fun fact (if no one have mentioned this) Joakim actually joined the band as a keyboard player but when they could not find a singer he filled that role. It is still kind of a joke in the band that they are still looking for a singer.

    • @ryannelson3220

correct... and i think i watched a video of this and he also said it was hard for him to sing and play it as well.... which i guess is why we fans rarely see it, idk??

Yep, Joakim said in an interview that he was put into the vocal role until the band could find a new singer and that "The lazy bastards still have not found one"...jokingly of course. lol

Sorry if i don't write correct sentences here but i wan't to share a story of my family about war. My great grandpa on my mothers side of the family was called to arms in WW1 to the eastern front on german side. He never wanted that to happen. He was guarding alone that night in a forest when he heared a branch break. He pointed his rifle towards that direction and in the almost full moon night he saw a serbian solider with a knife 4 meters away from him. He was about the same age as my great grandpa that time. The serbian soldier let fall his knife and put his hand into one of his pockets to pull out something. He pulled out a purse with fotos of his family and showed it to my ggd. My ggd spared his life and showed the serbian soldier fotos of his family. Normal at this time during war both was very hungry and communicating with hands and feet because noone of them understood the other one they decided to break into a farmers chickenhouse and steal a chicken to eat it. Only one because they saw the farmer was also poor because of the condition of the buildings and the small amount of chickens. They shared it together in that one night and in the morning they said their farewells and go their ways 😂 funny story. My ggd always told my Grandpa that ,,The ones who wan't war the least are the ones who suffer the most,, and he is right. My Gd was called to arms by the Nazis when he turned 16 to the ,,Volkssturm,, during the last months of war (eastern front). He also never wanted to fight others. He said he doesn't know one german (personaly) that time who liked that war. The vast majority of the germans hated it from the beginning. He survived only because of the big hearth of a russian soldier saw him crawling through the forest back to his home (he was stationed only 7km from his house in the Prenzlauer Gebirge). Russian soldier stopped him and asked if he is SS or regular Wehrmacht soldier. He let him go home because he wasn't a SS soldier (he wasn't even in the Wehrmacht really). He told me this lession my GGD told him and carry it in my hearth. I'm proud of my GGD that he spared this poor serbian man and i'm thankfull for this russian soldier who gave this kindness back to his son my Grandfather. War is shit.

Hannes was the soldier who climbed out of his trench. He's also Sabaton's drummer and Floor's husband which is how she was brought on to sing the ending credits. Sabaton knew her very well as you know. There are very few singers who can match her voice.
I would say only Epica's Simone Simons can come near to Floor and she and Floor are close friends who have sung duets together. If you haven't already, pull up Simone and Floor with Stabat Mater Dolorosa. Their fans gave them a long ovation at the end.

Thanks Tauri for the great reaction and for playing the video to the very last bell chime. Not many do. Sabaton really knows how to tell stories and wrap them in great music. This combination, the variation of Carol of the Bells and the lyrics (and video) about war activities with the truce in between is an amazing composition.
And of course you would immediatly recognize the voice during the credits 😊.
About the truces afaik there were multiple truces at different places that were initiated independently from each other and lasted for different periods ranging from one day to a week (till New Year's Day). And there are reports that after the truce the soldiers were aiming high over the enemy's heads to not shoot them, which led to the relocation of troops to other places of the front line and they made sure this would not repeat the following years.
Oh, and thanks for calling it football 😉.

Nice reaction, Tauri! And glad to see you return!
What gets me is the end of the video -- the guitarist carving 2021 into the cross. Because always should we remember that despite the conflicts in the world big and small, unity always wins against division. As even the Bible points out: "A house divided against itself cannot stand." ~ Abraham Lincoln
And more than ever, we need unity. To come together. To show that even in the most hellish of places, the darkness in the human condition can never win, as long as there is a sliver of light that stands against it.
I hope you're doing well, and never be afraid to do what you need to, to stay happy and healthy in these trying times.

It's ok to cry, i get emotional and sometimes teary eyed with this song too. Many of us lost Family Members in Both Wars. One of mine Victor Stewart Marshall aged 41 Private Canterbury Infantry Regiment 2nd Battalion Is buried over in a Cemetery in France and one day i hope to visit his grave site. His Father migrated to NZ from Glasgow John S F Marshall. The other in WW2 Was my Grandad Walter Stewart Marshall Part of a three man Vickers Machine gun crew 27th Machine gun Battalion Was captured in Crete a famous story of how he was one of the soldiers that tunnelled out of an prison camp saved some lives and managed to make it to Turkey Caught up with Allies then brought back home Later changed his name to re enter the War this time got wounded and had to return home but Stomach Cancer formed where the wound was and he later died from these wounds. War is an unnecessary Evil but never the only Answer.

Incredible song, video aaaaand..., offcourse final scores by our godess Floor! If you don't get emotional over this I don't know what does. The moral of the story is that common folks fight and die in wars that are instigated by higher placed people for power, money, jealousy and hatred..., then..., and now still the same, therefore they engraved 2021 in the cross at the end of the video..., humankind never changes do they? They won't learn! Good that artists like Sabaton once in a while kick history in the butt and in our consciousness..., lest we forget!!!

Great reaction, Tauri. A heartbreaking song, with Floor's soaring vocals at the end. Instead of this truce spurring peace negotiations the war went on for 3 more years. The generals and leaders on both sides made sure their men never did this again. They felt fraternization led to a loss of morale. So instead, they sacrificed them at the Somme, Gallipoli, Vimy Ridge, Ypres, Verdun, and all the other murder sites. All to move the front line a mile or so. One gentle correction, Tauri. If your late grandfather was in the trenches in WWI, he fought the Imperial German Army. The Nazi's were WWII. There were far less trench battles in that war.

    • @swbigfan1
      @swbigfan1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's true that military leaders on both sides worked to discourage another Christmas truce. However the other reason that the truce worked in 1914 but not so much in the rest of the war was that the war had only begun a few months earlier in 1914. By the time of Christmas 1915 soldiers had been watching friends and family die horribly for another full year. It was much harder for them to put aside the feelings evoked by living with the horrors of war.

Love the reaction, very emotional. It was the Imperial German Empire in World War One, not Nazi Germany. Nazi Germany was between 1933-1945.

great reaction, another good song and music video on this topic is 1983 Paul McCartney - Pipe Of Peace deff worth a watch. there is a decent movie (2005) "Joyeux Noel" (Merry Christmas) shows the German, French & British (well a Scottish unit) , sadly when word of these events got out many units were punished and relocated to other sections of the line were the fighting was more savage. and then they made sure on holidays they would launch attacks and such. but the war took a turn and got more deadly esp once GAS started to be used in 1915 some soldier tried to repeat the event of 1914 but were shot.

Currently, we have a war in Europe that may develop into a world war. People do not learn from such images. I have never been afraid until now, but I think the current situation scares me.

Hi Tauri. You should also watch this: "Christmas Truce - December 1914 - Sabaton History 107 [Official]" on the channel Sabaton History. They talk about this episode in history of WW1. My ancestors were not affected by this, because they were fighting on the Eastern front or in Italy. But this music video was filmed in my homecountry. I was once or twice close to the filming location. :-)

Sabaton is amazing! Got into their music thanks to Dan Vasc's covers. Love them now, for the great band they are. If you haven't already, you should react to Dan; his voice is amazing and EPIC! He's done a great cover of Burn Butcher Burn and Angels We Have Heard On High since December 16, plus over 200 more over his career. Thanks in advance, and thanks for this one. This song is great!

Soldier humor gets dark fast. Yeah, you're walking among dead friends and it's awkward beside an enemy, but you can probably find one guy you couldn't stand and crack a joke about how they did you a favor hitting THAT guy. The humor gets dark fast on the front line. (Iraq vet)

2:17 - Not to downplay the terrible things your grandfather must have seen, but what you're talking about - the nazis and stuff - is WW2.
The song here is about WW1. That war was ten times more brutal than WW2. Trenches in the second war were mostly temporary. But some of the WW1 trenches were used for months, in some cases even years. Soldiers literally lived in them, getting shelled night and day with the possibility of a gas attack being ever present. Luckily after WW1 the usage of poison gases in warfare was banned.
Getting exposed to such gasses was one of the worst deaths ever. Imagine every square centimeter of your body itching and burning. Your eyes hurting getting blind and your lungs bleeding, making it impossible to breathe.

No offense meant at all, but the story regarding your grandfather confused me. You said that he was in the trenches (which would be World War 1) but you said he also brought home a Nazi dagger. The Nazis did not rise until roughly ten-ish years after World War 1. The Nazis were in World War 2.

What confuses me is the lack of comments that point this out. I instantly furrowed my brow and started looking for this comment when she said it. I'm not going to finish watching this. It's not believable that she just "misremembered" or "misspoke".

    • @neoxperson7858

To be fair, there was trench warfare going on in WW2, but no where near the scale of WW1. WW2 trenches were probably a pleasant hotel stay compared to WW1 trenches.

@@vhaarr Well that is not the problem, probably all WW1 verterans have been dead for like 5 to nearly 10 years. Maybe even longer.
