Vendetta against belts: my mother was a tailor and each time she worked with new patterns, she checked them out, only kept the interesting parts. I remember her saying "belt. They think I am dumb?" She took it as a personal insult 😂
I just made four vintage-style dresses and screw the fabric belts! No matter what style they are they never look good. I just bought some belts and DAYAM my dresses look fabulous!
And that is why, even though I always trace my patterns; I put the pattern number, size, measurements and date on each piece along with its name and piece.
Stephani, thanks for the laugh! I have a bag of odd pockets I make my own patterns and so I just keep various pockets in a bag when I need a pocket. I also have odd pieces I forgot to label and so I have them in a bag so when I open a pattern, if something is missing, I look in my missing pattern piece bag.I was always in trouble when I was a kid for mistreating my patterns. My mother would always admonish me and tell me that was money and money wasted if I didn’t care for the patterns thank you for the fun.
We were taught not to use the pattern to make a self covered belt. We were advised to buy and use a belt to match our handbag and shoes. When using a pattern that belonged to the person she was sewing for, pattern pieces may have been left out when the scraps, pattern envelope, thread and finished garment(s) were picked up. After finding the pattern pieces, she may not have remembered who the pieces belonged to (saved them and waited for someone to ask for them). The owners may never have hired someone to use those patterns again. The pattern envelope(s) may have been put in the trash (with the scraps) after it was decided that they were not needed.
THERE’S A VINTAGE PATTERN WIKI?! I mean, I’m as big as you, so most patterns won’t fit me unless there’s limited sizing up to don(and I already have to do FBA top and FBA bottom, short body, scoliosis and sway back, plus a host of disabilities) but would I sit for hours and drool through it? Yes, yes I would
I recently had a staple situation, NOT pattern related. Not finding my remover gadget, I used the point of a metal nailfile to pry up crimped parts. Worked well.
You are the reason I am cataloging all my patterns. It may not be a vast collection--though it will continue to grow--but, I'll know what I've got & where it is. So, if I come across a piece I missed putting away... I am also gleaning ideas from you and other sewing bloggers (you would probably know many of them) to use with the patterns I have. My "inspirations" file includes images, pattern numbers, and a brief description of what I want to achieve and/or what I need to do.
Can I suggest something for your store? Do you think you can delist patterns that sold? It's a bit of a pain to have to go through a sea of things that sold to see what is for sale.
stephanie, loved this video! I have a bag of pieces that need to find their homes! I HATE it when the piece just has the pattern number and not the brand! GRRR. You always make me smile!!!
Stephanie you can make a video out of nothing 😂 and I sat thru it! Which reminds me. When I find an odd piece I stick it in the front of my pattern drawer for someday.... Yeah Tina 👏
I'm guilty of liking the sleeves on one pattern, the neckline of another and the shape/body of a third. So after I make my frankengarment I put all the odd ball pattern pieces in one envelope. Sorry!
Playing a game of match-y-match-y can be ever so satisfying. Still rooting for those gown patterns will show up in an odd space. Great ad slug, by-the-by. Congrats on the sponsorship, well deserved. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Tedious work! Yet, SO gratifying to complete a pattern. Don't you wish that MORE people would iron their patterns? Stapling a pattern is the epitome of abuse!!
I often trace and adjust my pattern pieces to fit my 'not standard' shape. I learned the gard way to ALWAYS label carefully what exactly that weird shaped piece of baking paper is supposed to be 😂😂 I have literally *just* finished a Regency Gent's Great Coat for my hubby to wear to an event tomorrow! Sewing in chaos? That's me! 😅
OMG Stephanie I get this frustration so much. Over the last 8 years I cant begin to tell anyone how many incomplete patterns I have found during my years of selling patterns. I have been on occasion been able to reunite patterns in joblots but its rare. The box of incompletes continues to get bigger. You just dont feel right parting with them. Congrats on finding one of the hundreds that you have.
Love seeing you wearing dresses you made in other videos, it's like secret encouragement to DIY your dreams. Thank you, as always funny and educational.
A few years ago I matched up a bunch of my mom's stray pattern pieces to their envelopes. I still have a bunch of strays in a shoe box. They could belong to a ufo, or could have been separated during her sewing classes in her school years. I'll get back to trying to match things when I can.
My mother brought over all of her patterns that had been opened and nibble by her lambs ( because she kept the patterns in a bin in the garage, and the lambs got in the garage. I, too, now have a stash of patter pieces with no hone. Not my favorite activity.
Thanks for this video!! I hope that you find some more pieces to your puzzles soon! If she made clothes for lots of people I could see how some things got lost or mixed up. Maybe she made some things with bias tape neck and arms, and didn't use some of the patterns. Who knows! I have tried to keep all of my stuff together over the years. Patterns might have been throw away to some people. (I have some from my mom and Aunts that are really old and used a million times, so some people treated them right!) I love what you are doing and look forward to your videos!!
The dress you're wearing is very cute. What pattern is that? Also, I have a collection of odd pieces, and you have motivated me to reunite them with their "friends", so thank you!
bro, what if this is a series? like how there were more random lose pieces in that cabinet, just search for all the lose pieces and then put the patterns back together. that way all the patterns are sellable and there's content.
Try the point of a metal nail file to lift staples. You have a waist so you dont need to know this but maybe your followers might find it interesting. I began the Fashion School in 1969. At that time there was a lot of discussion about the disappearing waist. Of course the disappearing waist seam and belt where to blame and the fact (supposedly) that Elizabeth Taylor always had an elastic around her waist to encourage and fat to settle elsewhere and Elisabeth's waist was 18ins. Many of the students wore just such a elastic, only needs to be a simple 1/in piece of elastic
Do you do craft patterns too or just dress patterns? I have both and some are missing pieces. I would like to see if I can find a few of the craft pieces and get rid of the dress pieces. the dress pieces are antiques. 50's on up! Most are full patterns but have no outer sleeve.
Haha, yes, my autie gave me similar envelope and game is what is what, bcs she marked just few ones and others not A will probably never know what is what
I was wondering if the piece of brown paper, without anything written on,is the other side of the collar, to the one of the dress. I think the dress was blue with a big white collar???
If I recall correctly, in prior videos she has showed herself searching ebay or other sites to see what prices things have sold at (not currently available at, but previously sold at)
Aren't we all odd pieces?
Good point
yesssss
Vendetta against belts: my mother was a tailor and each time she worked with new patterns, she checked them out, only kept the interesting parts. I remember her saying "belt. They think I am dumb?"
She took it as a personal insult 😂
I never made the belts as I have no waist. I used that extra paper to make adjustments to the rest of the pattern.

Content about contents.
This video makes me content.
This is the first time in any TH-cam channel, or in real life, that I've ever seen a pattern piece stapled

I love that you can take something as mundane as trying to match up pattern pieces and make it fun.
I love seeing Steph wear the stuff she makes.
ABSOLUTELY and that dress iz so GORGEOUS 💚
I want that pattern!
Did she do a video on that dress? It’s so gorgeous ❤
@@MusingsByMelissa Yes, she did! I love watching the process; all the pieces coming together.
@@karenfrances I want so many of her vintage patterns

I have an excel sheet along with a photo gallery of mine so I can just look at my laptop and see what I have. It's saved my butt so many times
@10:21 - I also want my waist back🤣
Can I suggest something for your store? Do you think you can delist patterns that sold? It's a bit of a pain to have to go through a sea of things that sold to see what is for sale.
PLEASE!
Yay! I love finding out that patterns have all the pieces. It makes me so happy!
That was a really professional ad, Stephanie.

Yeah Tina 👏
This was really fun I enjoyed watching a lot ❤
I would put money on that stapled piece being the result of a small child with a stapler. 😁
I have a large Zip lock bag full of MIA pattern pieces.
My mother had the habit of putting different patterns in the wrong envelopes....
😅😊
That idea did cross my mind.
I'm guilty of liking the sleeves on one pattern, the neckline of another and the shape/body of a third. So after I make my frankengarment I put all the odd ball pattern pieces in one envelope. Sorry!
At this point I find myself wondering if an Ouija board might offer some insights…?

I love that colorful dress behind you
Her Inside Out 2 dress.
Tina is awesome
I’ve never been so excited to get these pattern pieces back to their homes
Love the dress you're wearing. Especially love the material used

Confession. This is one of my fav things to do. I loved doing this at my previous job
Nothing better than a complete pattern and being the one the makes that happen.

Me and my mom do this to my 1000 + patterns every 5 years. We go through each and every one and check if it is complete.
Yes there needs to be a FB page for missing pattern pieces.!!
I love your creations ….❤ Thanks for sharing with us all ❤
I want a pattern for Mc hammer pants for pj's
I know you really wanted to put more patterns back together, but the search was fun!
So satisfying! I for one, would LOVE a second video like this!
Love seeing you wearing dresses you made in other videos, it's like secret encouragement to DIY your dreams. Thank you, as always funny and educational.
As I sorted & pressed & checked the vintage patterns I bought, I found several lonely pieces. But where do the lonely pieces go to find their friends?
Oh there’s the beautiful rainbow in the background. I do absolutely love it and I really want a rainbow skirt in my life.
It's her Inside Out 2 dress video. Am I becoming a Stephanie expert? 😊

I've done this!
I bought a dress with a missing collar. I was watching at the edge of my seat hoping it would appear! 😂
This was soooo great!
Satisfying! 💖

Questions for you, I want to get two dresses made. Where can I get vintage fabric? Do you have any recommendations? @stephanie canada
I sell vintage fabrics at my website. www.backroomfinds.com
Not that it matters at all, but that hand drawn piece looks like a front midriff!
I was wondering if the piece of brown paper, without anything written on,is the other side of the collar, to the one of the dress. I think the dress was blue with a big white collar???
Mc Call's 3368
I have put Barbie patterns together. They're a lot easier. Still a feeling of exhilaration no matter how small the victory.
You’re hilarious!
How do you value vintage patterns for sale ?
If I recall correctly, in prior videos she has showed herself searching ebay or other sites to see what prices things have sold at (not currently available at, but previously sold at)
did you have to iron forever?
I thought you were chanting "Please don't be Bob pieces!" . cuz, ...ya know...
💜💜💜
One is better than none but I can understand your disappointment
i would rather watch a tiny mystery bag than ANYTHING....
