15 years ago you could buy a flat in Bondi for 200K ;)
OK, maybe not, but Brisbane home owners definitely weren't asking 1.5M for a very ordinary house 15K from the CBD. Post-COVID, the world went mad and decided Australian real estate was a better investment than gold bullion.

We left Australia earlier this year after a number of generations. I've advised many people over the years to reconsider choosing Australia as a place to build a life includng my own children. Near impossible to build wealth due the high cost of living, real estate prices and especially taxes and I highly doubt the rates of capital gain will emulate what we have seen in the last going forward. If you work hard the whole month you expect to have saved a lot but for many they are in the same position as the prior month meaning they essentially worked for free. It has become a life of working to pay bills and taxes. Nothing is going to change any time soon. Both major parties have the same plan and even if spending was cut and the necessary reforms put in place it would still be 30 years plus of high taxes because of how much debt has been racked up. A brave and smart move to look for a better option for your family.

don't agree. We are living in Melbourne since past 5 years. Both of us are working and we can easily afford more than a decent lifestyle. All this housing crisis is exaggerated. May be in Sydney, but in most other Australian cities, that's not the case. Also, cost of living is going up in all western countries and not just Aus. Who would leave such a great country with excellent weather, clean air, safety, good education (free), good medicare services etc.

Everyone's situation is a little different and will experience things differently. These guys are obviously a bit lower middle class, with no established wealth/family structure in Aus. So they will need to live further away from their work, etc, and naturally struggle a bit more to get by.
They are better off in a cheaper, developing country, so they can thrive.
But you are right, there's no place like Aus 🇦🇺

@dsinghr ... good for you. The difference is that we saw past the narrative we are constantly fed about country A or about being the 'best'

@mushy111 - What makes you think we are lower middle class? How do you define that?

Yes you are correct. We went to Canada few weeks ago and stayed for 2 months to visit family..was not so great..reminded us of our life in Australia and then we then we ran away 🤣

Don’t confuse private schools for independent schools. All non government schools are private, within that there are Catholic and independent. Most of the very expensive schools are independent.

In the near future Australia, like USA, might introduce citizenship based taxation. Australian citizenship won't be so useful then.
