  • Aquatics expert Tom Sarac provides an in-depth overview of the Kuhli Loach! Endemic to Southeast Asia, these strange, snake-like fish inhabit slow-moving rivers and streams that contain aquatic plants. They prefer acidic, tannin-stained water, and require a varied, omnivorous diet. Kuhli Loaches are incredible escape artists, so be sure to seal the aquarium tightly!

    I have loved these fish for years, very tough and very long lived. Full of personality.

    My Kuhli Loach outlived all of my other fish, including the gold fish. Had one for ten years. Very hardy, but very shy. Make sure they have a hiding place such a shell.

    pangio cuneovirgarta is a good kuhli for 5-10 gallons. they only get to about 1.5-2 inches and have all the same attributes of regular kuhlis just smaller

    Thank you for great info. I have 7 big beautiful funny adults 1 year ago. And have in total 17 kuhliis. 7 quite small I bought the last week's and 2 more today. Yesterday they moved into they new home 250L tank. Mountains with caves, roots to soften their water. Several Caves at the bottom and many types of plants. Drilled holes in a half coconut I need to install. Only kuhliis get inside protected.
    35kg sand, 10kg polished small gravle. 3 scalare, 4 anemone shrimps, 7 small shrimps, 4 baby molly, some (had 13) 3 weeks old guppies. I think the scalares ate a few, and 2 other fish I don't remember what kind I bought today. and 1 mystery snail and som sands nails. Molly and mystery snail don't like soft water so they might have to move. I made the aquarium for the kuhliis. Lightning are during some hours normal plant light from the top. In the evening only sunrise, green or red usually Low from the sides from Temu /wish. Not installed yet so tonight it's from the top. Moonlight plant light with dimmer from Temu/wish on the other side. I recommend everyone to have Airbobbles almost at the bottom in front where you can watch them play in the streem. I'm filming right now and will publish on my Instagram Kikkmi73 Kristin Nesdal Or TH-cam. Some are playing on one side and some in the bubbles and streem from the pump. Red light kuhlii district in my tank tonight. Love it.

    Can they be in a tank with Rock gravel or do they have to be in fish tanks with sand?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! We recommend only keeping Kuhli Loaches in aquariums with fine sand, as they often bury themselves.

    Glad to see this underrated fish getting a spotlight. While the striped version is pretty, I prefer and highly recommend the black Khuli loach. They're far more outgoing and less timid. Especially in groups of 4 or more in a planted tank!

      For beginners I will agree they are more active, and they are bigger which is good. However I added both when I started, and as I added wood and the suggested plants, and added 4-6 khuli, I found that they are actually more active, and they grew to be an ideal size. Both are great!
