We have an extremely effective method of rodent control. It was not planned, but we have two adult Barn Owls continuously patrolling our property. It all started when two baby Barn Owls fell out of their nest and into our yard. They were so young they couldn't fly at all. Our dog wanted to attack them. We brought them into our house (guest bathroom) and raised them until they could fly and then let them go. We incorrectly assumed we'd never see them again. The very next night they came back and just sat in a tree - staring down at us. I'm guessing they imprinted on us and our property. That was a year ago and we still have not seen one rodent. All we see are the pellets the owls spit out after eating a rodent. They still stand in that tree and stare down at us. We can hear them patrolling at night.
They imprinted & they love you. But they are owls, so live in 🌳 trees, I feel it's harmless, as long as they can protect themselves, from predators, & weather conditions, apparently they were able to learn to live on their own, very well. All is well, that ends well.
Paid an exterminator $1275 to eliminate ONE rat who found its way into the house. They sealed up all the pathways into the house but all they did to kill the rat was put down sticky traps. The rat wouldn't go near them, so tonight I tried the Slim Jim and peanut butter combo on a Victor trap and within a half hour I had the bastard
@@thatguyluis there was a bunch of places where they were getting in the house from under the foundation and a nest under a tub they removed. They did a great job sealing up the house, not so great at killing the rats.
My mother-in-law called me an “inhumane cave man” when she saw me killing them with the spring traps so I changed my method. Now I trap them and later humanely ralease them on her back yard. After she saw a few moseying around the garage her humanity went out the door and the hypocrite immediately called the exterminator.
Spring traps are really the most effective way to deal with rats. Your jackanapes won't be so funny if you end up giving your mother in law the plague, or other diseases that rats can spread.

I saw this video 5 days ago when nothing was working for me. I saw mouse droppings every day on the stove. I tried baking soda recipe as my last resort and it worked great. I didn't see droppings the next day. I checked it for next 2 days but there wasn't any dropping any more. I feel so happy that I came across this video and it worked for me. Thank you guys for sharing it !
@@007nadineL Yes, I did that first. Entry points was in the garage. There was a hole where they were coming from. I closed it with caulk. Since then, I haven't seen any dropping in the garage as well.
Adding steel wool to a hole is supposed to work as supposedly they don’t like chewing through it. I’ve done it, never saw the hole reopened, but I don’t know it’s a real thing from a one off experience
As a last resort I used the baking soda method with huge success. The rats avoided all the other traps. They didn't take the flour & baking soda recipe, but when I swapped the flour for same quantity bread crumbs, they devoured the lot. Over a period of 5 days replenishing the bait, all the rats disappeared. I suspect I had about 6 rats and a couple of mice ( as observed on a night cam). These rats were burrowing under a shed floor slab, and harassing our dogs. They were industrious diggers creating a huge mess. They had to go.
No smell at all. I think they returned to their nest and expired there. Zero rat activity after the 5 days (confirmed by camera and dogs no longer barking at the 'visitors').
Hi from Vic (Au), no, just dry! The camera confirmed they had a taste for it! I didn't have much on the plate- maybe a few dessert spoons. I did prepare probably a couple of cups full.
I had rats tunnel under the house and chewed a hole in the concrete floor to get into the house. Traps didn't work and they refused to eat the poison. I took 1 cup of plaster of paris, 1 cup of corn meal and a packet of instant hot chocolate mix. Placed saucers of the mixture in various parts of the house, and in 3 days every rat was gone.
I used baking soda on the kitchen, both 1st and 2nd floor and my basement, where they chew on walnuts.It's the third day and I still don't see results, nor the rats are eating the soda with the flour and sugar... I am still hearing scratching on the second floor and activity on the basement. There must been atleast 8 of those bastards,and if the baking soda doesn't work,I will lay some traps or I will be glad to give me some advices.

However I dropped a few glue traps, and in the middle I put chocolate and peanut butter as bait and only after 2 days I caught 7 of those bastards. And the better news was that it was the parents mice. Only one baby was left, but my dog catch it(yeah, Belgian Malinois, they are crazy fast) so now I can sleep and eat in peace! I was feeling so miserable when I heard scraching, chewing and these stupid sqilueaks they make. I have to seal the kitchen's pipe, because they were entering from there.
Oh my goodness...I did exactly what you said with the Baking SODA and Flour and they ate it immediately...and at the same time I got a big V trap set with Slim Jim lightly smeared in peanut butter...within an hour I heard the trap snap. Done! I only had one creature to my knowledge since I live in a small ground-level apt. Thank you so much!
I almost never comment on videos but, I just had to on this one. I know this video is for rats. I have or had a mouse problem. I followed the slim jim and peanut butter advice for an extremely elusive mouse that has been avoiding every trap that I laid out. I adjusted the metal part to make it more sensitive just like the video said and it hasn’t even been a 24 hours and I caught the little monster. Thank You so much gentlemen. What a great way to bring in the new year!
my mouse is called houdini.. i tried every trap, even caught its babies, but not houdini, i have 25 traps in kitchen. nothing. tried bucket method but i gave up. it was impossible to train them to walk up the ramp.
@@mjkay8660 I put a very, very thin trail of peanut butter in dashes on my ramp and smeared a bunch right above the waterline, then sprinkled sunflower seeds on top of the water. I got a lot more than I hoped for! I got adults and babies, mice that I knew about and a roof rat that I didn't know about.
Difficult to comprehend freakin’ out about inhumane rat disposal. They carry disease, defecate in your house and bite humans. The plaster of Paris AND the baking soda sound appropriate, to me. Great job, Fellas. Grace and Peace

@@plantodemania i can see your point and somewhat agree the baking power method sounds a bit cruel - but i see it this way - my rats are invading my chipmunk boroughs and eating their stored food and peanuts, the rats are eating their baby pups without mercy and even eating the chipmunks alive - that is also not humane - so best to get rid of them with a least pain and misery as possible after all God created rats for a purpose - but they can do their purpose somewhere else not in my backyard - eating my chipmunks
Flour, Baking Soda, Sugar, and two cups of bird seed with sunflower seeds. Put on paper plate at dusk. All gone in the morning. After1 week later less rats, 2 weeks later 1 or 2 seen… less rodents seen in morning hours. Thinking of adding plaster with flour, and adding the bird seed too. I put out a plate full every night too. I’ve got 5 plates in yard.
Tried the baking soda, flour and sugar mixture. Set it out where we saw droppings and activity and it worked perfectly! Still going to try the plaster of paris mixture too just for added measure. Thank you so much for the video.
Hi Guys, I enjoy your channel. I live in a community on the top of a heavily wooded mountain in very rural America. We have farm animals which draw a lot of rats. I finally got tired of the damage that was occurring so I purchased a 24 hr recording night vision security camera and setup cameras all around the animals and my trailer. The first night showed how big of a rat problem I was dealing with. During the course of the night I counted well over 20 rats scurrying around my chickens and front porch. I decided to use baking soda, corn meal and peanut butter. I made varied sized bait balls and also had a large pan with just the corn meal and BS. I put a camera facing the bait pan so I could see what was happening. What I saw next was amazing. Each night I saw fewer rats running around. Now 2 weeks later I see 1 or 2 rats a night and each night it looks like different rats. This is an effective and quick way of eliminating large rat populations. They keep coming back to the bait regardless of seeing their dead comrades. I say start with this mix and save your money. If this method does not work your in bigger trouble than you know. Best part of this mix is it is NON TOXIC to other animals except rats.
Great story. The baking soda/corn meal/peanut butter balls are very effective-but one additional thing I do. Make sure you use latex rubber gloves when you prepare the balls, rats are clever and very sensitive to odors. If they detect human odor on the balls some of them won't partake. These little things make a big difference in the effectiveness. Peace.
One thing I have observed about the old school Victor snap traps is that they work a lot better if you screw them to a wider piece of wood. This prevents the flying recoil that occurs that rats can dodge. Also, if they are standing on the wider piece of wood, they provide more hold down for the trap. The only thing that moves is the wire bail.
Great tip! i've also been doing that to all my traps i use old pallet scrap boards, also make's it easier to handle and place the trap since your holding the board and not the trap, i also add 2 nail's as kill spikes about a inch from the edge so they cant pull themselves out of the sprung trap.
great info. I find it absurd that companies that make these products don't make it a better design (it's like they don't even field test the products". I am already spending hundreds of dollars on all kinds of traps for mice/rats, with mixed success/fail. I bought the bucket lid trap and electric trap (both failed and I am already have ideas on how it can be designed better). If I was younger and had some capital, I would start a business designing better traps. The glue traps do work well, but I find them inhumane (as the mice will live a period while stuck on the trap). Just wish i could find a more foolproof trap. Even the baking soda method, and poison pellets Rat-X and Tomcast, hasn't worked.
Great info with the plaster and baking powder. Also for mechanical traps an old timer who was also a biologist turned me on to wiring the bait on. So if you wrapped a thin wire around that slim Jim and then put the peanut butter over the wire, the bait will be more difficult to get off resulting in a higher percentage of kills, but also there is a high probability that their teeth will get caught in the wires... And WHAMMO!!!. again, not humane but you can't have these vermin in your house. Rats aren't the time to be a tree hugger...
These guys are awesome!! I used rat x for a week and a half and it didn’t do squat. I tried the baking soda and flour but the rat didn’t take it but the rat trap with slim Jim and peanut butter WORKED the first night. Thanks for helping me get rid of this pest.
I replaced the flour with fine plain bread crumbs like someone else commented, added a little water to roll it into balls and sprinkled sugar on the outside. All 20 balls were gone by morning
I watched your video yesterday after struggling for 22 days with a rat on my kitchen. I plugged all holes and bought the big traps and I got him! I forgot the slim Jim but I used a piece of fresh pet dog food and butter. Thank you so much!
So my mom has had a mice problem that was getting out of control since they don’t make the stronger D-con anymore. I tried everything Tom Cat, Ramik, which was just feeding them. The glue traps, mice traps was a hit or miss. So I found out about the Plaster of Paris remedy. I used flour, baking soda, plaster of Paris and their favorite Chocolate coco. The first few nights they ran through it, the powder was for sure tampered with and they were enjoying it. By the third night no evidence of them at all, no poop, the plaster of Paris mixed wasn’t touched. I keep my fingers cross that this keep working because I feel like whoever took the good poison off the market want these filthy disease infested rodents to take over. Who can worry about a humane way when these things are just nasty, nothing is cute at all about them. I want to thank you for this video.
The "good" poison was killing dogs, cats, rabbits, other useful and important to ecology animals, including the rats and mice. Not good. Destroy the high volume of rats and mice, not other animals. I put my flour mixture inside open plastic milk crates with bricks on top. That way only the big rats and little mice can fit through to get to the mix.
I caught two mice in my apartment recently. I used glue traps and traditional snap traps. My security camera showed the first mouse getting caught on a glue trap but also showed that the other mouse was deliberately avoiding and running around the glue traps. About five days later the cameras showed the second mouse getting caught in one of the snap traps. The combination was definitely needed, rodents have an uncanny instinct for danger. No more mice on the cameras for several weeks now so hopefully they are gone.
Trapping and releasing a mouse in the wild doesn't work. I learned it the hard way. Rodents are smart. If you trap one and don't kill it: - it would learn from its mistake; - it will never fall again in that trap; - it will teach the other rodents not to fall in that trap and; - they will come back in force now. If you trap a rodent, kill it! I didn't want to do it for human reasons, the mice thanked me by destroying my expensive food supply and my house. Kill them! It's a matter of survival!!!

@@thunderkss2343 Mix that plaster man! I made peanut butter cookies: plaster, flower, peanut butter and sugar! Just the regular recipe with peanut butter added and they loved it! The whole thing was over in a week, dead rodents all over the place, luckily they never got into my house! Now, if I could only convince my next door idiot/neighbor to use his garbage container...
Great video, thanks for the info it's much appreciated. I had no luck with the Victor traps in my salt room where I keep hides for tanning an old timer gave me some advise . He said that rats are smarter than mice and a lot of times they'll stay away from the traps if it has a human scent on it. So I put the traps in boiling water, used tongs to retrieve them, then baited and set them with latex gloves. Within 24 hours I got 3 rats on 3 traps, it worked great.
I have found that using Baking Soda, Pancake Mix, a little sugar, a small portion of Plaster of Paris, and a small container of water to the side is doing the trick. Mice were everywhere. It got to the point where no matter where I looked there was one running to the other side of the room and it was starting to get worse and worse. Soon they were all over the house. it took several days but now it appears that this setup worked after all. I got a package of those disposable small plates and placed them everywhere in the house. You could see how disturbed the contents on the plate became and knew that they were indeed eating this away. Then out of nowhere, it got silent. It worked! Now I have to get under the house and use bigger plates under there from the back to the front. I'm not sure how long this will last but for now, it has worked for me.
30 years ago our house was built in what was an open field. We had little field mice everywhere. At the time I got off from work at 11pm and would look under the house to see the shiny eyes. I set a small mouse trap with peanut butter bait under the house and was amazed that a mouse ran up to it while I watched and ate the peanut butter without setting the trap off. I thought about it while I was at my job and brought some heavy string home from work. I wrapped the string around the trigger and rubbed the peanut butter into the string and then placed the trap back under the house. The bold mouse ran up to the trap and started to chew and pull at the string. BANG I got him. After that, I got a whole lot of traps and did the same thing. No more mice in 30 years.
I just tried something similar. Super glue a few sunflower seeds to the trigger. Now I'm catching mice and rats with rat traps. It might benefit from adjusting the trigger, but I haven't had it fail yet, and tuning rat traps makes me nervous...
They are getting super clever too, I was leaving flour, sugar and peanut butter mixed with baking soda and I came home and found 8 little cakes baked with a tiny note saying "enjoy"!
Thanks so much! We have a summer cabin in CO and it's gotten to where I hate to arrive each year to face the droppings and damage done over the winter. We put out traps but it's difficult to know how many to put out to catch them all. I don't like doing poison in case they go outside to die and something eats them and is poisoned. Due to the fact that they carry disease and I don't like their poop all over my dishes and silverware, I'm definitely trying the flour and baking soda. Our cat brought one in through her pet door in our TX home. It took 6 weeks to catch it. In the meantime, it had chewed the water line to our dishwasher causing a flood and nested in the insulation of our stove which stunk to high heaven. I'm over being humane. Can't wait to try this method!
Good god , thats the same thing! Covid time something happened. Same thing happening around my location too! Something in them suddenly exploded and they are JUST SO BOLD from that april 2020 onwards. I really wonder how. Thank god i read this, was thinking im thinking strange. I have two young cats that have learned that when they catch mice, they take the critters to the bathtub to play with them. I come along with lots of praise and a can of their favorite cat food as a thank you. While they're eating, I scoop up the nasty little things (the mice, not the cats) with an old accordion style plunger (they just run in because it looks like a dark hidey hole) and drop them into the tall trashcan outside! Happy kitties, happy mouse free house! Will try the flour/plaster mix at my sister's house, tho. She lives just off a drainage ditch and has a lazy cat and what sounds like a big ol' rat. I have a mobile home and they could just dig their way in under the skirting. I finally got rid of mice/rats digging their way in with "1 Million Scoville" pepper extract. I did not dilute it. I poured it into an oil & vinegar dispenser, the kind you use at the table. I circled my trailer with gravel, then poured a bead of the Scoville next to the skirting. I kept an eye out for new digs and filled the digs and generously applied more Scoville. Additionally, I poured the Scoville on the floor underneath cabinet drawers, between the range and the wall, and any other areas where I saw activity. I have now gone without seeing any droppings, sightings or scratching for months now. This is despite cold weather which always draws them in. Additionally, my front and back porch (both are exterior porches) are now rodent free. I drizzled the Scoville anywhere they felt safe & comfortable hiding. The product causes pain but does not kill the critter. The product also worked to stop larger critters from nesting under our barn. One hole that was always re-dug within a few days of our filling it has now been plugged with just gravel on which we poured the Scoville. The product works great to prevent re-entry.
RODENT BAIT RECIPES: BAKING SODA - 1 part baking soda (not baking powder) - 1 part flour (or breadcrumbs as suggested by @Peter van der Burg) - a few spoonfuls of sugar to help the medicine go down PLASTER OF PARIS 6:20 - 1 part Plaster of Paris - 1 part flour - 1 part sugar - maybe some chocolate chips so they can enjoy their last meal Make cookie-dough texture. Was that right?
We do this in Romania: You need: a plate/plank of wood/flat surface, a bowl, a walnut with a toothpick inserted halfway in it and some bread or solid food You put the bowl on the flat thing you chose and balance it (the bowl) on the walnut. Then you put bread or smth else that is hard to remove on the part of the toothpick that is sticking out of the walnut. The toothpick with the food should be under the bowl, so when the rodent comes to eat it, it moves the walnut so the bowl falls on them. Yk my explanation is bad but whatever, English is not my first language:)
My dad used to make rabbit traps using that principle--wood box, stick holdin one side up, string to food. Rabbit gets food pulls string, box falls and traps rabbit or squirrel. Supper!
I use plaster of Paris and a hot cocoa mix with marshmallows. About a 50/50 mix. Put in a small saucer on the floor of my garden shed. Next to it I place a small saucer of anti freeze. The mice eat the mix and then drink the anti freeze. The shed is locked so no pets or wildlife can have access. No more mice!
I'm going to mark this recipe down. Thanks. I've used anitfreeze with peanut butter sandwiches. It killed many but for some reason, I feel they became immune to it.
I am going to try the baking soda mix today. I'm at my wit's end. I saw one on my kitchen counter practicing it's Christmas play. They are darling little guests but they have outstayed they're welcome. They party all night even waking me up. Wish me luck.
You men are on point!!!!! I tried everything and spent thousands in past years with all sorts of rat traps. Nothing works as good as the baking soda, sugar and flour mix. How long did it take to kill the rats with baking soda or Plaster of Paris? 2nd day here using Plaster of Paris and it looks like the rat is eating the Plaster of Paris flour and sugar and water nearby.

Before i sealed my holes,I put rat poison in the hole,then I put a wire mesh in with it and then sealed the hole. I sanitized the house and when I mopped I use peppermint oil for three days. Within those 3 days I found a mouse in the laundry room dead in the middle of the floor.
Poison killed that mouse. The other vid was using gallons of ammonia, hanging dozens soaked rags in attached garage for mo. She was soon hospitalized for lung damage since she didn’t wear proper mask & ammonia smell entered her home. Luckily her grandson came, did full exclusion & trapping, resolving mice problem.
I took copper wire mesh smashed it in the whole. Then took stainless steel mesh plate over the top. Then put the tom cat glue traps over the top of that. Then stacked a few of those glue traps over eachother. So to get thru the hole they would have to eat copper mesh, Stainless steel and glue traps PLUS i spray tom cat rodent sealant foam over the top. Few days later the rats started chewing holes in my seats and seat belt fastners in my brand new cadillac that i store in my garage. Car is fucking air tight as its new i have no clue how tf they are getting in. I'm literately starting to go crazy....Putting cats or snakes in the attic is the only thing that seems like a logically way of getting rid of them after all cats are the worlds first pest control for rats....
This is a temporary but effective remedy. Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar. Before leaving the kitchen (if this is the area needing attention) spray counters and leave them wet. Don't wipe the vinegar away, don't dilute it. Be sure to give them a good spraying. You will have a clean counter space in the morning. I don't have a dishwasher, so I spray the rack where the water drips. This is very helpful for me.
When using victor snap rat traps, put the snap spring bar end inside the narrow end of a rectangle butter tub so they can only access the bait end. Set the butter tub with the narrow end on the ground/surface. This way the snap bar has free swing without touching the butter tub. The butter tub is a shield to keep the rat off the wrong end. This gets them every time. A rat won't go back to a trap that flings them because they went for the bait from the snap spring side. I cut a piece of wire mesh to secure bait to the trigger, that way they set it off with soft licks as they eat the bait, peanut butter on half a cracker. The butter tub also cradles the trap when being placed so it don't snap you, LOL. Just don't forget to check them every morning, or you will have a stinking mess and flies in a week or two.
Great tips. @6:22 these are poison that don't pass on to the food chain unlike Stricknine. Effective and not harmful to birds and other animals. I've learned a lot from your videos.
@@stellabastoneintoronto955 Stricknine is designed for secondary poisoning. The rat feels sick, retreats to what is to him a safe place: his nest. He consequently dies, and his corpse is eaten by his siblings/mate/parents/offspring. They then die and so on. The poisoning effect carries on for a number of stages before it is diluted so much it becomes inert. The stricknine chemicals are throughout the animal's body whereas the plaster and baking soda stay in the stomach. If the contents of the rat's stomach are not eaten then the birds and other wildlife will not be affected. But stricknine really does wreck havoc among wildlife. The real problem, though, is getting the rats to eat the poison (whether it be stricknine or a homemade mix like this video recommends) in the first place! The term Neo-Phobia was invented just to describe the extreme cautiousness of rats to something new. They are a curse ! Constant struggle to get rid of.

I learned from my grandpa to use: Powdered sugar & powdered plaster of Paris. Mix thoroughly, equal parts & then put in attic & basement in old jar lids.
PROPS, Guys, first time viewing this channel! In my house (NY), I'll typically hear scratching in the ceiling (no attic etc., so no access). I did cut out a small rectangle in the corner for a plastic access panel, and removed a bit of insulation so the mice potentially have access to whatever I place on the back of that hatch door (glue trap, electric zapper etc.) LOL, my issue is pulling down the hatch door and whatever is on the trap (glue snapper), falls off right onto me - hence I haven't set anything up except the first time (caught a bunch of spiders, no mice...) My issue w/the poison is mice dying and _decaying_ in my ceiling and behind walls; I had a mouse die behind my dish washer last winter (why I don't know), and when in the kitchen, I kept smelling something "there MUST be a dead mouse in here somewhere!?.." - sure enough, I pulled out the fridge, nothing, pulled out the washer and there it was - ugh... I have two electronic zappers, one large, the other smaller - my issues with those is the mouse crawl in there gets zapped and dies and the damm units don't register a capture - the large one is supposed to beep and flash, the 2nd one just flashes, but it flashes so slowly you literally have to stand and LOOK for about 10-seconds to see if something is caught - I usually just shine a flashlight into them - smdh... I ordered two more smaller electronic ones that supposedly use a laser to accurately identify when something goes in - I'm looking forward to those... Seeing this video, I'm thinking a snap trap setup you suggested may be best for my ceiling access panel - but unless I hear it, I won't know if anything was caught.
Box of baking soda and box of Jiffy Cornbread muffin mix. (Total cost under $2) Mix completely then put about 1/4 cup in a plastic sandwich container with the lid on and a hole cut in the side big enough for the rodent to enter. Place in garages, storage sheds, etc and around your yard. Gets them before they come inside. Every 3-6 months, open container and shake out contents onto the lawn and replace with fresh mix. I used to buy one of the 18# buckets of "rat feed" every year. Baking soda and muffin mix has worked awesome!
I did this this year and it's super effective. I also used really big sticky board's and that cought them all. With the plaster I added cheddar cheese popcorn seasoning
Glue traps work great for me. The Slim Jim idea is great! I've found mice have a strange habit of drowning in my 5 gallon buckets of used motor oil. Why apologize for what you just plain have to do- kill the buggers!
I have a bucket half full of water in my basement and a little diving board for them. I put peanut butter on the edge and it can’t support their weight. They drown , rinse and repeat

Hey guys, first I want to say " just how much I love your vids, twins! You guys make me laugh && you're just so cute!" .. Next, I watched a vid that a farmer used everything you did except for the bait he used dry chicken noodle soup .. Plaster of Paris, Flour, equal parts and he just mixes it in a big box, or a small tote and adds a few packs of the soup mix .. He says they love it .. He doesn't make it into balls either .. He leaves it dry and scoops some mixture and puts in old food plastic containers w/lids, cuts holes in the side, large enough for them to go in and out .. Anyway, he showed the next morning, there were dead rats everywhere !! .. He had tried it all and this was the one that worked for him! xx
Put a few screws in the victor trap so they are sticking up out of the wood on the bait side . The rat will catch its head if it try’s to pull away when it springs also attached to a bigger wood base it is more stable and the catch / kill rate is better
I use 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of plaster of paris, Lipton cup of soup mix, not the whole packet, but make sure you got some dry noodles and some seasoning mix. The whole packet can make three batches. I give it a quick mix dry with an old spoon I have in my greenhouse. I use those cheap leftover containers without the lid. Set a couple those out in my greenhouse to make sure mixture doesn’t get wet, restock them with fresh mix whenever necessary. Keep the ‘human’ smell off your setups, makes rodents suspicious, they are smarter than you think. I do a little backyard
I do a little backyard farming and my compost draws them, plus there’s housing developments going on not far away and that stirs them up as well. It works good. Do it regularly or even ongoing until you see no more disturbance or consumption of the mix
You guys are life savers… We didn’t have an infestation, however we DID have a single rat that I swear, took absolute joy in messing with us… it was doing my head in… THANK YOU 🙏🏼
They can drive you nuts. We had a few, not sure how many. May have even been only one. Had an outfit come in and set up a bunch of traps-snap traps, tunnel traps, you name it. I even bought and set out a couple Zap! traps that are supposed to electrocute them. We had a couple snap at night, but they didn't catch the rat(s). Rats are clever and nimble of foot. The Zap! traps were useless, they must give off a noise that bothers rats-they wouldn't go near them even with baiting them with peanut butter/chocolate. Finally we curry combed the house for ANY sign of food (they loved dog kibble and biscuits, those are now sealed tight!) and then set out the baking soda mixes. Within a few days, no more scratching at night and almost no sign. This is the only thing that worked.
We have a small camper and have tried EVERYTHING suggested under the sun and they still came. So my husband set up traps with peanut butter and placed them in small boxes (smaller than a shoe box) with one end open, like a small flap where they go in.. This seems to work in trapping them and without any mess to clean up because all he does is close the end of the box up after they go in and are killed and he then disposes the box. ..Only trouble is it doesn’t stop them from coming so you have to be diligent,
I had a rat hanging around the side of my house. I tried the snap traps to no avail. Tried the glue traps and it roll violently around and got out of it. So I made chocolate delights. 1 part baking soda, sugar, coconut flakes, flour and just enough water to make sticky cookies. I placed them outside and waited. The next morning one was gone. A day later another was gone. On the third day (by now the ants were enjoying the mixture) i found a huge rat. His sides looked blown out. I gave a proper sendoff to the trash can. That night I peered out my window at dusk and there was the smaller rat feasting on some figs from my neighbors tree. Well I set a snap trap and left it covered with leaves in the area I'd seen it run. 3 weeks later I found the snap trap with the rat in sideways and dead. The End. Oh, and recently I found a rat in my car. My neighbor said he did also. So out with the peppermint oil and parking the car in a different spot.
When I set my traps I take cotton filler from an old pillow or dog toy and wrap it around the metal bait catch. Then I use a cheap oily natural peanut butter and make sure I get that oil to saturate the cotton. The idea is for that mechanical connection so they tug and snap. I love the slim Jim idea. Same principle. Cotton is nice because I can leave on there and drizzle the oily peanut butter back onto the trap and reset.
Got a little more than a hundred bux invested. He avoids the snap traps like the plague!! He works out with the glue traps & he LOVES Knoll Pasta Sides!! He seems to favor Creamy Chicken &/or Alfredo with Broccoli. I swapped the "Pasta" With "Pellets" No luck. Then I mixed some "Bromethalin" with the "Special Sauce"!! The Bromethalin is supposed to work within eight hrs!! My Kitchen resembles a minefield!! I'm waiting for Jane Fonda & Bono to picket my house!! I Finally put out the Flour/Plaster of Paris!! If it doesn't work by tomorrow, I'm doing the Cornmeal/Baking Soda!! If THAT Doesn't work, I'm getting a cat!! Preferably a Siamese!!

We had mice. I used a commercial bait and I believe that killed them; I think at least one of them took it back to the nest to share it. Then I bought three of those electronic devices you plug in the walls. I also put out some cut paper towels scented with either peppermint, clove or vinegar in areas I know they'd been in. I've just ordered some Vet-choice cedarcide (which is 90% cedar oil) and I'm going to spray the wood or baseboards seasonally. I think this will be great on other unwanted guests as well. 👍
Used flour, plaster of Paris and dry Ranch Dressing mix as an attractant in my storage shed and workshop where mice and rats were running amok. Placed about two tablespoons in about a dozen water bottle bottoms I had cut to a length of 3 inches or so to use a cheap bait cups. A week after the potion was distributed......zero rodent activity......none. For one week there was no evidence that this was working and I was wondering if I'd been punked, but on day seven all rodent activity collapsed to ZERO. Rodent free for two weeks now. Thank You Guys! When humid conditions return to my area I will switch to a baking soda bait since the plaster of Paris will eventually set up in our super-humid area.
I've used plaster and oatmeal for years, 50/50 mix. I can see that they have eaten the mixture and it seems to keep the mice at bay. Never had a smell either, maybe the plaster is drying them out. This year it hasn't been as effective so thanks for the alternative mixtures.

I’ve have good success with the 5 gallon bucket and rolling pin trap, I like that it’ll trap multiple rodents without needing to be reset. To trap rats I’ve up-sized the concept to a 40 gallon trashcan and even electrified the rim of can and the rolling pin. (This was in a shop with intelligent adults that knew how NOT to electrocute themselves.)
I just bought 4 of those rolling pin traps. Trying them out tomorrow as have some rodents. We have a mice plague in country areas of Australia at the moment so I'll be ready if they come here. Also some farmers have been using swing top bins( as traps all sold out) covered in peanut butter the mice fall into bin filled with water.
I just set up 2 5-gal bucket traps outside by the foundation of my farmhouse. Wire-suspended spinning pop can with peanut butter over 4-5" of water. Every day at about 4pm I check the traps and use a 4" empty plastic plant pot from the garden center to dip up the dead mice. No rats at this point. If I feel ambitious, I dump the mice on the shoulder of my country road to feed vultures, crows, and eagles. No need to dump and keep refilling buckets Will also try the plaster method. Seems it's good to knock down the population before fall when they really want to move in.
Rats ARE very smart. I bought a doz. of the black jaw traps and they worked great for awhile. After awhile they wouldn't touch them for weeks, but to add insult to injury they figured out just where to chew on the back so that the trap would no longer set. There's a little catch on the back that holds it open. Once that is gone the trap is toast. So now I'm down to 9 and have moved on to bait stations.
Kwik krete and flower 1:1 worked great, I found if you put a small dish of water 10ft away it kills them faster. Bought an older shop that had been over run with rats/mice and in about two or three weeks they were gone.
After spending money on sticky traps, plastic rat traps, humane cage traps, bucket traps, I finally eradicated a very smart rat that had moved into my garage and was destroying my outdoor gear. After watching your videos I got him with the old school Victor traps with slim jim and peanut butter. I have videos of the rat setting off the modern traps, avoiding the sticky and cage traps and the coo de gra with the Victor trap. Wish I had a way to upload the short videos. Thanks for the help!! If you have some leftover hamburger, or bacon grease , melt some paraffin wax mix with the grease applie to trap trigger, let it harden set trap can use several times before rebaiting.
Have you guys tried peanut butter and dry cement mix for rats? My aunt said she got rid of a basement FULL of mice using that mix. When they drink the cement sets up and kills them, according to my aunt. So I wondered if y'all use that trick.
@@todnewkom7537 You only get one shot to activate the plaster. It needs to activate in the rat's belly. Activating it in a dough makes it inert and ineffective.
Told neighbor I caught 2 mice in my house. Then a rat outside my house with a black cat plastic trap, and another smaller mouse on a Victor rat trap. All he said was, I don't have any in my house.
I work with one of the most famous pest control companies, and when the snap traps are not working I use baking soda recipe and it works. I haven't try the plaster of Paris yet.
I had an invasion of mice in my chicken coop a few years ago. I tried the water bucket trap, spring traps and an auto resetting box trap. Caught a bunch of mice. But what REALLY worked was the new full auto air soft rifle with a laser and light that I got for my birthday. go out a few times a night and just lay waste to them buggers. Come morning the chickens would eagerly clean up the mess. After maybe two weeks of the hunt it got hard to find a mouse in the coop. All the traps were kept active also.
Hey guys, great video! I am currently dealing with a situation where I live. The rodents are not inside my cabin. It is a one room cabin, a modified garage. But at night they come out and I can hear them fighting, breeding, running around the base parameter, up on the roof. My landlord neighbor is a hoarder, and has a pile of wood they live in. I am losing sleep. I do not want to put poison down because we have owls and cats that hunt at night in our yard! I will try your suggestions. Any other ones would be always appreciated. Woop woop!
Since I am of Italian decent I used to use Genoa salami,greasy the better, cut it in small pieces and tie it to the trigger with thread. Worked for mice also.
I like the look of these two ideas that could help with my rat problem. At my home, both of my neighbours have always fed the wild birds in their gardens. Problem is that again we now have another rat problem. They go back and forth, through my garden to get to both bird feeders. My issue is , that I have a goldfish pond with lots of fish that are all different, so easy to notice if one disappears. About 2 months ago, I noticed one missing ,and just put it down to a mystery. But now I have just noticed another missing, and have learned that rats are more than happy to swim and catch pond fish. I did even see a rat problem in the pond about a month ago, but I just thought I may have startled it ,and it fell in. I'm convinced now that the rats are taking my fish and I need to stop this happening.
I purchased a $17 trap on Amazon, and installed a security camera on the bottom side of the access door to the crawlspace that is motion sensitive. I have so far caught four large rats and one small one. I’ve also trapped a couple small ones in the garage. Having great success. The security camera was $32 on Amazon so I have about a $50 investment. The app on my phone for the wise security camera notifies me. It’s been working great. It is a rental home so my landlord is arranging for someone to come out to seal up any possible access points.
I have tried the flour/plaster of Paris mixture and it works really well a 50/50 mix left dry and they just lick it up with the result you can imagine.

I had good luck with RAMIK GREEN, feed them every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. Did this in November and really don't hear any scratching anymore. The poison is an old type and sold at a farm supply in a 4-lb bag, not a retail product in sample packages. Just bagged a Norway in a conibear trap, putting out more bait and setting traps again to avoid any rats from moving in lol

I use one box of Jiffy Cornmeal mix and one box of baking soda..cheap and easy. I add in peanut butter if on hand. or a squirt of Hershey chocolate syrup and form small balls that allows them to carry them off if they like. I am concerned about using the plaster of paris in the mix that my dog or chickens will discover the mixture. I know the cornmeal and baking soda mixture is safe for the all other animals except horses.
Baking powder vs baking soda? Baking soda would react with the acis in their stomach, whereas the baking powder is either water-activiated or oven-heat-activated.

I tried all mentioned methods to no avail finally some strategically oil products and a match cleaned the whole house only down side is I had to use more than plaster to rebuild my house but no more rodents thank you twins one other problem was getting arrested for arson and my insurance did not cover the damage
I like the quick setting concrete with flower 50/50. I usually set a tote or 5gal bucket with a pie pan of water in it close with a ramp and they scurry into the container looking for water and it's easy clean up. The old school methods are imo more effective than the new baits/poisons.
Twin Home Experts I use string to tie the trap to an item close to the place of trap. This makes it easy to release the dead mouse in to plastic bag for disposal. My traps are made of plastic with a well for attractant from Lowes. They are very easy to set and release with one hand .

Years ago...My aunt bought a FL home from a daughter of an elderly lady with dementia. The house was cleaned but, first night we heard lots of noise in the walls. We panicked when we saw dozens of large rats. They were hugh and terrifying. Old Lady had neglected home facia board rotted and they made holes ce and went. We had never had this in NY so went to a DIY exterminator supply store and bought bait squares. Well they died quickly but..... They died in the walls creating brown goo stains and a stench from hell. It cost over $2000 to rip open walls re-sheetrock paint and fumigate. It still smelled for months we wound up selling. ❓ Which do we use baking soda or baking powder you said both? ❓If I use plaster or bkg powder what keeps them from dying in my walls now? The walls are hollow & rotted and I hear them gnawing and squeaking in exterior walls from outside and inside saw over 20 in one night coming in over kitchen cabinets from stove overhead vent a Hole they made. Please advise me. I'm scared my cats and dogs will be hurt they got the rat fleas and have bite wounds on mouth have killed and eaten 4 large ones and 4 teens but, house has many squealing babies I hear in my bedroom area. PLEASE ADVISE. I cannot relocate my pets or self as exterminator said we must. Should I fix walls now or after?
Thanks guys. I have an eaten golf bag-new I might add. We finally figure out RAT after putting camera in garage. Have not heard any scratching, etc. and believe me know about mice and rats, after living in NC. Ended up getting monthly exterminator there. W now live in MD and it is cold and farms are plowing fields. Just noticed stuff going on in garage! Chewed golf bag, then repaired, and came back from vacation to a wreath on wall that was on floor, and all the straw over the garage. My husband put camera in garage, and replaced my golf bag in garage, so last night this critter devoured my bag. No treats in it, just golf balls? Will try your methods and get back to you!!! Thanks!
Here's what we did to access the inside of walls where we had a rodent problem: We bought what is called an "old work" plastic electrical box, one designed to hold three switches and is called a triple. These are designed to be installed in existing walls and are secured by wings that extend out and tighten to secure the box to the wall board. We used a saw to remove the back of the box and then installed it in the wall near where we could hear rats running. We bought a "blank" cover, one with no holes for switches or outlets, to fit the box. We can take the blank cover off and set a trap inside the wall and secure the trap to the box with a wire or light chain, (this is important or the rat, if not killed immediately may drag the trap out of your reach and you'll have a stinking carcass in your wall). When you install the blank cover, it is very unobtrusive, it just looks like an electrical installation of some sort, but allows easy access to the inside of your wall without having to do any demolition. It gives permanent access in case they return.

We have an extremely effective method of rodent control. It was not planned, but we have two adult Barn Owls continuously patrolling our property. It all started when two baby Barn Owls fell out of their nest and into our yard. They were so young they couldn't fly at all. Our dog wanted to attack them. We brought them into our house (guest bathroom) and raised them until they could fly and then let them go. We incorrectly assumed we'd never see them again. The very next night they came back and just sat in a tree - staring down at us. I'm guessing they imprinted on us and our property. That was a year ago and we still have not seen one rodent. All we see are the pellets the owls spit out after eating a rodent. They still stand in that tree and stare down at us. We can hear them patrolling at night.

They imprinted & they love you. But they are owls, so live in 🌳 trees, I feel it's harmless, as long as they can protect themselves, from predators, & weather conditions, apparently they were able to learn to live on their own, very well.

Paid an exterminator $1275 to eliminate ONE rat who found its way into the house. They sealed up all the pathways into the house but all they did to kill the rat was put down sticky traps. The rat wouldn't go near them, so tonight I tried the Slim Jim and peanut butter combo on a Victor trap and within a half hour I had the bastard

@@thatguyluis there was a bunch of places where they were getting in the house from under the foundation and a nest under a tub they removed. They did a great job sealing up the house, not so great at killing the rats.
My mother-in-law called me an “inhumane cave man” when she saw me killing them with the spring traps so I changed my method. Now I trap them and later humanely ralease them on her back yard. After she saw a few moseying around the garage her humanity went out the door and the hypocrite immediately called the exterminator.

I saw this video 5 days ago when nothing was working for me. I saw mouse droppings every day on the stove. I tried baking soda recipe as my last resort and it worked great. I didn't see droppings the next day. I checked it for next 2 days but there wasn't any dropping any more. I feel so happy that I came across this video and it worked for me. Thank you guys for sharing it !

@@007nadineL Yes, I did that first. Entry points was in the garage. There was a hole where they were coming from. I closed it with caulk. Since then, I haven't seen any dropping in the garage as well.
Adding steel wool to a hole is supposed to work as supposedly they don’t like chewing through it. I’ve done it, never saw the hole reopened, but I don’t know it’s a real thing from a one off experience
As a last resort I used the baking soda method with huge success. The rats avoided all the other traps. They didn't take the flour & baking soda recipe, but when I swapped the flour for same quantity bread crumbs, they devoured the lot. Over a period of 5 days replenishing the bait, all the rats disappeared. I suspect I had about 6 rats and a couple of mice ( as observed on a night cam). These rats were burrowing under a shed floor slab, and harassing our dogs. They were industrious diggers creating a huge mess. They had to go.

Hi from Vic (Au), no, just dry! The camera confirmed they had a taste for it! I didn't have much on the plate- maybe a few dessert spoons. I did prepare probably a couple of cups full.
I had rats tunnel under the house and chewed a hole in the concrete floor to get into the house. Traps didn't work and they refused to eat the poison. I took 1 cup of plaster of paris, 1 cup of corn meal and a packet of instant hot chocolate mix. Placed saucers of the mixture in various parts of the house, and in 3 days every rat was gone.
so that means they like sweets

I used baking soda on the kitchen, both 1st and 2nd floor and my basement, where they chew on walnuts.It's the third day and I still don't see results, nor the rats are eating the soda with the flour and sugar...
I am still hearing scratching on the second floor and activity on the basement.
There must been atleast 8 of those bastards,and if the baking soda doesn't work,I will lay some traps or I will be glad to give me some advices.

However I dropped a few glue traps, and in the middle I put chocolate and peanut butter as bait and only after 2 days I caught 7 of those bastards. And the better news was that it was the parents mice. Only one baby was left, but my dog catch it(yeah, Belgian Malinois, they are crazy fast) so now I can sleep and eat in peace!

Oh my goodness...I did exactly what you said with the Baking SODA and Flour and they ate it immediately...and at the same time I got a big V trap set with Slim Jim lightly smeared in peanut butter...within an hour I heard the trap snap. I almost never comment on videos but, I just had to on this one. I know this video is for rats. I have or had a mouse problem. I followed the slim jim and peanut butter advice for an extremely elusive mouse that has been avoiding every trap that I laid out. I adjusted the metal part to make it more sensitive just like the video said and it hasn’t even been a 24 hours and I caught the little monster. Thank You so much gentlemen. my mouse is called houdini.. i tried every trap, even caught its babies, but not houdini, i have 25 traps in kitchen. nothing. tried bucket method but i gave up. it was impossible to train them to walk up the ramp.
@@mjkay8660 I put a very, very thin trail of peanut butter in dashes on my ramp and smeared a bunch right above the waterline, then sprinkled sunflower seeds on top of the water. I got a lot more than I hoped for! I got adults and babies, mice that I knew about and a roof rat that I didn't know about.

@@plantodemania i can see your point and somewhat agree the baking power method sounds a bit cruel - but i see it this way - my rats are invading my chipmunk boroughs and eating their stored food and peanuts, the rats are eating their baby pups without mercy and even eating the chipmunks alive - that is also not humane - so best to get rid of them with a least pain and misery as possible after all God created rats for a purpose - but they can do their purpose somewhere else not in my backyard - eating my chipmunks
Flour, Baking Soda, Sugar, and two cups of bird seed with sunflower seeds. Put on paper plate at dusk. All gone in the morning. After1 week later less rats, 2 weeks later 1 or 2 seen… less rodents seen in morning hours. Thinking of adding plaster with flour, and adding the bird seed too. I put out a plate full every night too. I’ve got 5 plates in yard.

Hi Guys, I enjoy your channel. I live in a community on the top of a heavily wooded mountain in very rural America. We have farm animals which draw a lot of rats. I finally got tired of the damage that was occurring so I purchased a 24 hr recording night vision security camera and setup cameras all around the animals and my trailer. The first night showed how big of a rat problem I was dealing with. During the course of the night I counted well over 20 rats scurrying around my chickens and front porch. I decided to use baking soda, corn meal and peanut butter. I made varied sized bait balls and also had a large pan with just the corn meal and BS. I put a camera facing the bait pan so I could see what was happening. What I saw next was amazing. Each night I saw fewer rats running around. Now 2 weeks later I see 1 or 2 rats a night and each night it looks like different rats. This is an effective and quick way of eliminating large rat populations. They keep coming back to the bait regardless of seeing their dead comrades. I say start with this mix and save your money. If this method does not work your in bigger trouble than you know. Best part of this mix is it is NON TOXIC to other animals except rats.
Great story. The baking soda/corn meal/peanut butter balls are very effective-but one additional thing I do. Make sure you use latex rubber gloves when you prepare the balls, rats are clever and very sensitive to odors. If they detect human odor on the balls some of them won't partake. These little things make a big difference in the effectiveness. Peace.
One thing I have observed about the old school Victor snap traps is that they work a lot better if you screw them to a wider piece of wood. This prevents the flying recoil that occurs that rats can dodge. Also, if they are standing on the wider piece of wood, they provide more hold down for the trap. The only thing that moves is the wire bail.
Great tip! i've also been doing that to all my traps i use old pallet scrap boards, also make's it easier to handle and place the trap since your holding the board and not the trap, i also add 2 nail's as kill spikes about a inch from the edge so they cant pull themselves out of the sprung trap.

great info. I find it absurd that companies that make these products don't make it a better design (it's like they don't even field test the products". I am already spending hundreds of dollars on all kinds of traps for mice/rats, with mixed success/fail. I bought the bucket lid trap and electric trap (both failed and I am already have ideas on how it can be designed better). If I was younger and had some capital, I would start a business designing better traps. The glue traps do work well, but I find them inhumane (as the mice will live a period while stuck on the trap). Just wish i could find a more foolproof trap. Even the baking soda method, and poison pellets Rat-X and Tomcast, hasn't worked.

Great info with the plaster and baking powder. Also for mechanical traps an old timer who was also a biologist turned me on to wiring the bait on. So if you wrapped a thin wire around that slim Jim and then put the peanut butter over the wire, the bait will be more difficult to get off resulting in a higher percentage of kills, but also there is a high probability that their teeth will get caught in the wires... And WHAMMO!!!. again, not humane but you can't have these vermin in your house. Rats aren't the time to be a tree hugger...

These guys are awesome!! I used rat x for a week and a half and it didn’t do squat. I tried the baking soda and flour but the rat didn’t take it but the rat trap with slim Jim and peanut butter WORKED the first night. Thanks for helping me get rid of this pest.
I replaced the flour with fine plain bread crumbs like someone else commented, added a little water to roll it into balls and sprinkled sugar on the outside. All 20 balls were gone by morning

I watched your video yesterday after struggling for 22 days with a rat on my kitchen. I plugged all holes and bought the big traps and I got him! I forgot the slim Jim but I used a piece of fresh pet dog food and butter. Thank you so much!
So my mom has had a mice problem that was getting out of control since they don’t make the stronger D-con anymore. I tried everything Tom Cat, Ramik, which was just feeding them. The glue traps, mice traps was a hit or miss. So I found out about the Plaster of Paris remedy. I used flour, baking soda, plaster of Paris and their favorite Chocolate coco. The first few nights they ran through it, the powder was for sure tampered with and they were enjoying it. By the third night no evidence of them at all, no poop, the plaster of Paris mixed wasn’t touched. I keep my fingers cross that this keep working because I feel like whoever took the good poison off the market want these filthy disease infested rodents to take over. Who can worry about a humane way when these things are just nasty, nothing is cute at all about them. I want to thank you for this video.
The "good" poison was killing dogs, cats, rabbits, other useful and important to ecology animals, including the rats and mice. Not good. Destroy the high volume of rats and mice, not other animals. I put my flour mixture inside open plastic milk crates with bricks on top. That way only the big rats and little mice can fit through to get to the mix.

I caught two mice in my apartment recently. I used glue traps and traditional snap traps. My security camera showed the first mouse getting caught on a glue trap but also showed that the other mouse was deliberately avoiding and running around the glue traps. About five days later the cameras showed the second mouse getting caught in one of the snap traps. The combination was definitely needed, rodents have an uncanny instinct for danger. No more mice on the cameras for several weeks now so hopefully they are gone.

Trapping and releasing a mouse in the wild doesn't work. I learned it the hard way. Rodents are smart. If you trap one and don't kill it:
- it would learn from its mistake;
- it will never fall again in that trap;
- it will teach the other rodents not to fall in that trap and;
- they will come back in force now.
If you trap a rodent, kill it! I didn't want to do it for human reasons, the mice thanked me by destroying my expensive food supply and my house. Kill them! It's a matter of survival!!!

The whole thing was over in a week, dead rodents all over the place, luckily they never got into my house! Now, if I could only convince my next door idiot/neighbor to use his garbage container...
Great video, thanks for the info it's much appreciated. I had no luck with the Victor traps in my salt room where I keep hides for tanning an old timer gave me some advise . He said that rats are smarter than mice and a lot of times they'll stay away from the traps if it has a human scent on it. So I put the traps in boiling water, used tongs to retrieve them, then baited and set them with latex gloves. Within 24 hours I got 3 rats on 3 traps, it worked great.

I have found that using Baking Soda, Pancake Mix, a little sugar, a small portion of Plaster of Paris, and a small container of water to the side is doing the trick.
Mice were everywhere. It got to the point where no matter where I looked there was one running to the other side of the room and it was starting to get worse and worse.
Soon they were all over the house. it took several days but now it appears that this setup worked after all. I got a package of those disposable small plates and placed them everywhere in the house. You could see how disturbed the contents on the plate became and knew that they were indeed eating this away. Then out of nowhere, it got silent. It worked! Now I have to get under the house and use bigger plates under there from the back to the front. I'm not sure how long this will last but for now, it has worked for me.
30 years ago our house was built in what was an open field. We had little field mice everywhere. At the time I got off from work at 11pm and would look under the house to see the shiny eyes. I set a small mouse trap with peanut butter bait under the house and was amazed that a mouse ran up to it while I watched and ate the peanut butter without setting the trap off. I thought about it while I was at my job and brought some heavy string home from work. I wrapped the string around the trigger and rubbed the peanut butter into the string and then placed the trap back under the house. The bold mouse ran up to the trap and started to chew and pull at the string. BANG I got him. After that, I got a whole lot of traps and did the same thing. No more mice in 30 years.

I just tried something similar. Super glue a few sunflower seeds to the trigger. Now I'm catching mice and rats with rat traps. It might benefit from adjusting the trigger, but I haven't had it fail yet, and tuning rat traps makes me nervous...

Thanks so much! We have a summer cabin in CO and it's gotten to where I hate to arrive each year to face the droppings and damage done over the winter. We put out traps but it's difficult to know how many to put out to catch them all. I don't like doing poison in case they go outside to die and something eats them and is poisoned. Due to the fact that they carry disease and I don't like their poop all over my dishes and silverware, I'm definitely trying the flour and baking soda. Our cat brought one in through her pet door in our TX home. It took 6 weeks to catch it. In the meantime, it had chewed the water line to our dishwasher causing a flood and nested in the insulation of our stove which stunk to high heaven. I'm over being humane. Can't wait to try this method!

I have two young cats that have learned that when they catch mice, they take the critters to the bathtub to play with them. I come along with lots of praise and a can of their favorite cat food as a thank you. While they're eating, I scoop up the nasty little things (the mice, not the cats) with an old accordion style plunger (they just run in because it looks like a dark hidey hole) and drop them into the tall trashcan outside! Happy kitties, happy mouse free house! Will try the flour/plaster mix at my sister's house, tho. She lives just off a drainage ditch and has a lazy cat and what sounds like a big ol' rat. I have a mobile home and they could just dig their way in under the skirting. I finally got rid of mice/rats digging their way in with "1 Million Scoville" pepper extract. I did not dilute it. I poured it into an oil & vinegar dispenser, the kind you use at the table. I circled my trailer with gravel, then poured a bead of the Scoville next to the skirting. I kept an eye out for new digs and filled the digs and generously applied more Scoville. Additionally, I poured the Scoville on the floor underneath cabinet drawers, between the range and the wall, and any other areas where I saw activity. I have now gone without seeing any droppings, sightings or scratching for months now. This is despite cold weather which always draws them in. Additionally, my front and back porch (both are exterior porches) are now rodent free. I drizzled the Scoville anywhere they felt safe & comfortable hiding. The product causes pain but does not kill the critter. The product also worked to stop larger critters from nesting under our barn. One hole that was always re-dug within a few days of our filling it has now been plugged with just gravel on which we poured the Scoville. The product works great to prevent re-entry.

We do this in Romania:
You need: a plate/plank of wood/flat surface, a bowl, a walnut with a toothpick inserted halfway in it and some bread or solid food
You put the bowl on the flat thing you chose and balance it (the bowl) on the walnut. Then you put bread or smth else that is hard to remove on the part of the toothpick that is sticking out of the walnut. The toothpick with the food should be under the bowl, so when the rodent comes to eat it, it moves the walnut so the bowl falls on them. Yk my explanation is bad but whatever, English is not my first language:)
My dad used to make rabbit traps using that principle--wood box, stick holdin one side up, string to food. Rabbit gets food pulls string, box falls and traps rabbit or squirrel. Supper!
These guys are being honest.
I use plaster of Paris and a hot cocoa mix with marshmallows. About a 50/50 mix. Put in a small saucer on the floor of my garden shed. Next to it I place a small saucer of anti freeze. The mice eat the mix and then drink the anti freeze. The shed is locked so no pets or wildlife can have access. No more mice!
I'm going to mark this recipe down. Thanks. I've used anitfreeze with peanut butter sandwiches. It killed many but for some reason, I feel they became immune to it.

Before i sealed my holes,I put rat poison in the hole,then I put a wire mesh in with it and then sealed the hole. I sanitized the house and when I mopped I use peppermint oil for three days. Within those 3 days I found a mouse in the laundry room dead in the middle of the floor.
Another person made a video and used very strong smelling stuff and put it everywhere on rags and hers were gone
Poison killed that mouse. The other vid was using gallons of ammonia, hanging dozens soaked rags in attached garage for mo. She was soon hospitalized for lung damage since she didn’t wear proper mask & ammonia smell entered her home. Luckily her grandson came, did full exclusion & trapping, resolving mice problem.
I took copper wire mesh smashed it in the whole. Then took stainless steel mesh plate over the top. Then put the tom cat glue traps over the top of that. Then stacked a few of those glue traps over eachother. So to get thru the hole they would have to eat copper mesh, Stainless steel and glue traps PLUS i spray tom cat rodent sealant foam over the top.
Few days later the rats started chewing holes in my seats and seat belt fastners in my brand new cadillac that i store in my garage. Car is fucking air tight as its new i have no clue how tf they are getting in. I'm literately starting to go crazy....Putting cats or snakes in the attic is the only thing that seems like a logically way of getting rid of them after all cats are the worlds first pest control for rats....

This is a temporary but effective remedy. Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar. Before leaving the kitchen (if this is the area needing attention) spray counters and leave them wet. Don't wipe the vinegar away, don't dilute it. Be sure to give them a good spraying. You will have a clean counter space in the morning. I don't have a dishwasher, so I spray the rack where the water drips. This is very helpful for me.
When using victor snap rat traps, put the snap spring bar end inside the narrow end of a rectangle butter tub so they can only access the bait end. Set the butter tub with the narrow end on the ground/surface. This way the snap bar has free swing without touching the butter tub. The butter tub is a shield to keep the rat off the wrong end. This gets them every time. A rat won't go back to a trap that flings them because they went for the bait from the snap spring side. I cut a piece of wire mesh to secure bait to the trigger, that way they set it off with soft licks as they eat the bait, peanut butter on half a cracker. The butter tub also cradles the trap when being placed so it don't snap you, LOL. Just don't forget to check them every morning, or you will have a stinking mess and flies in a week or two.

Stricknine is designed for secondary poisoning. The rat feels sick, retreats to what is to him a safe place: his nest. He consequently dies, and his corpse is eaten by his siblings/mate/parents/offspring. They then die and so on. The poisoning effect carries on for a number of stages before it is diluted so much it becomes inert. The stricknine chemicals are throughout the animal's body whereas the plaster and baking soda stay in the stomach. If the contents of the rat's stomach are not eaten then the birds and other wildlife will not be affected. But stricknine really does wreck havoc among wildlife.
The real problem, though, is getting the rats to eat the poison (whether it be stricknine or a homemade mix like this video recommends) in the first place! The term Neo-Phobia was invented just to describe the extreme cautiousness of rats to something new.
They are a curse ! Constant struggle to get rid of.

Powdered sugar & powdered plaster of Paris. Mix thoroughly, equal parts & then put in attic & basement in old jar lids.

In my house (NY), I'll typically hear scratching in the ceiling (no attic etc., so no access). I did cut out a small rectangle in the corner for a plastic access panel, and removed a bit of insulation so the mice potentially have access to whatever I place on the back of that hatch door (glue trap, electric zapper etc.)
LOL, my issue is pulling down the hatch door and whatever is on the trap (glue snapper), falls off right onto me - hence I haven't set anything up except the first time (caught a bunch of spiders, no mice...)
My issue w/the poison is mice dying and _decaying_ in my ceiling and behind walls; I had a mouse die behind my dish washer last winter (why I don't know), and when in the kitchen, I kept smelling something "there MUST be a dead mouse in here somewhere!?.." - sure enough, I pulled out the fridge, nothing, pulled out the washer and there it was - ugh...
I have two electronic zappers, one large, the other smaller - my issues with those is the mouse crawl in there gets zapped and dies and the damm units don't register a capture - the large one is supposed to beep and flash, the 2nd one just flashes, but it flashes so slowly you literally have to stand and LOOK for about 10-seconds to see if something is caught - I usually just shine a flashlight into them - smdh...
I ordered two more smaller electronic ones that supposedly use a laser to accurately identify when something goes in - I'm looking forward to those...
Seeing this video, I'm thinking a snap trap setup you suggested may be best for my ceiling access panel - but unless I hear it, I won't know if anything was caught.

Box of baking soda and box of Jiffy Cornbread muffin mix. (Total cost under $2) Mix completely then put about 1/4 cup in a plastic sandwich container with the lid on and a hole cut in the side big enough for the rodent to enter. Place in garages, storage sheds, etc and around your yard. Gets them before they come inside. Every 3-6 months, open container and shake out contents onto the lawn and replace with fresh mix. I used to buy one of the 18# buckets of "rat feed" every year. Baking soda and muffin mix has worked awesome!
I did this this year and it's super effective. I also used really big sticky board's and that cought them all. With the plaster I added cheddar cheese popcorn seasoning

Glue traps work great for me. The Slim Jim idea is great! I've found mice have a strange habit of drowning in my 5 gallon buckets of used motor oil. Why apologize for what you just plain have to do- kill the buggers!
I have a bucket half full of water in my basement and a little diving board for them. I put peanut butter on the edge and it can’t support their weight.

Hey guys, first I want to say " just how much I love your vids, twins! You guys make me laugh && you're just so cute!" .. Next, I watched a vid that a farmer used everything you did except for the bait he used dry chicken noodle soup .. Plaster of Paris, Flour, equal parts and he just mixes it in a big box, or a small tote and adds a few packs of the soup mix .. He says they love it .. He doesn't make it into balls either .. He leaves it dry and scoops some mixture and puts in old food plastic containers w/lids, cuts holes in the side, large enough for them to go in and out .. Anyway, he showed the next morning, there were dead rats everywhere !! .. He had tried it all and this was the one that worked for him! xx

Put a few screws in the victor trap so they are sticking up out of the wood on the bait side . The rat will catch its head if it try’s to pull away when it springs also attached to a bigger wood base it is more stable and the catch / kill rate is better
I use 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of plaster of paris, Lipton cup of soup mix, not the whole packet, but make sure you got some dry noodles and some seasoning mix. The whole packet can make three batches. I give it a quick mix dry with an old spoon I have in my greenhouse. I use those cheap leftover containers without the lid. Set a couple those out in my greenhouse to make sure mixture doesn’t get wet, restock them with fresh mix whenever necessary. Keep the ‘human’ smell off your setups, makes rodents suspicious, they are smarter than you think. I do a little backyard
I do a little backyard farming and my compost draws them, plus there’s housing developments going on not far away and that stirs them up as well. It works good. Do it regularly or even ongoing until you see no more disturbance or consumption of the mix

They can drive you nuts. We had a few, not sure how many. May have even been only one. Had an outfit come in and set up a bunch of traps-snap traps, tunnel traps, you name it. I even bought and set out a couple Zap! traps that are supposed to electrocute them. We had a couple snap at night, but they didn't catch the rat(s). Rats are clever and nimble of foot. The Zap! traps were useless, they must give off a noise that bothers rats-they wouldn't go near them even with baiting them with peanut butter/chocolate. Finally we curry combed the house for ANY sign of food (they loved dog kibble and biscuits, those are now sealed tight!) and then set out the baking soda mixes. Within a few days, no more scratching at night and almost no sign. This is the only thing that worked.

We have a small camper and have tried EVERYTHING suggested under the sun and they still came. So my husband set up traps with peanut butter and placed them in small boxes (smaller than a shoe box) with one end open, like a small flap where they go in.. This seems to work in trapping them and without any mess to clean up because all he does is close the end of the box up after they go in and are killed and he then disposes the box. ..Only trouble is it doesn’t stop them from coming so you have to be diligent,

I had a rat hanging around the side of my house. I tried the snap traps to no avail. Tried the glue traps and it roll violently around and got out of it. So I made chocolate delights. 1 part baking soda, sugar, coconut flakes, flour and just enough water to make sticky cookies. I placed them outside and waited. The next morning one was gone. A day later another was gone. On the third day (by now the ants were enjoying the mixture) i found a huge rat. His sides looked blown out. I gave a proper sendoff to the trash can. That night I peered out my window at dusk and there was the smaller rat feasting on some figs from my neighbors tree. Well I set a snap trap and left it covered with leaves in the area I'd seen it run. 3 weeks later I found the snap trap with the rat in sideways and dead. The End. Oh, and recently I found a rat in my car. My neighbor said he did also. So out with the peppermint oil and parking the car in a different spot.

When I set my traps I take cotton filler from an old pillow or dog toy and wrap it around the metal bait catch. Then I use a cheap oily natural peanut butter and make sure I get that oil to saturate the cotton. The idea is for that mechanical connection so they tug and snap. I love the slim Jim idea. Same principle. Cotton is nice because I can leave on there and drizzle the oily peanut butter back onto the trap and reset.
Got a little more than a hundred bux invested. He avoids the snap traps like the plague!! He works out with the glue traps & he LOVES Knoll Pasta Sides!! He seems to favor Creamy Chicken &/or Alfredo with Broccoli.
I swapped the "Pasta" With "Pellets" No luck.
Then I mixed some "Bromethalin" with the "Special Sauce"!!
The Bromethalin is supposed to work within eight hrs!!

We had mice. I used a commercial bait and I believe that killed them; I think at least one of them took it back to the nest to share it. Then I bought three of those electronic devices you plug in the walls. I also put out some cut paper towels scented with either peppermint, clove or vinegar in areas I know they'd been in.
I've just ordered some Vet-choice cedarcide (which is 90% cedar oil) and I'm going to spray the wood or baseboards seasonally. I think this will be great on other unwanted guests as well.

Used flour, plaster of Paris and dry Ranch Dressing mix as an attractant in my storage shed and workshop where mice and rats were running amok. Placed about two tablespoons in about a dozen water bottle bottoms I had cut to a length of 3 inches or so to use a cheap bait cups. A week after the potion was distributed......zero rodent activity......none. For one week there was no evidence that this was working and I was wondering if I'd been punked, but on day seven all rodent activity collapsed to ZERO. Rodent free for two weeks now. Thank You Guys! When humid conditions return to my area I will switch to a baking soda bait since the plaster of Paris will eventually set up in our super-humid area.
I've used plaster and oatmeal for years, 50/50 mix. I can see that they have eaten the mixture and it seems to keep the mice at bay. Never had a smell either, maybe the plaster is drying them out.
This year it hasn't been as effective so thanks for the alternative mixtures.

I’ve have good success with the 5 gallon bucket and rolling pin trap, I like that it’ll trap multiple rodents without needing to be reset. To trap rats I’ve up-sized the concept to a 40 gallon trashcan and even electrified the rim of can and the rolling pin. (This was in a shop with intelligent adults that knew how NOT to electrocute themselves.)
I just bought 4 of those rolling pin traps. Trying them out tomorrow as have some rodents. We have a mice plague in country areas of Australia at the moment so I'll be ready if they come here. Also some farmers have been using swing top bins( as traps all sold out) covered in peanut butter the mice fall into bin filled with water.
I just set up 2 5-gal bucket traps outside by the foundation of my farmhouse. Wire-suspended spinning pop can with peanut butter over 4-5" of water. Every day at about 4pm I check the traps and use a 4" empty plastic plant pot from the garden center to dip up the dead mice. No rats at this point. If I feel ambitious, I dump the mice on the shoulder of my country road to feed vultures, crows, and eagles. No need to dump and keep refilling buckets
Will also try the plaster method. Seems it's good to knock down the population before fall when they really want to move in.
Rats ARE very smart. I bought a doz. of the black jaw traps and they worked great for awhile. After awhile they wouldn't touch them for weeks, but to add insult to injury they figured out just where to chew on the back so that the trap would no longer set. There's a little catch on the back that holds it open. Once that is gone the trap is toast. So now I'm down to 9 and have moved on to bait stations.

Kwik krete and flower 1:1 worked great, I found if you put a small dish of water 10ft away it kills them faster. Bought an older shop that had been over run with rats/mice and in about two or three weeks they were gone.
After spending money on sticky traps, plastic rat traps, humane cage traps, bucket traps, I finally eradicated a very smart rat that had moved into my garage and was destroying my outdoor gear. After watching your videos I got him with the old school Victor traps with slim jim and peanut butter. I have videos of the rat setting off the modern traps, avoiding the sticky and cage traps and the coo de gra with the Victor trap. Wish I had a way to upload the short videos. Thanks for the help!! If you have some leftover hamburger, or bacon grease , melt some paraffin wax mix with the grease applie to trap trigger, let it harden set trap can use several times before rebaiting.

Have you guys tried peanut butter and dry cement mix for rats? My aunt said she got rid of a basement FULL of mice using that mix. When they drink the cement sets up and kills them, according to my aunt. So I wondered if y'all use that trick.
Once you add water to the plaster of paris to make a dough, it won't activate again. Make a dry mix instead.

@@todnewkom7537 You only get one shot to activate the plaster. It needs to activate in the rat's belly. Activating it in a dough makes it inert and ineffective.

Told neighbor I caught 2 mice in my house. Then a rat outside my house with a black cat plastic trap, and another smaller mouse on a Victor rat trap. All he said was, I don't have any in my house.
I work with one of the most famous pest control companies, and when the snap traps are not working I use baking soda recipe and it works. I haven't try the plaster of Paris yet.
I had an invasion of mice in my chicken coop a few years ago. I tried the water bucket trap, spring traps and an auto resetting box trap. Caught a bunch of mice. But what REALLY worked was the new full auto air soft rifle with a laser and light that I got for my birthday. go out a few times a night and just lay waste to them buggers. Come morning the chickens would eagerly clean up the mess. After maybe two weeks of the hunt it got hard to find a mouse in the coop. All the traps were kept active also.

Hey guys, great video! I am currently dealing with a situation where I live. The rodents are not inside my cabin. It is a one room cabin, a modified garage. But at night they come out and I can hear them fighting, breeding, running around the base parameter, up on the roof. My landlord neighbor is a hoarder, and has a pile of wood they live in. I am losing sleep. I do not want to put poison down because we have owls and cats that hunt at night in our yard! I will try your suggestions. Any other ones would be always appreciated. Woop woop!
Since I am of Italian decent I used to use Genoa salami,greasy the better, cut it in small pieces and tie it to the trigger with thread. Worked for mice also.

I like the look of these two ideas that could help with my rat problem. At my home, both of my neighbours have always fed the wild birds in their gardens. Problem is that again we now have another rat problem. They go back and forth, through my garden to get to both bird feeders. My issue is , that I have a goldfish pond with lots of fish that are all different, so easy to notice if one disappears. About 2 months ago, I noticed one missing ,and just put it down to a mystery. But now I have just noticed another missing, and have learned that rats are more than happy to swim and catch pond fish. I did even see a rat problem in the pond about a month ago, but I just thought I may have startled it ,and it fell in. I'm convinced now that the rats are taking my fish and I need to stop this happening.
No rats were harmed during the making of this video.

I purchased a $17 trap on Amazon, and installed a security camera on the bottom side of the access door to the crawlspace that is motion sensitive. I have so far caught four large rats and one small one. I’ve also trapped a couple small ones in the garage. Having great success. The security camera was $32 on Amazon so I have about a $50 investment. The app on my phone for the wise security camera notifies me. It’s been working great. It is a rental home so my landlord is arranging for someone to come out to seal up any possible access points.

I have tried the flour/plaster of Paris mixture and it works really well a 50/50 mix left dry and they just lick it up with the result you can imagine.
That's the way to do it... I don't why these guys say to make it into a ball by using liquid? You activate the hardness before it's time...

I had good luck with RAMIK GREEN, feed them every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. Did this in November and really don't hear any scratching anymore. The poison is an old type and sold at a farm supply in a 4-lb bag, not a retail product in sample packages. Just bagged a Norway in a conibear trap, putting out more bait and setting traps again to avoid any rats from moving in lol

I use one box of Jiffy Cornmeal mix and one box of baking soda..cheap and easy. I add in peanut butter if on hand. or a squirt of Hershey chocolate syrup and form small balls that allows them to carry them off if they like. I am concerned about using the plaster of paris in the mix that my dog or chickens will discover the mixture. I know the cornmeal and baking soda mixture is safe for the all other animals except horses.
Baking powder vs baking soda? Baking soda would react with the acis in their stomach, whereas the baking powder is either water-activiated or oven-heat-activated.

I tried all mentioned methods to no avail finally some strategically oil products and a match cleaned the whole house only down side is I had to use more than plaster to rebuild my house but no more rodents thank you twins one other problem was getting arrested for arson and my insurance did not cover the damage
I like the quick setting concrete with flower 50/50. I usually set a tote or 5gal bucket with a pie pan of water in it close with a ramp and they scurry into the container looking for water and it's easy clean up. The old school methods are imo more effective than the new baits/poisons.
I glue my snap-traps and glue traps to a larger piece of wood. Keeps them from dragging it off somewhere else to die and decompose.

Twin Home Experts I use string to tie the trap to an item close to the place of trap. This makes it easy to release the dead mouse in to plastic bag for disposal. My traps are made of plastic with a well for attractant from Lowes. They are very easy to set and release with one hand .
You know how they make Mickey Mouse and Mighty Mouse and Jerry (From Tom and jerry) such cute and lovable. After my experience with rats in my house, if I saw Mickey Mouse at Disneyland, I swear you will all see me on the news as the man who assaulted Mickey Mouse.

Years ago...My aunt bought a FL home from a daughter of an elderly lady with dementia. The house was cleaned but, first night we heard lots of noise in the walls. We panicked when we saw dozens of large rats. They were hugh and terrifying. Old Lady had neglected home facia board rotted and they made holes ce and went. We had never had this in NY so went to a DIY exterminator supply store and bought bait squares. Well they died quickly but.....
They died in the walls creating brown goo stains and a stench from hell. It cost over $2000 to rip open walls re-sheetrock paint and fumigate. It still smelled for months we wound up selling.

The walls are hollow & rotted and I hear them gnawing and squeaking in exterior walls from outside and inside saw over 20 in one night coming in over kitchen cabinets from stove overhead vent a Hole they made. Please advise me. I'm scared my cats and dogs will be hurt they got the rat fleas and have bite wounds on mouth have killed and eaten 4 large ones and 4 teens but, house has many squealing babies I hear in my bedroom area.

Have not heard any scratching, etc. and believe me know about mice and rats, after living in NC. Ended up getting monthly exterminator there. W now live in MD and it is cold and farms are plowing fields. Just noticed stuff going on in garage! Chewed golf bag, then repaired, and came back from vacation to a wreath on wall that was on floor, and all the straw over the garage. My husband put camera in garage, and replaced my golf bag in garage, so last night this critter devoured my bag. No treats in it, just golf balls? Will try your methods and get back to you!!! Thanks!

It'll just temporarily solve your problem. You need to prevent them from coming into your garage by filling all holes bigger than 1/4 inch.
Plus Add a rodent bar to garage doors; cannot chewed cuz made of steel.

Here's what we did to access the inside of walls where we had a rodent problem:
We bought what is called an "old work" plastic electrical box, one designed to hold three switches and is called a triple. These are designed to be installed in existing walls and are secured by wings that extend out and tighten to secure the box to the wall board. We used a saw to remove the back of the box and then installed it in the wall near where we could hear rats running. We bought a "blank" cover, one with no holes for switches or outlets, to fit the box. We can take the blank cover off and set a trap inside the wall and secure the trap to the box with a wire or light chain, (this is important or the rat, if not killed immediately may drag the trap out of your reach and you'll have a stinking carcass in your wall). When you install the blank cover, it is very unobtrusive, it just looks like an electrical installation of some sort, but allows easy access to the inside of your wall without having to do any demolition. It gives permanent access in case they return.
