(not discrediting rafi in any way here he is clearly the country's greatest ever singer) many people tend to mix a celebrity's individual qualities when rating him as a screen star or star in his profession or his stardom. for eg. rajnikant. humble modest makes fun of himself etc. thats a very wrong way to look at it. personal qualities are a very separate matter. these stars are not meant to be saints. they may even be murderers or criminals or the most rude etc. but that doesnt take away what they've accomplished in their profession. big B's star status global popularity and his influence on the public and fan following etc. is unmatched. unlike rajnikant and others he is not just someone popular due to his simplicity or character etc but is actually a stalwart in his main work which is the acting department. there was even a popular saying once, or perhaps even today... "khud ko amitabh samajhta hai kya" nobody else has produced that kind of impact on the masses. and the only man at this age to be able to sustain himself in the industry. now thats stardom. and if u say that someone else is much above him and much greater etc then its way too much of an exaggeration.

Wo time alag tha...only real talent was given chance. Aaj kal jaisa nahi ki koi bhi sar utha ke singer ban sakta hai. In those days the music directors were much more talented and knowledgable about music and which singer / voice would suit which song. No wonder someone like Khemchand Prakash chose to groom a total novice like kishore kumar, who never had any formal training in music. And he went on to become a legend. Look at the voices of each singer then....so distinct. Rafi, kishore, mukesh, manna dey, hemant kumar, talat mehmood etc etc....sab ke voices alag the....after the passed away, music directors had a pressure to fill their void...hence the presence of amit kumar or kumar sanu, mohd aziz / shabbir / sonu / anwar etc. Coming back to the topic...somehow i always rate singers above any actor. Sirji...just imagine....ek 15 x15 ki cabin mein, without any props or location or actor to react to....aapko wo gaane ka sahi mood pakadna hai aur wo emotion ko aapko mehsoos karvana hai. Isnt it more difficult than acting ? imagine a shammi kapoor song sung by rafi...how difficult it must have been for them to bring out those exact emotions, feelings singing in a cabin ! We are all smitten by actors because we all make them role models for their various talents. Par kabhi singers ke baare mein ek baar ye bhi gaur karna...you will have renewed respect for them. We always comment "arey yaar, 'manzilein apni jagah' mein kya acting kiya Amitabh ne" .....lekin quite few take note how kishore kumar brought out those emotions in a singer's cabin....rongte khade kar dete hai. Same goes for the song 'ek chaturnaar' or any song of shammi kapoor. And I rate Rafi saab higher coz even the actors and singers of those times used to.

I do agree that Amitabh Bachchan ji is star of millennium, but RAFI SAHAB WAS SUPER STAR OF SUPER STARS. I MUST SAY HE WAS GOD OF SINGING & WILL REMAIN FOR EVER.
