I cut up old “high-viz” construction work shirts, the reflective colours and tape really stands out in the woods. I’ve been amazed to spot my markers 50 yards away through dense brush or hundreds of yards away down a trail or along a tree line. I’ve also used them for marking my camp along the shoreline when out kayaking and after awhile the banks and trees all look the same and you start getting tired. It’s a relief to see that marker on a branch a few hundred yards upriver. I also use the marker to mark hunting blinds if I know other hunters are around that area.
THANK YOU! I am probably the only person on the planet that got lost in my own backyard. This is a great tip and one that I will surely use many times.
Fortunately, I have the ability to find my way back to safety without any help or need for crumbs on my trail. It's built in to me. I grew up spending a large amount of time in the neighboring 400 acres of woods and have expanded that area to my entire state. Once you know how to tell direction from plant life and the sky, you'll never be lost for long.
Best way to retain knowledge is through repetition and practice. I repeatedly watch your videos and I actively practice the fundamentals. It's not what you preach, but what you tolerate.
When we were biking in the desert since everything looks the same we would use a flashing beacon light on top of the truck. Really shows up at night. Also pink panel markers are great.
That’s what I do when I go hunting with my uncle Bob. He’ll get turned around every time. Orange tape works great, it’s cheap and small……. There’s NO excuse for not taking it with you - UNCLE BOB
Haven't been lost lost in a long time. Had one of those $80.00 some odd military camenga tritium compasses in the pitch dark. What I didn't know was that it was bound up on it's axis and was totally inaccurate in that condition. Couldn't tell doodley in the dark, but the little radioactive bits were faithfully shining to show the way, but it was the wrong way. Went back to my reliable Silvas and have been trouble free ever since ❤
Really you should never be lost if can calmly stay in one place until the sun comes up. You should have checked a map of the area to know major landmarks like roads and rivers and such. That are impossible to miss. If you know there is a road to the North of where you started and you don't remember crossing a road then it is still North of you.
Nope. Wasn't possible to stay put. I made my way out because I knew where I was when I ran across a main trail and made my way back to my camp. No life and death scenario, just major inconvenience because of a defective compass. I think it was C. Kelly that said in one of his videos that there's really no place to go that you won't hit a road or RR track, etc. In a day's walk. Urban people unused to the great outdoors likely would be better served to stay put. Just a case of a POS unit, but I've long since rectified that
Love the new channel, Corporal Kelly. May it live long and - be successful! (thought I was gonna say "prosper", din't ya? Haha. Well, that too!) Cheers
Rather than a blanket, I carry toilet paper when hiking. Drape 2 - 3 feet of it from a tree. Bright white, moves in a breese, biodegradable (if you get lost and die and don't recover it), weighs nothing and keeps your bum clean.
My own cellphone i must 1st switch gps on..and then rotate phone before it shows me the correct directions. And if it would be flat battery... It wont help me.

I asked roboutdoors when was he going to do relevant Bushcraft for when shtf like you and Mr. Canterbury you and your crew are the real deal
Thanks for the tip. Followed you over from corporals corner. Interesting group of instructors. Hope this works well for you
Surveyors tape works really well for marking a trail
I usually mark my territory at the base of trees and bushes…keeping hydrated helps. Have fun stay safe.
Awesome and outstanding
Love this, no nonsense just great teaching
Corporal is my favorite trainer got to meet him and EJ Snyder it was a blessing
Great Tip ! Thank You For Sharing.
And if you don't carry a real compass, add a button compass to your keychain.
Blazing a trail has helped me in the past.
Even when I know where I am, I'm still lost.
That is true

Cool. Im gonna add that color to my pack for the upcoming elk hunt in October in the Sangre de Cristos mountains.
I use to tie a red bandana on my kids back packs. Good idea. Thanks Kelly.
good one .

Survival Mastery has its own Slogan that we ask our Trainers to use when providing clips for us. Thanks for the Understanding
Great info as always!! Always remember that it's the little things that jump up and bite you if you're not prepared!
This is why I mark my trails with orange tape
That’s what I do when I go hunting with my uncle Bob. He’ll get turned around every time.

Damnation

I was in the USMC, I can read a compass and map. The leaving flags, is just too simple and convenient.❤ Semper Fi
Thank you
great tip Corporal.....it will be used.

Outstanding A.F tip my friend
Love it. Thanks
You hear a few news stories about lost hikers every year and you would think that lessons learned however, that’s rarely the case.
Outstanding idea brother

Looks horrible.
Trust in Jesus and you will never be lost.😂
Informative and beneficial video!
Nice tip Corp
What about carrying reflective vests for hunters?
I had this happen to me as a kid while hunting
That one is now tucked away into the tool box.
I need to do this with a PVC pipe and a waypoint when I park my truck in a parking lot so I'll find it when I come out of the store.
Waypoints are the WAY :)
Thanks!
Corporal AF, Shawn. Thanks!
Thanks for the tip.
Howdy cpl. I made my way over.
I like the new channel
Nice video
Good tip .
Thanks Corporal
Thank you corporal Kelly, loving survival mastery, nicely done brother!! 👍🏽🪖🫡
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY brother
We carry blaze orange tape for the same purpose. Just don't leave it on the tree.
Nice!
And have multiple other uses as well
Excellent comment about versatility. I have usgi panel markers, but they stay in the truck since they are not a multi-function item.
👍
Tip 1 # never leave the house lol.
Just wanted to say hi and that the Corporal sent me this way
Signaling- this is a really good, multi-use item.
Be safe everyone
It's 2024, one has to be quite an idiot to pull off getting lost these days.
yet it seems to happen all the time. thanks for the comments
@@SurvivalMasteryOnline yes. That really shows that people are getting dumber. All this technology has disabled so many people's brains.
You will get lost in large forrest area, which is new to you with no trail at night really easy.

💪🏽🇺🇸
In my state it's not against the law to get off the trail in a state park.
I carry pink tape and a sharpie my mark only I know
It’s looking a bit thin, you can read the paper through it.
Quick question , i wouldn't use one in an emergency. Are compass apps any good for temporary situation.
ask yourself if a phone dies or signal is lost will that help?
@@SurvivalMasteryOnlinethats the best answer..thats why i rather learn to navigate and use compass instead.

I have never been lost. Maybe just confused for a month or two.
Said Daniel Boone, Brian Keith in Mountain Men, you, and me. Several times in my case!
I heard getting lost was invented
Staying put is only an option if someone is looking for you to be some where at a certain time.
I like this thanks.
Always think ahead and cover your ass.
for a another video. If you have travel across five states on foot to get to your loved ones ? rivers and Desert 🏜? And you have a dog?
Good to see ya Corp. 🫡
