The age when a vocalist could see huge success SIMPLY on vocal ability ended with Whitney, Celine and Mariah. Audiences stopped being satisfied with that. Mariah doesn't get enough respect. Her range and agility is unmatched, not to mention her impeccable songwriting and grand persona. She's a living legend and set the standard for generations to come.
How does she not get enough respect? Everybody talks about her being one of the best vocalists of all time. If this isn't enough for you I don't know what to say at this point.
Yes, but I think she has earned her flowers. Plus her Christmas song will get her played forever. It’s a great song and technically difficult. I really love Nicole Schzinger, I think she is underrated. P!nk is also a great vocalist and songwriter.
Is it weird that I love the category “outside” singers. I love the uniqueness about their voice and their tone. It’s so fascinating and actually pleasing to hear. Like when I hear Rihanna I know it’s her. I’ll never have to guess or think about who it is.
I’m the same! I love unique tones and quirky approaches. I think Erykah Badu def deserves to be in this category as well as Billy Holiday Feel like Debby Harry belongs on the list too. Her Blondie vocals have been very influential for both rock and pop vocalists.
That’s why Riri is my favourite. She has such a beautiful unique tone and I have yet to hear anyone imitate her vocals anywhere near correctly. She’s a unicorn 🦄
YASSSS!!! My favorite part is when you highlight the legendary vocalists (Whitney, Aretha, Barbara Streisand, Celine, and Mariah) legacy with modern day vocalists (Ariana, Tori Kelly, Leona Lewis, Jennifer Hudson) that are heavily influenced by them.I can tell Lady Gaga studied Barbara and Judy Garland as well. Her voice is pure theatre.I love how you highlight natural singers like Jazmine Sullivan, and H.E.R. I remember when H.E.R was a little girl singing like that. So when she came out I already knew she would be a star and pretty knew of her talent already. I LOVE This!!! Great video (applause )
To me Christina Aguilera is mind boggling. The fact that she has been singing in your not so conventional way and not sticking to vocal training yet 20 plus years later her voice sounds renewed and amazingly good is true testament of her how robust and insane her instrument is. We are yet to see more from her because there is the undiscovered part of her voice we haven't seen as yet until she decides to take intense vocal training like beyonce.
Xtina has barely sang in the last decade compared to her 1999-2007 period. Her commercial success had dimmed drastically. She had just started touring again after the last album, in a much smaller scale (as in less dates), not many tv performances if at all ….. she’s had more than enough time to rest her vocals, she hasnt been going non stop for well over a decade.
@@fuckurbody Yes but we also have to put into account that she was signing professionally since she was small up until her 2010-2011 where she was still active. We have to remember Bionic and Burlesque came out at that time and she needed to do extra singing and live performances for promotion. She didn’t really rest as she made an album which was lotus and it wasn’t until 2013-2018 when she actually rested somewhat as we also have to take into account “Say something” which is working in the studio non stop. That’s only 5 years of resting somewhat since she did have some performances in between. Then came Liberation(2016-17 recording it) released (2018) and she went on two tours that lasted up until the start of 2020. And, she also continued off recording a new version of Mulan doing live performances for those and then some other ones while working on her Spanish and English albums. AGUILERA came out in 2021 and she has been performing non stop for the past almost two years to say. And she is still recording according to sources a deluxe version of Aguilera alongside her English album. So, she did rest for a little, but not for much. She has been really active in the past 5 years which is surprising coming from her.

i love shakira so much, she is so beautiful and talented. I honestly think Lana is a good vocalist at this point, she's always on pitch and has great tone and resonance in her head voice
Beyoncé is definitely legendaric she’s inspired so many of the new-gen singers(Ariana grande, tori Kelly, etc) ! These People constantly praise her vocal runs and technique and say they try to mimick her
Y’all sleeping on Rihanna’s vocals man. She’s extremely underrated in regards to vocality, not success and relevancy. She has so much grit, emotions, power in her vocals. When she was on the voice as a key adviser, she did an amazing and she knows her shit man, she knows her techniques and how to attack them properly It’s sad people only acknowledge or recognize her other mainstream songs that don’t showcase her real vocal ability. People always tend to discredit or not recognize her flexibility as a vocalist in regards to range. Yeah for sure she has her days just like everyone In this video. BUT BRO RIHANNA IS A TRUE SINGER YOU CAN TELL FROM THE GRIT IN HER VOICE AND EMOTIONS SHE PRESENTS IN EVERY NOTE SHE SINGS.
You have put my thoughts in to words. Thankyou! This is what I have been saying about rihanna. She knows her shit and she knows how to really deliver the emotions. Some one once said" when Rihanna grabs the mic you're about to feel exactly what she's feeling"
Mariah had everything to be a legend and she inspired even more than Whitney or Celine or Aretha. Mariah was a full package of physical beauty, writing/composing skills, 90's to 2000's branding, and legendary range of vocals, plus a fairytale of ups and downs. With all her achievements, she could still have more, just with the right people around her.
Never a full package as her stage performances left a lot to be desired. She rarely toured and most of her concerts were vocally dubbed abs airbrushed. She cannot compare to Whitney nor Celine

Both whitney and Celine Lip the climax of her most "difficult songs" in her prime unlike Mariah and they sing basic songs that anyone can sing, Not even remotely close to the complexity of Mariah's songs. Don't compare cover singers to real artists, songwriter, producer, composer, musical genius... They are not in the same league, Mariah is up there with Stevie Wonder, MJ, she doesn't deserve these comparisons. She is a better vocalist AND artist

I'd put Sia in the Intuitive category, she is definetely not a very technique singer, but she got a good technique ideed and her vocals are pure Soul, she's absolutely one of the best singers currently when it comes singing with emotion. It's a pity she's losing her voice...
I disagree with Jhene Aiko. I believe she belongs in the atypical category. Her style is very her own, her voice is distinct. I love Ciara and her music but she is not a natural born vocalist so hence basic and her music is average. Taylor is basic but only vocally, regardless she has influenced an entire generation with her style, music writing, and melding pop with other styles of music. If you have seen Jhene's Tiny Desk concert, I feel that removes her from basic. Her voice is literally healing and angelic. And on top of that, her music is timeless, iconic, and memorable. All her as an individual and that is what sets her apart. Yes, she is not a ballad artist, but yet her music reaches all audiences, young and old. And she proves you don't have to sing like Alicia Keys or Beyonce to have music reach people.
really thank you that was so long to make !!! 4 hours (at least) for each category including researches (itvs, performances), what to write and video editing
Amy lee would def go into unique for me. I absolutely adore they way she sings and I wish she would be included in more of these vocalist videos. I feel like she gets overlooked as a vocalist because she doesn’t sing pop or rnb but she’s truly talented.
Jazmine Sullivan's vocals are legendary status. In years to come her vocals will be rediscovered by another generation and she will be imulated, technically she already is. She is the best!
Ok you missed Keke Wyatt...she is a BEAST! And ever heard of the Clark Sister's? They changed the gospel game! And Beyonce is LEGENDARY and Alicia Keys is basic!
Yeah the creator is wrong for not putting them in. Alicia is kinda basic, I agree, but Beyoncé, while she can sing, she ain't Aretha, Whitney or Mariah 🥴🤷🏾♂️, and that's not shade, that's facts
Agree with the first few, disagree on Alicia and Beyoncé. I am a big Alicia fan, although she may not fit in the confirmed category. Beyoncé has amazing technique and I think her lower gritty registers and growls are the only interesting thing about her voice, to me, but that’s totally personal. I prefer quirky singers and deep powerful voices
I'd put Leona in confirmed. Notorious for her vocals and nothing else, and talented since childhood, and in her prime compared to the greats of course. Nicole is definitely confirmed as well.
Mariah is my all time favourite vocalist but whenever I see Whitney, I just want to cry. Yes, the artists are responsible for themselves but let’s be real here; the US media habitually disrespects & denigrates legendary women. The media and sadly, the public contributed to Whitney’s early demise. How do talentless people dare to comment on Whitney’s and Mariah’s vocals during her later years? Like S T F U
I know the queen of Hip Hop Soul has her issues, mostly pitch and lack of range, but Mary J Blige has HELLA soul and is intuitive as fuck. Put some respect on her name. Another omission is one of her biggest inspirations, Anita Baker.
Brandy should be in the confirmed vocalist tier. She is leaps and bounds ahead of almost everyone else in that category. And since when has Alicia Keys been a "confirmed vocalists"? She has a lot of widely known "issues". And Beyoncé should be in the Legendary category since she's already better than a few of the vocalists in that category.
i was expecting those comments. my video is not based on technique only. as much as i love beyoncé i dont think she vocally inspired many generations yet her technique is amazing but i really do not consider she has her place between whitney and mariah (the only one i placed as high is lara bc of her IMPECABLE technique + longetivity) About Brandy she is a confirmed vocalist for sure, but sill i consider her as a freestyler when that's what she does the most (being a freestyler doesnt mean she does not have technique) at the end my video is subjective so i'm the only one who can say where these artists belong in my own video lol
@Butterfly Era Beyoncé has a worldwide impact but i dont think she does yet vocally ! A little bit like lady gaga she is mostly praised for her performing skills, being the total package also shes still "young" to belong to this catégory.
@Butterfly Era i believe the very New générations of singers is inspired by her vocally like Perrie, Tori, Dinah etc. But thats very small comparing to Mariah, Aretha etc. Impact

Please don’t hate me I’m like the biggest Beyoncé fan but am I the only who feels like she should ease on the growls on the high notes for now? I’m not saying she has never not growled high notes but since the FWT I’ve been wanting to hear more high notes that weren’t growled
@butterflies and waffles and when she sings ave maria I'd love it if she sang the "ave dominus" without growling. When she sings freedom not everything needs to be growled. *Sometimes* during the Crazy in Love riff and the "yoouurr loooveee" after the riff, I wish she didn't growl it. same with songs like I Care, APESHIT, If I Were a Boy, Halo, 1+1, Love On Top, etc. (at some points in the songs where she growls for like 8 lines straight) The only growl I really want to stay is the Me, Myself, and I growl.
@@butterfliesandwaffles6335 I love her growls sometimes but when all the belts are growling it pulls me out of the songs and the performance in general
This argument is tired. She had background singers who were mixed into her older songs that they demo’d. Ashanti and Cristina Milian have already confirmed they didn’t ghost sing for her, nor did she steal from them. Ashanti sings background and adlibbed on 2 of Jlos songs, wrote 1 of them and was in the video for it. Cristina Milian did the chorus to Play. And Natasha Ramos sang background on 4 of Jlos songs, including Jenny from the block. Brandi gave Jlo her song “Ryde or Die” and Jlo recorded it, and left Brandi’s adlib vocals. That’s it. This practice has been done by Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Britney Spears, Toni Braxton, even Beyonce.

If you watch her tour videos from 2019/2020 you will see that she is actually very consistent.
This was a great video to highlight the difference in singers, without bashing them( as I saw many of those before on youtube) cause we should remember that singing is a artform and everybody should be allowed to expres their art. As it will resonate with someone. But we should also acknowledge that some people just have amazing talent and skill beyond comprehension. But al types of artists are appreciated.
Loved this video it was for the most part spot on. I want to point out how I loved that u put singer JoJo in the confirmed vocalist category one because she rarely gets the recognition of how great she is really, and 2 she rightfully so deserves the placement that u gave her. Because I've tried to tell people for the longest that what makes JoJo one of the greatest to ever do it is because she's crafted her own vocal singing style that's unique to her and without really sounding like other singers when it comes to her technique! So to see someone else see what I see I loved that!! So thank u so much for this video and giving respect to one of my favorite stand alone singers in the game Ms. JoJo!!❤👐🏾
I think Tori and Ariana really have found themselves in recent years. They should be confirmed vocalists especially Tori. Beyonce is a legend at this point

Yea cause I was watching dream girls the other night she and Anika Noni Rose sing circles around her. I wish they would’ve given her more songs in the movie
Here’s the main difference between singers and vocalists for me: singers make me go “Aw that’s cute” and vocalists make me cry, piss myself, shit myself, and throw up.
I really enjoy your videos! I know you tend to focus on pop/rnb singers but it would be lovely to have a video on gospel singers because honestly, there are so many phenomenal gospel singers out there. And if I think about it, most of the great singers you feature started singing in church😊.

I agree with almost everything except the following: You need to switch Xtina with Alicia. She IS the confirmed voice of her generation. I enjoy Alicia and she is talented musically with a soulful voice but nowhere near Xtina’s vocal level. Yes they both can belt/scream at times which is not always pleasing, but Xtina vocal range and soul is incomparable to Alicia. I would also like to include a few other great vocalist: Tamia, Deborah Cox, Toni Braxton, Tamar Braxton, Keke Wyatt, Morisette :)
I was rocking with you til we got to Alicia Keys being a confirmed vocalist! Stop. What’s interesting is when you talked about singers seeing their voices as secondary. Alicia has ALWAYS said she considers herself a musician more than a vocalist. But somehow you see differently. Idk man. She’s far too inconsistent to be in that category with those vocalists.
I think he more so meant that she’s that she’s had a lot of experience and compared to other singers her musicianship and songwriting skills are undeniably matched prince gave her a co-sign you know he don’t like nobody 😂😂
I think her inconsistency has a lot to do with her comments in the video. She writes tons of tricky higher notes, even though she’s clearly an alto. She likes to push herself. If she stayed in her natural range more, she would be much more consistent. But I agree, she may fit better into another category.
Amazing analysis!!! Everything sounds good to me, also I have to believe that even if you weren’t great as a kid you can still become a vocalist of your own. Even though I don’t like Lea Michele bc of last years she is definitely barbras legacy.

I think Erykah Badu def deserves to be in this category as well as Billy Holiday
Feel like Debby Harry belongs on the list too. Her Blondie vocals have been very influential for both rock and pop vocalists.
That’s why Riri is my favourite. She has such a beautiful unique tone and I have yet to hear anyone imitate her vocals anywhere near correctly. She’s a unicorn 🦄
Same EVEN THEY HAVE THE BEST MUSIC
Yep
Thanks for mentionning h.e.r she is amazingly talented and ignored in vocal vidéos !

Yup like every new artist today will say Beyonce is their inspiration not just in singing but as overall artist

As long as You put The Vocal Trinity : Celine, Mariah dan Whitney, on the top of Your list, then I'll be okay with the rest of the list :)
Mariah Carey is uncomparable. She's the greatest
Mariah Carey is the best singer and vocalist ever. 🎤
Mariah had everything to be a legend and she inspired even more than Whitney or Celine or Aretha. Mariah was a full package of physical beauty, writing/composing skills, 90's to 2000's branding, and legendary range of vocals, plus a fairytale of ups and downs. With all her achievements, she could still have more, just with the right people around her.
...in her dream.
Never a full package as her stage performances left a lot to be desired. She rarely toured and most of her concerts were vocally dubbed abs airbrushed. She cannot compare to Whitney nor Celine
@@Bahia82 The concert are not dubbed but edited in studio for the audio quality For VHS or recorded in two takes and unfortunately they ruin her voice, muffled the true Power and Resonance of her voice like MSG. Mariah has stage presence, do you need proof? lol and is praised by many people, that's why on every credible list Mariah's live performances top whitney and celine , so what you said is totally subjective.

I agree with everyone except Sia and Jessie J. I'd say Sia is intuitive and Jessie J is in the confirmed.

Rihanna is just not born to be a live singer. She does good stuff in the studio.

Jlo barely uses her vocals tho?
I love her as an actress and admire her as a business woman.
Because she barely has any lol. She can hardly find the key most times.
That’s it. Here’s the main difference between singers and vocalists for me: singers make me go “Aw that’s cute” and vocalists make me cry, piss myself, shit myself, and throw up.
26:01 so heavenly pleasing tone
Great video. I think breath control is so important to keeping your vocal cords healthy
Young Jojo amazed me. The effortless singing wow
I really enjoy your videos! I know you tend to focus on pop/rnb singers but it would be lovely to have a video on gospel singers because honestly, there are so many phenomenal gospel singers out there. And if I think about it, most of the great singers you feature started singing in church😊.
Merci ❤️ sometimes i include some gospel singers but not most of the Time thats right !
How are Christina and JHud not confirmed? They are the millennial incomparables.
26:18 omg Celine has taken me by surprise. Her stance screams legendary
for me Beyonce sh's legendary vocalists
In technique only there's others vocally way more superior
@@blairturner139 precisely I do not agree because for me I find that Beyonce does things with her voice that other great vocalists would not do with so much flow
Loved the way you put Tori in Celine's legacy!
Christina Aguilera ~ Voice of a Generation ~ Legendary
This video is 30 minutes long, i hope you understand that i was not able to include all singers i wanted to talk about !
REMINDER: MY VIDEO IS SUBJECTIVE (i said it 100th times in the video) NOT FACTUAL

Class these singers in the comment section ! 31:23
I have a serious question: why would you care listening to the legendary vocalist (of your choice) if they dont possess the quality of your-labeled-intuitive vocalists??? Why would you buy a record if they dont sell the emotion but hit notes. And when you mention confirmed vocalists, I doubt there is any other artist of our generation that is more “confirmed”/praised than Christina Aguilera. Maybe you can research more online next time. This categorization is maybe unnecessary: perhaps singers vs. artists would be more appropriate
@@TKK765 thanks for your recommendation, i'll try my best to fit all of your expectations about xtina in my personal opinion based videos :)
Hey, I was wondering if you'd keep featuring demi on your channel since they identify as non binary now, since you seem to only do female singers...?
That trio 90's woman singer is on the same tier level
Exactly Alicia before Brady, Jazzmine or Christina 😆😆 quality list
Definitely agree
I think he more so meant that she’s that she’s had a lot of experience and compared to other singers her musicianship and songwriting skills are undeniably matched prince gave her a co-sign you know he don’t like nobody 😂😂
@@Aanguchihaa you are clearly misinformed where her songwriting is concerned. Prince cosigned because of her talent, not her songwriting.
Even though I don’t like Lea Michele bc of last years she is definitely barbras legacy.
i don’t really know what was the end goal of this video tbh 😂 but jazmine is a TRUE VOCALIST. should be in confirmed category but honestly a lot of these choices are just weird.
Amazing and really interesting video! I would love to see more Leona Lewis! :D And I would place her in the confirmed vocalists category
Bleeding Love ..🔥
I feel like Jojo is very underrated her voice is amazing
i love rihanna's voice
