If you have a sword with knockback, the drops may land on the block on which the signs are. Put a hopper in the middle pointing down, and one on each side pointing into the middle hopper. Then go another hopper down and extend the line of hoppers until you are right below your middle chest, or place a chest below the hoppers and make a small way there to collect the drops occasionally. You can if you do the first, just have both chests over each other, there should be a small hole through which you can open the one below, or put a stair there.
Mine spawns a few skeletons and they suffocate and I get the drops in the chest! Probably serendipitous but cool feature Edit: LMAO it spawns glow squids and I've gotten 20 glow inc sacks from it so far. Would recommend building in 1.17

Just another note at 5:31, you need to put double slab , other wise the water after the signs, will make the spiders go up and behind the 3 blocks you put above chests :D Best farm design so far.
Thank you! Built this is my 1.16.5 world (my CPU cannot handle anything above 1.16 so I am waiting to play newer versions until I get a new CPU), and it works great! No problems, took me like 20 minutes to build, and very easy and fast. Go a bunch of XP to mend my stuff with.

Hi guys! I know no one cares but here is a little sad story that just happened! :( So, I was trying to build this so farm bc I found a spawner in my survival world. And when I was digging on the ceiling, a dug into a cave. And then a creeper dropped down. So I was alone with the creeper in a 9x9 hole. I hit the creeper once with an iron axe and ran to a wall. The creeper, so rudely decides to stand by the spawner and explode! So basically what happened is that the creeper exploded the spawner while I was digging out the hole and now I’m sad :(
Just made this in Java 1.20.4 and it works perfectly. I ended up digging a longer tunnel and placing soul campfires at the end cause i dont care about xp or spider eyes, i just needed the string. Thank you Shulkercraft. ❤

you can just walk towards the trapdoors to collect your xp as it worked for me. The monsters see the trapdoor like a full block no matter if its closed or open. Maybe its so the spiders cant see you. You can simply break the iron trapdoor bcz when i broke it there was no change (for me)

FAQ: Does this work for cave spiders? - yes, actually, if you just want if for normal spiders, you can save iron by not using those trap doors Does this work in Bedrock? -yes Is this better than a skeleton spawner farm? - Depends on what you want. Obviously they drop different things. XP-wise, skeletons are slightly better, since when they are wearing armor, they drop slightly more XP. Also you can use tamed wolfs to kill the skeletons for you. Zombie spawners are even better (though not much), since baby zombies drop more XP than the big ones, though most of the items they drop will be rotten flesh ;) Should I use this as an XP farm? -no, for an XP farm this is very slow. There are way faster ones, which are also really simple to build (e.g. Endermen farms). There are tutorials on this channel ;)

Just built this in 1.19.2 and it works perfectly! Make sure you add the fence gates and water in the ceiling as it's helped my spawns out a lot.

@Hai Red the spiders have a (small) chance to spawn with a skeleton riding them, so you end up with a small amount of bones and arrows among the loot.
