rotate/dislodge in the eye due to inconsistent thickness etc., but MyDay Torics are much better in this regard).

Just switched from Acuvue Moist to BioTrue one day. I also found the lenses hard to handle and definitely had them pop out several times rubbing my eyes over the year I wore them so that’s definitely not just you :) The biotrues are way easier to handle for me and my vision seems better for not much more $$$.

I was recommended to use CopperVision MyDay daily disposable toric contact lenses as a first-time wearer. I found the contact lenses' vision was very clear, except it was hard to put on because it was too soft and my fingers tend to fumble, worrying that the lenses would be damaged or little contaminated. Moreover, it was hard to remove and almost had trouble taking out due to the dryness. I switched to using ACUVUE OASYS 1-DAY with HydraLuxe Technology for ASTIGMATISM Daily contact lenses and found this was easier to wear on and take out, did not experienced much dryness compared to CopperVision where I had to put eyedrops almost all the time. The diameter for both contact lenses had a difference about 0.2mm, which does significantly impact how it fit onto my eyes.

    Hi,
I am looking into getting contacts and I tend to bit of an overthinker when it comes to decisions like this. I am trying to decide which is better, monthlies or dailies, and I am a bit confused about the oxygen permeability. All the places say that dailies are suppose to be more breathable but when looking at dk/t values (what I understand to be as oxygen permeability) dailies tend to quite a bit below the dk/t values of monthlies. Not even a bit, the differences are huge (sometimes as much as much as 100 dk/t of a difference).
So what am I missing? How are dailies more breathable while the material is a lot less permeable. Very confused.

They now have a toric for Precision1. I've been wearing it for the last two weeks or so and really like it. Coming from MyDay Toric, it moves less in my eye and just seems to fit better overall. It stays quite moist, even at the end of the day. Now if Alcon would only make a toric for Dailies Total 1...
I trialed the Oasys 1-day toric several years ago and just didn't like the feel of the toric design. For lack of a better word, it felt "heavy" in my eye each time I blinked... I guess I am used to the prism ballast-type toric designs.

Good question! I do get a lot of people not being able to use any other material once they get a taste for the Dailies Total 1’s. Most optometry practices here in Australia offer a free trial so I’m guessing there might be something similar where you are located! Dailies Total 1 are incredibly comfortable but in my experience there's one big downside which is product consistency. Out of a box of 30 I sometimes find 4 or 5 misshapen lenses. They never quite settle on the eye and leave you with blurry vision. I've found no solution other than to throw it away and open a new one. Oasys never gave me that problem although I'll admit they're second place when it comes to all day comfort.

Silicon hydrogel was a game changer for me. I used Acuvue moist before (low DK) and changed to Trueye in 2007 in the old formulation (narafilcon B Dk 50). At some point in 2013 J&J upgraded these to narafilcon A (Dk 118) and since then my contact lens tolerance, even with long hours, has been perfect. It’s only now that my beloved Trueye has been discontinued that I’m becoming aware of all of this. Hypoxia is at the core of every contact lens complication, so oxygen transmission should be the first factor to consider I think, for people who wear contacts daily. I’m starting Oasys dailies now, hoping they will be comparable to Trueye. I tried them once before and still thought Trueye was better 🤷‍♀️

@@zodel8631 I have been using Dailies total 1 and I’ve been pretty happy, very comparable to Trueye. They also have a very high index of oxygen permeability (140) and are daily disposables. Acuvue Oasys daily disposables would also be equivalent and I have a box and used them a few times- also good and comparable.

Why do you even talk about lenses with a dk/t under 100? They will definitely harm your eye over the time
