I’ve worked as a vendor for both NASA and SpaceX. I have always felt that NASA should fire 10 people and replace them with 1 SpaceX person. That was the delta in work efficiency, and I’m not exaggerating one bit.
Back in 1960 it was essentially a research department but now it's no longer necessary to be that inefficient as most of the research is completed.... Obviously the International Space Station is going to become the Starship
@@13thbiosphere there is PLENTY of research to conduct. But NASA don't have issue with their engineers and scientists, but bureaucrats. Fire 9 of 10 bureaucrats, hire engineer and scientist in their place
Musk is a "man baby" he throws tantrums and speaks before thinking. I expect it to be a mess but since it is likely that Trump's policy is to do away with NASA as no longer needed, if will fit well with doing that.
I absolutely cannot wait to see changes in govt operations. I worked as a federal employee for over 20 years. Disgusting to feel so helpless when you want to do things quicker, cheaper, more efficiently and you constantly run into a brick wall called "we have always done it this way".
I worked for NASA back in the 1980s, it was prestigious back then. I was very young but I don’t recall ever being rushed or experiencing much stress. It was nice.

I Can't wait to see how these next four years take shape with Elon's proficiency in business and Trump's audacity in his feelings and willingness for Bringing back the USA To be the best we have ever been!!!!!!!!
The next four years will be very interesting, things need to change! The government needs to operate in the interest of the citizens, not in the interest of furthering their own agenda. NASA is one of the biggest offenders of blotting their budget! I’m looking forward to seeing what happens moving forward!
We don't have a choice. The country is beyond broke, printing money like crazy, making it worthless. That is the value of your income, savings, investments, and pension, becoming worthless. This has to be addressed fast.
The US spends more on lipstick than on NASA. The NASA budget is not on the A list for where to make cuts. It totals to $25Billion which is a big number but consider that the F-35 project is $1700Billion.
@@kensmith5694 Good point and NASA wants more money. NASA from within should get wise and cut what is not going anywhere fast to fund what can be done economically.
@@sagecoach What you know can be done economically should be the domain of private industry. If you know the risks and rewards, it is a situation that private companies can do. The parts that meet that standard are the parts that NASA should stop doing. Its purpose is to push the boundaries into the unknown.
Two things. 1. Reusable rockets are the future and the SLS needs to be scrapped. 2. Manned space flight is a pursuit in vanity. The focus needs to be on robotic science missions.
The cancellation of the Artemis program would be the biggest victory for the American aerospace sector since the cancellation of the space shuttle, everyone knows that Artemis is just an expensive job hanger...
I agree and also the ISS should be de-orbited. No science that can't be done better for less is done on the ISS. There is no reason to go to the moon. Its been done and there is nothing there worth the trip.
SLS and Orion aren't needed to get to the moon. A ride to the moon in Starship would be far more comfortable for the lunar astronauts. Just send SpaeX Crew Dragon(s) to rendezvous with Starship in LEO and transfer astronauts for the moon mission(s). On return, they reenter the waiting Crew Dragon(s) for deorbiting and splashdown.
Going to the moon isn't needed. There isn't anything there worth the trip. Apollo put people on the moon. It was a stunt to show up the Russians. Putting some robots onto the moon may make sense but not humans.
If you look at typical use, for most people you will see that they may as well buy an ICE car if an EV won't do it for them. Hybrids sound great and get really good EPA mileage but the real world is less rosy. Most people don't plug them in. Most people accelerate faster than the EPA tests. The extra weight of the battery is trouble.
It's kind of ironic that for 2 decades all the agencies that have had oversight and regulatory control over Elon and his companies will now recieve oversight and scrutiny from Elon; there might not be a better qualified person with more experience being on the receiving end of regulation from so many agencies and have clarity on what needs fixing than Elon
NASA has a lot of taxpayer assets that will need a systems review and some very large astronomical data sets , technological data sets that taxpayer paid for that should be preserved. The but the Artemis program and the SLS program will have to be scrapped as the program stand now there’s no chance in hell in getting us to the moon by 2030. The cost is just beyond belief.
I don’t think it’s NASA that has to worry the most, the FAA might get a bigger shakeup, the paperwork, and insane investigations into things that do not affect safety, I think that annoys Elon the most. SLS is a dino I agree, the mobile launch system is kind of stupid, rocket should use the same launch system, there is lack of innovation with in NASA, that’s a problem.
Go Elon and Vivek. Interesting times a coming. May God and their security keep President Trump and JD Vance and all those who have their backs safe and healthy.
I don't think any harm will come of the efficiency commission. Can you imagine the waste that can be eliminated. I'm super excited about the potential while a bit worried about how we can screw it up! 🎉💩
Other than the obvious OCI issue I think Elon would do good. I think Vivek should manage the efficiency issues in NASA to ensure there is a firewall between Elon and NASA.
It is going to be very interesting, and informative, to watch and see which politicians (in both parties) oppose any move for cutting the worthless fat and wasteful spending from all the government programs. A lot of them talk about saving money and lowering taxes, but when it really starts to happens.........................gonna be fun to watch the show! Good luck to Elon and Vivek.
NASA needs to go faster. Spacex needs the checks and balances that NASA provides. i hope a healthy middle ground can be found. i look forward to some serious changes in our government, even though i do not like either of the candidates we had.
I think Musk has a reasonable understanding of research, at least on the engineering side. He also understands how to organise people to get things done. I am not sure if I would want NASA to receive less funding, but maybe they can more done with the resources they have. There's always dead wood in an organisation, and Elon is pretty good at finding it.
Absolutely, utterly fantastic. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall at NASA as the Trump sweep took place.. and especially when he noted Elon as the DOGE. I can just see Bill Nelson's face. I'm... effed.
There is a saying "Payback is a bugger." While I've watched it happen many times in my 78 years, I find that the better saying is "Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord". The laws of cause and effect are swifter and more powerful than people taking payback into their own hands. I believe Elon also feels that way and for the most part (despite his rants) so does Trump. So the fear NASA and crew should be feeling is not Elon's rath, but the pay back from their own deeds of greed and misuse of power.
NASA is a typical government agency, zero thought for efficiency or process improvement and 100% about keeping their cushy job and fantastic benefits. The gravy train ends in January and I very much look forward to a streamlined NASA that doesn't waste taxpayer money for a change
I agree. I think the ISS should have been de-orbited long ago and the money used on doing real science at the boundary. The ISS is like building a little hut at the end of your driveway and calling that a step along your trip.
I expect that is the real policy. I expect NASA to no longer be a real thing in 5 years time. The name may exist for some small office somewhere but that will be about it.
My guess would be that Elon would consult and help streamline NASA but wouldn't want to be involved in their contract negotiations. I think he would keep his space program away from any government control.
@@kensmith5694 Perhaps. But Elon is also smart enough to have the right people working for him. I haven't seen too many major errors in his space program.
U want Elon to open up the books on NASA to show the costs and get the other companies involved in helping to restructure NASA to run like a Successful Space company not a bloated bureaucracy entirety
@@RowanMangion1976 I will try to make it clearer. If NASA is working like a space company, they are competing with private industry. There is no reason to even have a NASA if they are doing that. If you are going to have a NASA, it needs to be pushing the boundaries of the unknown. That is something no private company will ever do. You can't work out the risk/reward for that so you can't fund it. So either NASA does stuff that is very different from what a space company does or it should jsut be shut down.
Oh no! Disrupting the status quo??!! How terrible!! How will anything get done??!! 🤣🤣🤣 Wait, this is exactly what we need!!! Let's go DOGE!!!!! Keep on keepin' on, man!

I agree. I think the ISS should have been de-orbited long ago and the money used on doing real science at the boundary. The ISS is like building a little hut at the end of your driveway and calling that a step along your trip.
We voted in the era of change so I am gonna sit back and enjoy the ride
🚀
Elon should be running NASA or better yet shut them down and just let SpaceX handle everything.
I know those astronauts who are stuck in space are probably relieved that Elon has been appointed maybe they'll actually get down to Earth again
it is definitely a good thing
dismantle NASA
I expect that is the real policy. I expect NASA to no longer be a real thing in 5 years time. The name may exist for some small office somewhere but that will be about it.
The government needs to be ran like a for profit business then the national debt will be payed off in no time!!!
My guess would be that Elon would consult and help streamline NASA but wouldn't want to be involved in their contract negotiations. I think he would keep his space program away from any government control.
Agree.. He's smart.. not stupid...
I am less optimistic. Elon thinks he is a lot smarter than he is. He will make a lot of errors.
@@kensmith5694 Perhaps. But Elon is also smart enough to have the right people working for him. I haven't seen too many major errors in his space program.
@@Gilikemail How many space craft got to Mars? How many blew up at launch? There are a huge number of errors to find if you look.
@@kensmith5694 How many launches has NASA had? Who rescued the stranded astronauts?
Changes needed. Lawless and Criminals not acceptable.
Maybe SLS, Orion, Starliner, and other overpriced trash cans will be side lined. They need to invest in projects like Dream Chaser and Vast.
🚀
this is the best thing to happen time to put the boot up you know what
U want Elon to open up the books on NASA to show the costs and get the other companies involved in helping to restructure NASA to run like a Successful Space company not a bloated bureaucracy entirety
NASA shouldn't run like a space company. That is what private industry does.
@ so run like a wasteful government body got it right
@@RowanMangion1976 I will try to make it clearer. So either NASA does stuff that is very different from what a space company does or it should jsut be shut down.
it is a good thing!
🚀
I would rather follow what is happening not listen to guesswork.
Maybe do something on Elons plans for a larger Starship with 100 engines and bigger circumference!
I think it’s about time!
omg nasa is finally gonna do something
Oh no! Disrupting the status quo??!! How terrible!! How will anything get done??!! 🤣🤣🤣
Wait, this is exactly what we need!!! Let's go DOGE!!!!!
Keep on keepin' on, man!
This is a great thing
Sounds good!!
