So fun fact. I was in Japan back in April and watched a few movies while I was there. They still have those stealing movie infomercials in their theaters before they show the trailers. I was surprised and had to hold in my laugh as I saw these. Like, “what?! This is a thing still?” 🤣
i was just about to say. There were alot of black people who were even still slaves in the deep south even after slavery was "abolished," well into the 60s, it was just under a different name. Alot of places down south held onto slavery for as long as they could, and nothing was being done because the local governments were in on it too.
I've never snuck into a movie, but I do enjoy bringing my own food in from time to time. My new favorite is sneaking Qdoba burritos and a bottle of soda in my purse. 😅
I feel I have to defend theatres over the butter your own popcorn thing. As someone who worked in a cinema, it was a fucking nightmare buttering popcorn for guests as roughly 1 in 5 guests would get upset that "you did it wrong" while never providing any specifications. Between guests screaming at you that you're racist and trying to kill them because you happened to use 1 more burst of butter on theirs, or guests who didn't want butter but were glued to their phones and just said yes blaming you for not being able to read their minds. Just add however much extra butter you want yourself and save the poor workers the shouting tirade.
Mind you , I'm not American .... but if it's such a hassle they should just stop selling buttery popcorn altogether . But i guess that it's such a cultural element.. the same way that many parts of the world is against butter on popcorn , and find it strange . Still , even if it's a joke .. I'd echo Robert's feelings on the matter . I can't imagine being told to salt or sugar popcorn myself on a station , with that kind of pricing lol . I'd blame management , not the workers however
This episode has a neat little detail not many people notice. Ruckus the man who thinks black people can’t hardly do anything acknowledges Huey can use Nunchucks which in a way says that he sees him as a worthy adversary. One of the few black people Ruckus somewhat respects in his own way.
My family used to bring whole meals into the theatres lmao. Chicken wings, sides, 2-Liters...we definitely did wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much. At least half of us would sneak in too. I felt bad about until the movie started 😅

Also I’ve seen SoulPlane, and some of the questionable subtext like a father not wanting the worse for his daughter, and some other shit I didn’t find funny.
The episode is full of sharp social commentary, and it's not afraid to tackle controversial topics. It aims at the commercialization of the movie industry, the violence in popular culture, and the class divide in America. But it's also a hilarious episode. The dialogue is razor-sharp, and the characters are all perfectly realized. Granddad is as grumpy and cantankerous as ever, Huey is as idealistic and naive as ever, and Riley is as foul-mouthed and hilarious as ever. Or Die Trying" is an excellent example of what makes The Boondocks such a special show. It's brilliant, it's funny, and it's never afraid to be provocative. It's an essential episode for any fan of the series.
4:30 ish how old is grandpa, you would be shocked that in the early 2000's old people who were in there 60's and 70's actually dealt with exactly what is being depicted you talking the 1930's and 40's. segregation didnt even end till 1964 and even then they were throwing rocks at little girls who were just wanting to go to school(that just so happened to be a white school prior to segregation. which means even today us/kids are hugging on grandma and grandpa and they were born in and raised in a racist society and some maybe even quite a few didnt agree with the societal views and weird but that was the statis quo in america. so even today there are living relatives who thought nah we shouldnt mix races in school.

back in highschool me and my buddies had this trick we would play on our local movie theater it was new and in the most random place before the added things around it, we would all go up there and then one of us would go to the front and just ask to use the bathroom show them my board or whoever got picked to go and say "im on my way home but im not gunna make it to the bathoom can i use yours they would let the person in we would run to and exit and open it and let all the friends in the person would leave out the front door and would be let in thru the same exit we would then movie hop to what ever movie we actually wanted to see after we got in just look up the movie times and you would know when it would get crowded 15-20 mins before the show time so we would just get some snacks and look for the theater it was in

But the Boondocks though the eyes of Huey is who we are as we experience everything though his eyes, like in the original comic strip. Few have done it better in our modern age. Boondock is a 2000s cartoon. But the comic strip goes back to 1996. They know they had to make the cartoon. Waiting for feelings to be resolved so we can get the Boondocks movie, with the original crew. While no one is waiting for a Dilberts movie. I think you guys for bringing this to life. I pray we can get past the .... so the Boondocks crew can come back together with the original drawings (obviously minus grandad - Witherspoon, although I know the writers can work magic if they want). Nevertheless, I'm here for it. 20 years of non covered history by the Boondocks + predictions. Huey finally got his wish to make white folks riot, (they are repeating most of his theories, lololol) even though they damn 20 years behind, and do it in such a way that Big Corp is being sued for hundreds of millions (we were even up on space lasers lolol.
