    Wow! Pretty amazing. I downloaded the 30-day trial and put in a couple of images I took the other week of Flying Foxes here in Australia skimming across water to drink. The originals came out okay but were grainy since they were shot at ISO 6000 (just switched from ten-year old Canon and not yet used to Sony). Topaz just ate up all the noise and those images are now buttery-smooth. Awesome. I'll need to add this to my toolset. Thanks for highlighting it.

    I found that Denoise AI sometimes kills colours in certain parts of the image and misshapens bird beaks when used too much. AI clear does a better job preserving colours but is not as versatile to make adjustments. For some birds like woodpeckers and little songbirds under bad lighting it seems to be better to use AI Clear, although it has a tendency to oversharpen and add some "stringiness" to feathers.
    A few more tips:
    - Avoid using clarity/texture in Lightroom before opening Topaz Denoise AI. Denoise has a tendency to retain noise in the wrong areas if these features are used...
    - Do Denoise AI before using Sharpen AI, as Denoise seems to think some of the sharpened artifacts are part of the image.
    - TIFF files shouldn't shrink dynamic range but the output files still seem low compared to the source, so it's best to make some adjustments before opening the TIFF in Denoise/Sharpen.

One thing I did find is the Ai instructions said to DeNoise first then process and in testing I found the opposite. Ai allowed us to add a stop of ISO to the Auto Iso in the Nikon D850's & D500's.

    Thanks you for always providing such practical advice. I wrote these products off as folly. Till I saw this video which seemed to do a good job. But I remained skeptical about the Sharpening one. So I recently did a shoot where one of the shots caught the perfect expressions and composition but I had missed focus on that particular shot. I tried Topaz sharpen and to my amazement it did a decent job. It is not nearly as good as nailing focus in the camera, but it did make the shot salvageable. I would probably never had tried it if I had not seen this video.

    Topaz denoise is like magic… I had a laugh when he said the d500 is noisy, shows how nice of cameras he uses. When i got a D500 I was blown away at how clean the images were. I was digging through my old film scans when when I shot some wildlife on a Minolta camera way back when, and I was absolutely blown away by how noisy the images were compared to the DSLR’s i was so used to shooting. I had started with the older Nikons dslrs and worked my way up, each one better and forgot just how noisy film was compared to modern stuff. Topaz Denoise really struggles with film grain from scans, my best guess is that it has to do with the pixel size to grain size ratio. Basically the grain is so large compared to the scan resolution Topaz doesn’t recognize it as noise.

    I have been using and presenting Topaz for years. They have always had the best noise reduction now with their AI programs they are sill the best in noise reduction but now sharpening and general processing. The sharpening AI is the best ever it does amazing magic with camera motion, subject motion and out of focus, but requires a pretty massive computer. I think you have given me an idea for a February presentation commitment I have made. You know my situation so it will be a hard challenge where it the past presentation were easy. Hey Markie, been using this stuff for years. The 'DeNoiser' is great but I bought the whole library of stuff that Topaz has and the other stuff is just as amazing, (more for effects than repairs), but the effects are so cool you can't help but use them at certain times. It'll make anyone look smarter than they really are! But check out the 'Psychedelic' filter in the Topaz Adjust 5 package and then in the 'Adjust 4' category. It's a bit strong but Topaz has so many other filters which are more subtle, if you wish. They install great and most of all, they work and Topaz gives the best backup of anyone I've ever worked with. There's stuff in there that will make your bird shots stand out better than anything out there, which your 'flight' shots already do on their own. You're making me jealous with all the Sony stuff. Great Work!

      @@MarkSmithphotography After downloading the trial and processing several photos I feel it surpasses NIK DeFine-2 for both speed and quality. So I bough a copy...Topaz AI Denoise makes ISO 3200 look like ISO100 without muddying details. PS: I think you're right about AI type specialized softwares being the way of the future.

    The TIMING of this is...spooky haha! I just got back from a volunteer camp trip for our critically endangered Native birds & some of my images bc of the conditions (natural + camera settings) I unfortunately either underexposed or overexposed & got too much grain for my liking. *I'm gonna download this & try it* !! Thank you!

  • @wmutoob

    Yup! The power of this software is far more visible when viewed on my larger, hi-res monitor. I would still like to see what is the best that Lightroom can do on its own to compare 3 close-ups side-by-side (1. before processing, 2. after Topaz, 3 after Lightroom) if that is possible.

  • @fingolfin75
    @fingolfin75 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    That app is magic! I’ve just got the A7rIV and it really saves my ass in most of the times when I have to crop heavily and you can see noise even at low iso! And you should try sharpen AI too!!! It enhances details when used in “stabilize” mode. It just amazing!!! I am going through all my old photos that I thought that were unusable due to noise or bad focusing and thanks to these two apps I’m recovering and posting lots of them! It’s like magic! Worth every dollar especially for us wildlife photographers!
