I've been reading about and watching shows WW2 aircraft for 55 years. This is the first I've seen or heard of the JU252 and the JU352. MOST INTERESTING !!
Thank you for the valuable video! I've been a military enthusiast for about 50 years, but this is the first time I've heard of this aircraft. There is very little information about this type of aircraft in Japan, so your video is very much appreciated.
The 252 was conceived of during the initial phase of the war, and at a time when precious raw materials, like aluminum, were prioritized for fighter and bomber aircraft production. A transport aircraft did not get that type of priority, so Junkers was asked to build it mainly out of wood and calling it the 352. It was a serviceable and quite good aircraft, but by now airborne supply was the least of their worries, and they needed all available factory space to pump out as many fighters and bombers as possible.
Yes, I had heard of both the Ju-252 and Ju-352 through their descriptions in a reference book, "Aircraft of World War II" by Kenneth Munson. Apparently there has been very little written about either aircraft; does anyone know of a scale model kit of these types?
I've known about the 252 and 352 for many years. As a soldier stationed in Germany during the cold was many German WW2 soldiers told me that these "new fangled" birds were not as reliable, popular or iconic as their beloved "Tante JU"!
I would have to assume that these statements were more based on pure numbers and legacy than actual facts. The 252/352 performed quite well, a fact that could be supported by the number of surviving aircraft after WW2 (13 out of a total of 46 built). Keeping the heavy losses during the final stages of the war in mind (4 were lost on a single mission in 1945 alone), this doesn't support the "not reliable as" theory imho
The Ju 252 could've been a world-beater, but the 352 - produced solely for economic reasons - was nothing to write home about. It's yet another tale of what you want, against what you can afford.
Ironically one of the reasons for the redesign - the availability of the Jumo211 - became a non-issue later during the war. Classic example of being too conservative and thus shooting yourself in the foot 😊
@@PremierHistory Rather a recap, we do have our own Musuem with all the Planes we used + On Top a Ju 52 restored. Many Models aswells. But having Time to go there and having it on your Phone are different
not to hate but you’ve made basic errors in research or perhaps a script error. the Ju-352 used lower powered engines and heavier wooden & steel components so relative weight increases compared to the Ju-252. This meant weight had to be saved somewhere compared to the Ju-252. this was achieved by slightly reducing its load carrying capacity & drastically reducing the fuel capacity. this made sense as not many long range missions were being flown and available of fuel was becoming an issue. this and slightly higher drag meant the Ju-352 was significantly shorter range than Ju-252 and was slower in cruise & max speeds. Your video claims the Ju-352 was lower weight & longer range to the Ju-252 are wrong. however it was a far more practical aircraft more suited to common Luftwaffe missions.
I noticed that the cockpit area bares a resemblence to the cockpit area of the C-130. This may be "parallel evolution" but could also be the influence of German aircraft on US post war designs. Or were former Junkers designers working for Lockeed in the early '50s?
Yes I knew about the 252 , but since it wasn't as elegant as the Italian 3 engines' or as grand looking as it's big sister the JU 90/290 I just skipped over it.
I am definitely not a bot voice, something I’ve considered in the past but not quite sure how to go about it. Let’s see if something comes up in the future
In this day and age, where there is so much AI generated content (both videos and comments) that is indeed a concern. Not so long ago, I wouldn't mind a TH-cam creator not showing their face. In this day and age, I would prefer that they did as it would give him more credibility.
Don't sweat it....anyone with the smallest bit of common sense realizes that you are anything but an AI character😂. On another note: Excellent video about a chapter of aviation history that is rarely ever touched 👍@@PremierHistory
I believe that’s what the Spitfire was going to be called, except it didn’t bring about enough fear in the enemy, that’s the way the story goes at least!
It's interesting that the Luftwaffe didn't work on further developing the Ju-90/290/390 rather than splitting off the effort for the Ju-252, which shared so much of the Ju-90 design.
The reality was that Ju-90 was a moribund project until the Military wanted an aircraft to replace the FW-200 condor in U-boat support & the He-177 proved unreliable. The Ju-290 was very large, took much resources, used up 4 in demand BMW-801s and in no way complimented the Ju-52 as a workhorse. you could say the Ju-252 had similar issues but it used less in demand Jumo 211 engines, less engines, smaller & used less engines/ resources. The Ju-352 even made more sense.
I guess the fact that it’s my real voice and not AI makes it all the worse? Pronunciations vary depending on people’s accents, sometimes it simply can’t be helped!

Outstanding video and presentation.

Never heard of the 252 or the 352. Thanks for sharing

Very interesting. Never heard of either. I was struck by how much the cockpit looked like that of a C-130.

Good Video and Information. but little bit bad KI with Translation mistakes 😁
What mistakes exactly are you referring to?
For example: KI says "Jonas" to the Junkers JU 52. KI also says "falsches Jäger" and not Fallschirmjäger.

She was to costly; so they go over to the Ju352. The Fighter emergency program stopped this plane after building 25; too
Too costly at a time where money could be used somewhere else for the war effort
It is said it had a pressurized cabin in its civil passenger model.
Potentially, not certain of that Lars
