THANK YOU for properly praising George Kellgren! He IS brilliant and creative, making a whole series of innovative and revolutionary firearm designs. He did not get great respect only because he used more "plastic" (fiberglass impregnated polymer resin) than anyone else dared to, WAY before everyone else got on the bandwagon. I believe his first commercial design was the pocket backup pistol, the Grendel .380, in about 1986? It was revolutionary, a double action only internal magazine 10 rounder. A perfect police backup, it had no removable magazine to fall out, and no exterior levers or buttons to fumble with. It could even be topped-off with ammo from the TOP. Oddly, Kellgren has never patented his designs, preferring to keep busy making new ones! Several name-brand gun makers have directly copied his pistol designs and sold millions of them with only cosmetic changes---and no credit given to the original designer..........................elsullo

I owned one. It was pretty reliable, but it had a fair amount of recoil for a .380, and some pretty bad trigger slap. Kel-Tec has some great designs, but their execution is questionable.

What a cool little pistol. Love seeing old quirky stuff like this. Kel-Tec is a cool company, we need people who try to innovate like they do. It’s great to see them release what is essentially just prototypes to the public as well, they could just release one or two designs that are perfect but they put out all kinds of interesting guns. Say what you want about them but they are unique.

I have one that’s unfired, supposed to come with 2 mags but mine only had one. I’ve heard that you can modify a pmr 30 mag to work in it. Thanks for shooting yours for me to live vicariously through. I’ve also run a light bead of glue under the retention notch on my new PMR 30 pistol mags that very effectively helped them snug up vs the 1/8 in of play that’s typical. That greatly improved the feeding reliability. I’m going to check my Grendel for that sloppy fit. Of course there are aftermarket full overhaul kits for the PMR 30 now but the little magazine snug trick really improves feeding.

The fluted chamber was to aid in extraction under the higher pressures of 22wmr. Due to the length of the cartridge the spent casing hed to begin extraction under higher chamber pressure for a blowback system to work. The pmr30 if I remember correctly actually uses a delayed blowback system similar to a 92fs.

We all got USSR to thank for that "polymer" gun research, as they were the first to go into that field, the prototypes that never went into production were so advanced it's unreal, the TKB-022PM is as far as I know the lightest intermediate bullpup to this day.. Imagine if they had the polymer we have to day then.. Korobov would probably whip-up a 2 pound 5.45x39 assault rifle, and on top of the light weight the 22PM had a special design which greatly decreased recoil, so he didn't run into the usual issue of lightweight rifles.

Thanks for a cool video. I'd love one of these with the longer barrel. Of course, I really just want a CMR-30.

A Kel-Tec firearm of some stripe is still on my bucket list. If I were right-handed, I'd already have a Sub 2K!

Kel Tec, whether it's under that name or prior, definitely came up with and still do come out with some very interesting designs.

Sweet, I have a 6" .22 Auto-Mag. that function great if you use ammo rated 1875 FPS. Winchester .22 Mag. DynaPoints won't function it at 1575 FPS.

I had one of these got rid of it about 5 years ago it was finicky with ammo it would run CCI maxi mag 0059 30 grain HP+V and Hornady Critical Defense 45 grain Gold Dot short barrel 40 grain reliably would not run with anything else very reliably such as Armscor Remington Winchester Federal
