    Love a drop goal. Also, isn't there something special about the crowds in the 80s and 90s. So much passion, no mobile phones, affordable tickets. They just loved watching the match. Miss that !

    Listening to commentary by Eddie Butler and Nigel Starmer-Smith made me realise how much we miss guys like them.

    How about a video on the EVOLUTION OF THE KICK PASS? France has become kings of this, and it would be cool to see how it has developed in the game during the last many decades.

    8:15 has anyone seen 41 phases in a game, like, ever? Huge credit to both sides for their discipline and accuracy in not giving away a knock-on or a penalty or a turnover for all that time.

      I remember this being my first visit to the Stade. Awfully dull game until that point, but wow what a finish.

    I love a drop goal, it’s just a shame you don’t see it that much, I remember watching Johnny Wilkinson drop one of if not the most consistent drop goals, there exciting to see in the heat of the game

    IRELAND'S last 2 minute drop goal to win the grand slam was a work of art, I remember it well, but Sexton against France was unbelievable the clock was red and Last kick of the game magic hopefully we can get another grandslam in 3 weeks 💚🇮🇪🇮🇪☘🙏

    @0:50 I've never seen this type of lineout throw in before

    • @johnlockhart5889
      @johnlockhart5889 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That’s how it used to be done. I was taught to do it like that in school in Ireland sixty years ago. The winger threw the ball in, not the hooker. Later, we saw the AB’s wingers standing side on and throwing in overhand, I have not seen that done in a long time.

    Teams don’t try drop goals anymore. It’s a lost art of rugby. It should be awarded 4 points to encourage teams to try drop goals more often

    There are far too few drop goals IMO. Especially in a close game with tough defenses, teams should take the points that are there.

      For one thing, they reduced the value of it. It used to be three points for a try and four for a drop goal.

      Risky play with little reward. Only useful in the last minutes when the scoring is tight.

    • @paulgush
      @paulgush ปีที่แล้ว

      In my time following rugby (since the early 90s) they've always been rare. One thing has changed, though- you can't go for a drop goal from a free kick anymore, or even after a pass from a free kick.

    Should a drop goal be say 4 points as its a hard skill, or is that ridiculous.

    • @douglasporter3865
      @douglasporter3865 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It used to be, back when a try was only 3, but over the years they've wanted to emphasise tries more and kicking less.
