You learned DMC combat quite fast! Hopfully you will remember it next time. The key point of DMC is to hold lock on (to attack and roll) and release lock on (to jump). Once you get handful of it, you will feel like god-ish

I would recommend the first Devil May Cry if you like the others. Discouraging someone from playing DMC2 is sharing a broadly agreed upon opinion, most people didn't like the game when it came out and people don't like it much now, either. DMC1 was loved when it came out and now people act like the fact that it's older and had less to learn from make it unworthy of experiencing. It disappoints and saddens me. I played Devil May Cry 1, 3, and 4 for the first time in 2016. I loved them all, they're all fun, stylish, and endlessly charming. DMC is one of the two series that made me truly love video games again and be happy I played them. I hope IRys will give it a shot.
With the current culture of remakes i'm no longer surprised that people skip the first titles of a franchise, since they always say that they are "outdated". Irys is never going to play the first two DMC games, and if a DMC remake comes out no one is going to play the first 3 games anymore, I bet my life that's what will happen in about 10-15 years.

This game series is just flat out fun, and the combat is difficult, but feels rewarding when you pull off those stylish finishers . I thought for sure that Dante would be able overtake 9s in the white-haired bishonen rankings, but I guess not quite yet .
I had a hard time that first Vergil fight way waaaaay back then so seeing you destroy him without using stinger to gap close was quite amazing. you surely were M O T I V A T E D

The game is a bit dated in many aspects but the combat holds extremely well in the modern gaming environment (just check out the AMAZING combos people can do in the game. They're crazy!). Congrats on beating your big brother Vergil! You did great for this playthrough, honestly I think you played better than the majority of my friends who approached the game the first time! And this is definitely not an easy game to start with, considering all of the button mashing and combos you need to memorize. It’s one of the last games I played with a dear friend of mine, I miss her a lot everyday but watching this stream made me feel better and made me remember the best memories (actually I wanna replay the game now ^^). Irys really had an emotional arc playing this. She went from complaining about nearly everything, from the language to the controls to loving everything about this game lol.
IRyS did amazing for someone who’s never played this kind of game before. After Cerberus, she pretty much cruised through other bosses like a champ! Kinda wish she could play the Switch version to make use of the new features, but ah well. I hope she’ll go on to play 4 and 5 after this, too.

DMC3 takes what DMC1 did and expands on the combat and pretty much perfects it. In DMC1 you really only have the Sword with Stinger and High Time, various guns, and one other weapon. Though 1 did make it's guns effective on certain types of enemies. It's a bit more "serious" than 3 though, and easier since 3 wants to be a very combat focused game. You did really good today though, after a few runs at Cerberus the combat clicked and you got pretty far already. One tip for attacking is that you hold toward the enemy to use Stinger, and hold away from the enemy to use High Time. And if you hold the attack during it, you'll jump into the air instead of needing to manually jump.

That was an amazing run seriously IRyS you did awesome, I can't tell you how long it took me to beat cerberus the first time I played fought him (wayyyy longer than you), you learn so quickly and grasps lots of special moves quick too like the wall run and dodges with trickster style. Pre-DMC3 was more serious. DMC3 was when Dante REALLY leaned into the wacky woo-hoo pizza man we know and love today Also if you use stinger to go off of a ledge Dante does a huge leap. Just a neat hidden movement trick

Everyone’s suggesting IRyS start with DMC3. Story-wise, yeah, it helps, but DMC5 is way more polished and easier overall. DMC3 is a PS2 game, so it’s just hard by default. Just hope she doesn’t quit before she starts having fun with it.😅
Dante is just a wacky during and past DMC3. His evolution has been from a corny, yet serious one-liner kind of a guy to the WACKY YAHOO PIZZA MAN. And we love him for that

IRyS is now part of the Now, I'm Motivated gang who played this game which includes Biboo and Gura! lol I think that Gura is more of a Dante fan while Biboo is more of a Vergil fan. Meanwhile, IRyS might be more of a Dante fan but will probably eventually learn to like the edgier brother Vergil. lol Most people who have never played and touch the Devil May Cry series would think that Dante is an edgelord, serious emo boy but little did they know that he's more of a wacky woo hoo pizza man crazy uncle type who likes to party! lol Vergil is the more dark and ice cold brooding type. Dante is a chill and cool laid back dude who just happens to have super powers. He's closer to Deadpool in silliness and personality than the Batman type of characters.
Dante is Gura's husbando and Vergil is Bijou's husbando in case there's someone you want to talk to about the series. Also don't worry about not changing the language, Ruben Langdon and Dan Southworth are legendary as Dante & Vergi.
They are also the original voices since this game came out during that time in the PS1 & PS2 era when franchises like Resident Evil and Silent Hill had English VO even in Japan
yeah it is kinda funny that they wrote the script in japanese, then translated to english, then did the voiceovers, then translated it back to japanese and did japanese voiceovers, but that also explains the translation errors like dante randomly telling nero to stay out of his way in 5 despite nero being 50000m away or vergil asking if nero was his son after saying his son meant nothing to hin
U have alot to learn about Devil May Cry you need to memorize and practice how to survive and move on to the next stage. Bijou and Gura have experience these types of battles already
The amount of people that have no idea about the mechanics or controls and say things with such confidence it's absolutely hilarious. Also it's Cerberus, not Sirberus. She already pronounced it correctly when she said it the first time.
I see potential in your gameplay. You have the right idea by not button mashing. Truthfully - you weapon swap better than I do (I almost never), so you have that over a "veteran" like me. Don't sweat the game overs, just show me your motivation!

I would recommend the first Devil May Cry if you like the others. Discouraging someone from playing DMC2 is sharing a broadly agreed upon opinion, most people didn't like the game when it came out and people don't like it much now, either.
DMC1 was loved when it came out and now people act like the fact that it's older and had less to learn from make it unworthy of experiencing. It disappoints and saddens me. I played Devil May Cry 1, 3, and 4 for the first time in 2016. I loved them all, they're all fun, stylish, and endlessly charming. DMC is one of the two series that made me truly love video games again and be happy I played them. I hope IRys will give it a shot.
and at the very least it's important to the story, especially compared to dmc 2

With the current culture of remakes i'm no longer surprised that people skip the first titles of a franchise, since they always say that they are "outdated". Irys is never going to play the first two DMC games, and if a DMC remake comes out no one is going to play the first 3 games anymore, I bet my life that's what will happen in about 10-15 years.

I had a hard time that first Vergil fight way waaaaay back then so seeing you destroy him without using stinger to gap close was quite amazing. you surely were M O T I V A T E D

I've said this time and again before, but you're a MUCH better gamer than you think you are. I was legit impressed on how you adapted to the gameplay flow and are now pulling off good combos. And you didn't take long at any boss at all! Beginners are usually stuck at the Cerberus boss for hours. You have the makings of a master demon slayer!

The fact the IryS doesn't even know such game exist makes me think she's is pretty young, this game is from a golden era, a golden age, back when gaming is at its peak she has never seen like this before and there's a lot of these kinds of goofy stuff back in it's time.

I'd recommend trying DMC1 after this, it's a lot simpler but also edgier, Dante wasn't as wacky back then and I think it's a very cool atmospheric game. It also comes chronologically after 3!

You did great for this playthrough, honestly I think you played better than the majority of my friends who approached the game the first time! And this is definitely not an easy game to start with, considering all of the button mashing and combos you need to memorize.
It’s one of the last games I played with a dear friend of mine, I miss her a lot everyday but watching this stream made me feel better and made me remember the best memories (actually I wanna replay the game now ^^). You’re always one of my biggest motivations in life dear nephilim.

Welcome to the start of one of the greatest Brotherly Love of gaming history.
DMC3 takes what DMC1 did and expands on the combat and pretty much perfects it. In DMC1 you really only have the Sword with Stinger and High Time, various guns, and one other weapon. Though 1 did make it's guns effective on certain types of enemies. It's a bit more "serious" than 3 though, and easier since 3 wants to be a very combat focused game.
You did really good today though, after a few runs at Cerberus the combat clicked and you got pretty far already. One tip for attacking is that you hold toward the enemy to use Stinger, and hold away from the enemy to use High Time. And if you hold the attack during it, you'll jump into the air instead of needing to manually jump.
I'm all for this journey. Can't wait for her to meet Dante v2

That was an amazing run seriously IRyS you did awesome, I can't tell you how long it took me to beat cerberus the first time I played fought him (wayyyy longer than you), you learn so quickly and grasps lots of special moves quick too like the wall run and dodges with trickster style. I'm really looking forward to next time you play it. I'm also sorry your fingers started hurting, hopefully it was just a one-time thing, it shouldn't be hurting your fingers. While Dante and Vergil may be ok there is still the 3rd bishounen XD. I know you said your lacking motivation for todays lessons lol, but know with all the work and effort you put into your projects and streams you fill "us" with motivation I can't tell you how often I'm like "IRyS is working hard, so I need to as well" You really motivate me to keep moving forward on my projects and stuff I want to do (learning JP is definitely one of them) Until next time

Pre-DMC3 was more serious. DMC3 was when Dante REALLY leaned into the wacky woo-hoo pizza man we know and love today
Also if you use stinger to go off of a ledge Dante does a huge leap. Just a neat hidden movement trick
DMC1 had a bit of sillyness, but Dante was way older and had gone through the chaacter developement of 3, so it makes sense. I honestly kinda don't like how he's still *that much* wacky woo-hoo pizza man in later games

Dante is just a wacky during and past DMC3. His evolution has been from a corny, yet serious one-liner kind of a guy to the WACKY YAHOO PIZZA MAN. And we love him for that
His WACKY YAHOO PIZZA MAN made all the sense in the world in 3, since it's a prequel, but it's kinda lame that he's still practically the same in later games

IRyS is now part of the Now, I'm Motivated gang who played this game which includes Biboo and Gura! lol I think that Gura is more of a Dante fan while Biboo is more of a Vergil fan. Meanwhile, IRyS might be more of a Dante fan but will probably eventually learn to like the edgier brother Vergil. lol Most people who have never played and touch the Devil May Cry series would think that Dante is an edgelord, serious emo boy but little did they know that he's more of a wacky woo hoo pizza man crazy uncle type who likes to party! lol Vergil is the more dark and ice cold brooding type. Dante is a chill and cool laid back dude who just happens to have super powers. He's closer to Deadpool in silliness and personality than the Batman type of characters.
Irys, you gonna clear them out in Hard Stage 3 in Holocure before proceeding the next update next week.

Also don't worry about not changing the language, Ruben Langdon and Dan Southworth are legendary as Dante & Vergi.
They are also the original voices since this game came out during that time in the PS1 & PS2 era when franchises like Resident Evil and Silent Hill had English VO even in Japan
yeah it is kinda funny that they wrote the script in japanese, then translated to english, then did the voiceovers, then translated it back to japanese and did japanese voiceovers, but that also explains the translation errors like dante randomly telling nero to stay out of his way in 5 despite nero being 50000m away or vergil asking if nero was his son after saying his son meant nothing to hin
"Don't buy drive" but no one explained why xD Drive is actually a pretty good move just awkward to use especially with the default button setup.
