    Thanks to you I started playing Sc4 again after more than 15 years. I couldn't get a hang of the game back then, always fell short on money... Now my region prospers! Hopefully more people will find their way back to this great game - you deserve much more views for these awesome videos!

    I almost gave up when I first tried to understand and use NAM, until I found your video. It's so nice to have some well balanced, explained and up to date tutorials, neither too basic nor overwhelming. The whole series is excellent and really helps me. I'm so glad I didn't begin playing SC4 a few months earlier because I probably would have stopped too soon without you, thanks !

    This is incredible. Within a few minutes, you basically covered a lot of stuff in an efficient manner, and that was wonderful. Definitely looking forward to any future videos like this.
    And, I noticed, when you zoomed in to do the underpass, apparently, the NAM team has already thought of the vents for the underground routes, so, it seems you won't really be needing anything for them when you do long stretches. They're very small, but, they're still there. It's tiny little squares on the edges of the tile, usually lined up with the ends of the network that's underneath the tile.
    Either the advantage of the roundabout is lost, or you dukes of hazard your way across. XD

    • @RobsRedHotSpot
      @RobsRedHotSpot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Those tiny squares are also useful to remind you where your underground bits are ;)

    Hey Rob, thanks for the video!! Lol...you almost reminded me of a Civil Engineer when you made the crack about metres and basic high school. ;) I'm a Canadian and I found the roundabout part useful as my home town of Kitchener Ontario is going roundabout crazy. I downloaded SC4 Deluxe Ed from GoG and am running it separate from the GoG Galaxy. I might give NAM a try. My only concern is how much extra "oomph" it will take on my Acer Aspire E15 laptop. It's got 4Gig RAM and an i5-421OU @1.70 Ghz which has been able to play most games from the early 2000's with no problems. All this babbling, I must say I'm enjoying your SC4 videos from a year ago and I'm learning a few things I never picked up on back when I played the game new. I always split my time between simulators and Civilization. ;) Anyways I hope you have a great day today! I look forward to checking out more of your videos. :)

    You like higher capacity roads. Ironically, I like the Maxis settings. I now use a custom NAM, where some of the folders have been removed. For my appreciation of vanilla Maxis. I gotta have the RHW, and keep their traffic simulator. But their stations are oversized to me. I like the vanilla roads, so that i have to desperately start an RHW even quicker. I like the added traffic stress caused by Maxis roads!

    HEY NOW. To be fair, you are not supposed to stop at a roundabout. lmao. It's just that they aren't as common in the states so many never encounter one and they look scary when you have never used one. There was one by my old house and my stepdad was a truck driver so he taught me how to use it. But it was terrifying when I first saw it. Hahaha. They end up just being dangerous over here because people don't know how to use them. I don't even remember learning it in drivers training. Though I took that at 15 and I am now 36 so that doesn't mean much.

    Hi Rob, great video man! Very informative. I don't know, if you're still doing vids about this game or not. If you are, I would like to consider making a vid about ilives reader. This reads the simcity4dat.1 file and you can hack many exemplars and properties. This is compelling to me, and I wanted to see how far you could hack the game. Well, you still can't make large, large tiles (larger than the blue large tiles). You can't make new zones. You can't make a new travel type (you're only stuck with the originals, like peds all the way to monorail). But you can do a lot more other stuff, with it. I mean my java viewer didn't open the Traffic simulator, I don't need to worry about that anymore, if you know how to 'hack' ilives reader. YOu just don't need to worry about it.
    Why can't you make larger tiles? I think this code is in the SimCity4.exe hard code. I hex viewed the document, just to read what it said. It was interesting. I think Maxis doesn't want the NAM team/modders to hack the exe, but they're OK with us hacking the dat.1 file only. Hopefully, NAM team can buy the rights or something. Hopefully

    20:30 I don't know about other things, but even those roundabouts are buggy as hell. Sometimes they just won't place, sometimes you can add a 4th road to street+street roundabout, sometimes not, half of the time deleting roundabout and roads around it costs $100. Using those mods is just so much pain. You spend more time searching for peaces (not being able to see them all outright), then also time fighting against their buggyness, than playing the game.

    • @BORN753

      @@Nitroglowr It depends on a game and community. Civilization 5's Vox Populi mod community makes extremely polished releases.

    Hi Rob, I enjoy watching your tutorials. Thank you for your time and dedication!
    I have a couple of issues in 2 new cities I created after adjusting the JAR file settings to be identical to yours. My high density commercial zones no longer build tall high capacity buildings and skyscrapers. Another issue that I’ve never encountered in my dozen other cities in the same region (prior to adjusting the settings in the JAR file) is the “no jobs” symbol in my residential zones- all of which are near industrial or commercial zones. Does anyone have insight on what’s going on or whether adjusting the setting in the JAR file contributed to this? These issues didn’t occur for me prior to making these changes.
    Thanks for any help!

    • @RobsRedHotSpot
      @RobsRedHotSpot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! When you say JAR file are you referring to the NAM traffic simulator config tool? if so, increasing *network capacity* will make networks perform more realistically (less traffic jams in tiny cities). *Transit usage* settings will have fairly strong effects on what networks people use. So the "medium high" mass transit setting I use means that you will get job zots/abandonment if there aren't enough bus stops, for example. Pick your transit setting based on what kinds of networks you want to build. Another point: neighbour connections are really important for large cities. People seem to prefer to work in neighbouring tiles in many instances. Hope this helps!

    • @RobsRedHotSpot
      @RobsRedHotSpot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      IIRC you can select that option in the installer menu! The "no-arrows" option has a nice polished look but it's harder to work with. You _should_ be able to rerun the installer and choose the arrows, although I'm not sure what that will do to existing cities...

I wanted to make a coal mine or something, and send it to the neighbor without disappearing. The only way I can is by making the passenger train a coal train, and have a few sims ride it so that it could show up in the neighbor. See I can do that, I can make a passenger train look like a freight train. But I can't make the trucks, not disappear, if they leave tile. They have to disappear. This code must be in the .exe?

      What happened to the Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool (TSCT)?
      [Note: If you don’t know what the Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool (TSCT) is, or if you don’t use it, you can skip this section.]
      With the introduction of the new traffic simulator, the TSCT is simply no longer needed to tune the simulator. There are two reasons for this: First, the past year of working with the simulator continually emphasized that many properties affect the simulation as a whole, and not just the function that is documented for them. This means that many properties in the TSCT that were thought to be safe to modify actually are not, and modifying them will almost always degrade the performance of the simulator. Second, with the significant improvement in simulator pathfinding, some properties of the simulator have become self-tuning, and this makes the settings for them in the TSCT unnecessary.

    This is the exact reason why I don't like Sim City 4 because it's virtually unplayable without this mod, which I feel is a very disappointing aspect to the game and even when I did install it, it seemed like it didn't work.
    However after viewing this I may give it one last try but I don't have my hopes up.

      @@wisefelipe I was trolling lol... It's worthless to argue about metric vs imperial and it's always people like the vid creator who don't even use imperial who have the most complaints. I work manufacturing and when conversion is necessary the units are in both or in metric.
      Honestly imperial is fine for non scientific situations like checking the weather in F (a system scaled to the human body and not for science experiments) or measuring in feet or inches because you have a reference. Just struck me as an unnecessary reach is all, cheers.

    Allright Rob's Red Hot Spot. What hick country do you live in?
    In case you didn't learn in school USA mastered the nuclear bomb, travel to the moon, space shuttle travel, interplanetary space probes and telescopes, high technical military equipment and weapons, medical research, defense and welfare spending to other countries and oil and food supplies for much of the world.

      @@amorag59 Imperial's fine even in a scientific environment. Metric is no less arbitrary. The only difference is that metric made a physical prototype to use as its basis - which, due to how physics works, actually changes size and weight, negating the core premise of that system.
      All that matters is consistency.

      @@RobsRedHotSpotIt's true. All the sciences use metric system and those of us who cook and bake and care about accuracy also use it for that. I had to use it working in the medical field. I was told because it is both more specifically accurate and it's universal should we have to discuss care with a provider from another country. I also feel all those accomplishments pale in comparison to the havoc we have set upon the world and all the bullying we've done the last couple hundred years.
      I trash Americans as much as any foreigner does and I think it was just your delivery because it kind of offended me too. lol. I am literally in Facebook groups and subReddits for people dissing Americans. I was in Ontario last year (I live in Michigan so it's not far) and they wanted me to tap my debit card at a fast food place which nobody around here was doing yet. I can't remember what she asked me but I said, "I don't know! I'm American!" because I panicked and assumed it was something foreign though Canada does not seem the least bit foreign to me given where I've lived my entire life. They were all laughing and so was I because I felt confident that "I'm American" explained any stupidity I was displaying at the moment.
      As far as the "medieval measurements" thing, I get that too. I often call us England's intellectually disabled little brother because we drop things way after they did (slavery) or refuse to drop things they've already dropped (the term "football" to describe what American football is, feet and inches, etc) because of...spite, I guess? I suspect spite is why we spell color and favor and such how we do as well.
      I also have no idea how these people didn't figure out you're Canadian because I identified the "aboots" in the first video I watched. lmao. That accent is not far off Michigan's accent either.
      BUT TL; DR: I think it was just your delivery. No laugh or anything. Just a gloss over and move on. That made it come off more mean than a joke I would have normally appreciated because I GET IT. I promise I finished high school and went to college (where I learned the metric system!) and we're not all indignant morons. I've been trying to figure out a way to migrate to Canada for about 20 years. They don't want me. :(

      Haha I hope everyone knows I'm just kidding ;). _It goes without saying that no changes can be made to the measurement system in the USA if it poses an unacceptable risk to football._ In all seriousness tho I use both systems in everyday life (for different things) and there are aspects I like about both. Also I visit the US regularly (well... before COVID), and have always had a great time and met great people there.
