if you feel like you've seen this video before, you actually might have! this is a "remake" of one of the first video essays I ever uploaded. while a lot of improvements have been made, it's still the same basic idea as the original so it might seem familiar to some of you. i just love this episode so much that i needed to make sure the video was doing it justice! enjoy!
i’m pretty sure that’s more because abed is the one imagining the alternate timeline, and as we saw in the episode where troy leaves he freaks out hard as hell
Why I love this episode is that it rang true to life. When Donald Glover left Community it wasnt the same. It ended the next season. It survived pretty well after Chevy Chase left, just as the timeline with Pierce leaving. It also let us know that the group's main dysfunction was Jeff as he exerts his influence over every facet of their relationship. Jeff being absent allows them all to be themselves, their best selves.
Yup, there’s a reason why Community fans always rank this as the best episode. I love how there are multiple “guns” that go off in this episode- great video!!
Honestly that was the entire motif of Community, even Harmon has said so. Abed is the one that he most closely relates to, but he wrote Jeff as the person he thought he was/wanted to be. Jeff learned through the series that he needed the group FAR more than they needed him. Makes the ending where he genuinely hugs Abed mean so much more. Perfect parallel of the first episode "I get I now Abed, I see your worth." As in he could use Abed to get into Britta's pants. Then in the final episode giving a genuine hug because he loved his friend and will deeply miss him. Showing him that he did indeed find his value, and loved him for it. This is by far the best episode, but man, this entire series is full of amazing moments and character growth.
YEES THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE EPISODE, ITS SOOO GOOD. Its soo cool how they portray characters mental thinking like when Jeff is about to graduate and his Evil version of him visits him in reality he was just really doubting his future and was scared for it.
Wow. Just wow. Whether this is your favorite episode or not, this has been the best breakdown I have ever seen. Not just of this show but any show. Congratulations on conveying the theme of this episode and the entire show. It was astute, concise, and wonderfully edited. You're right. Jeff needs the group, but not only him. We all do too.
My only critique of Remedial Chaos Theory is that by nature it has to be repetitive. It’s not really an issue on the first watch, but once you’ve seen the episode 4 or 5 times, Jeff explaining the rules of the toss and Abed’s “six different timelines” can get a little tired. Of course, the episode is still fantastic and definitely in my top 5, but I think my favorite will always be either Contemporary American Poultry or Spanish 101. Ken Jeong’s introduction as Senor Chang is one of my favorite moments of the show, and Pierce and Jeff’s presentation is right up there with it. Contemporary American Poultry is just such a tight episode, Abed’s narration as the power dynamics shift away from and back to Jeff make it so rewatchable. Great video as always!!
Never even seen this show but I was genuinely moved by the ending. I think it will be a while before any media recreates the feeling of blissfully ignorant joy amidst all of the "guns" in life that could go off at any moment as concisely as this episode has. Thank you for sharing :)
i honestly didnt really understand this rating at first, because i didnt catch all the details in the episode itself. but the video explained them very well!
Annie and Jeff, and Troy and Britta are gross couples because of the fact that Britta and Jeff have been adults the entire time they have known the group. While Troy and Annie are both seen as "kids" throughout the beginning of the show. Jeff referring to Annie as "kid" through most of the first few seasons... The romance crap is probably the thing about the show I hate the most and there are some other issues.
What if i told you, the highest rated episode on imdb and the one 90% of viewers think is the best episode, is actually the best episode! "gasp"! Why phrase it like this was some extremely original opinion that nobody has had before?
During the season's production, Remedial Chaos Theory (the 3rd production episode) proved to be difficult to make, so it aired after Competitive Ecology, making it the 4th aired episode of the season. The first line from Britta and Annie in the episode was a quick dubbed-in joke about whether the apartment is supposed to be 303 or 304.

Ah, so an alternate timeline of the alternate timelines video. Glorious
😂 I thought I was in the darkest timeline for a minute.
That's why I couldn't find it! Algorithm passed over this one the second time
This episode also predicted that the show will fall apart if Troy leaves, the timeline where goes away from the group is the darkest timeline
i’m pretty sure that’s more because abed is the one imagining the alternate timeline, and as we saw in the episode where troy leaves he freaks out hard as hell
wowwwwwww

I found this episode the most amazing one, which in my humble opinion they weren't ever able to match to again in the future
This episode is my most watched episode of community by a LONG SHOT. It is PERFECT.
YEES THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE EPISODE, ITS SOOO GOOD. Its soo cool how they portray characters mental thinking like when Jeff is about to graduate and his Evil version of him visits him in reality he was just really doubting his future and was scared for it.
after seeing Community completely 3 times, it was in this video i realized they color hued the different timelines

You're right. Jeff needs the group, but not only him. We all do too.
good job on the colour-coding. very nice idea to help visualise which timeline each scene was from
thank you! that was exactly the idea! 😁

Contemporary American Poultry is probably my favorite episode of the show.
It’s my favourite as well
Completely agree on the repetitive nature on repeat watches
My favorite episode

Great analysis!
Another banger my guy. Love your channel

Why did this make me cry
Man that song at the end really hits in the feels.
And this was bottle episode which Abed hates it.
Great video. This is my favorite episode of the series!
This is the best episode by far
imo the best part of the show is that it ISNT by far, there are numerous other episodes that could be said to be the best
personally my top 3 in no specific order is critical film studies, cooperative polygraphy, introduction to finality

Beautiful ♥ I love Community. This ep is really the best - it sums up their friendship. Also how awesome the writing is.
Never even seen this show but I was genuinely moved by the ending. I think it will be a while before any media recreates the feeling of blissfully ignorant joy amidst all of the "guns" in life that could go off at any moment as concisely as this episode has. Thank you for sharing :)

Die? Dye?
Is that an inside joke?
Shouldn't it be called dice?
Die is the singular form of dice
The best episode is dungeons and dragons by far.
Also pillows and blankets but I love Ken burns war documentaries so I think that’s a biased choice
I agree, def my best episode, but wasn't it S03E03 and not 04 ? i've been watching on random websites so did i miss an episode ?
