Thank you Heather. I spent most of last evening searching for my 'All stitched up' by Jane Crowfoot. I found your wee instruction video this morning. Perfect for a large buttonhole on a gift......
Thanks so much for making these short technique videos, Heather. I am on a necessary hiatus from MHK work, but plan to start again this fall. These buttonhole videos will make great references!
That is such a neat looking buttonhole. I especially like that the top and bottom match. On so many buttonholes the top and bottom look different because of the cast on method. Nicely done!
Thank you. Very useful and just the right amount of info. Sometimes i get overwhelmed when all you super teachers make huge long exhaustive videos with 40 ways to do something. I have trouble focusing and picking out which method to learn and with so much info they get all mixed up in my head haha. On the other hand super short demos are only great if you already know how where when and why you might use a technique which isnt super likely if you are looking up videos on how its done.
You're welcome -- I'm glad it's useful! It's definitely a balancing act between wanting to share *everything* relevant to a particular technique in my videos versus keeping them short and sweet. I'm doing my best to provide a mix so that at least there's something for each need/want/video preference! Glad to have you here!
This looks quite similar to a buttonhole I devised a few years ago (as in, waaaay back in 2006!). I called it Megan's Reinforced Buttonhole and this is the first time I've seen anything at all like it anywhere else. For my one I make the chain using a crochet hook and then, on the return row, knit or purl into the "back ridge" of the chain as the pattern requires. With my instructions I did say how to make the chain by doing using yarn overs - but it was different as it just made the chain by doing yarn overs and passing the right stitch over it. I'll have to try it out using this way for making the chain as that's not something I've tried before. (In fact, of course I'm going to nip across the room to my knitting right now and try it.) :-)
@@HeatherStorta I've got the reprint but haven't gone through it yet (I could never afford the original before she brought out the new one). I wonder what else I'll find in there when I do? Especially if she's got circular brioche...
Lady I love you thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤️❤️❤️🤗
You are so welcome!
It looks perfect just will try this method,

I like the matching top and bottom too!
Thank you. I usually use the cable cast on demonstrated in the one row buttonhole method but I think this one looks much better.

That yarn over cast on is nifty. I’ll have to play with that. Thanks!
Isn't that cool? It is a bit fiddly and I found it was hard to get good tension, but likely it would be easier/better with practice.

Oh, how interesting! I found this one in Hiatt's "Principles of Knitting."
