Mikes Song, Weekapaug Groove from 12/31/95. Video of the show does exist, and it’s a great show if you ever choose to livestream or multipart a whole show.
This was such a great show. Listen to the whole show at some point when you can,It doesn’t disappoint. Dec 95,one of the best months in the bands history
Don’t apologize for listening to phish. We appreciate you listening to PHISH welcome to the PHAMLY brother. Keep listening and keep PHISHING we need to get you to a show next year would definitely need to run into you. Love what you’re doing. Keep it going.
Great version but hope this doesn’t eliminate the 11/22/97 Halley’s Comet from the suggestion pool! Would actually be a great way for you to see just how different each version of each song can be. Stoked for this reaction tomorrow though 🫡
If you really wanna be moved to tears by a ballad of theirs, 5/7/94 Fast Enough For You will do it yo you. This is Trey at in his top form. Thanks for the reviews.
This is a good one to listen to on your own. It short and sweet only about 6 minutes. The solo will absolutely blow you away. It's like listening to someone channel The emotions of having their heart broken losing someone that they love into their guitar!!! Please let me know what you think. It is really that insane.
Glad you're having so much fun . FWIW I hate to drive you back to a live one but after 35+ years of listening to phish (since late 80's), Page's best paino solo ever is the 6 min outro on Squriming coil (THE GREATEST 6 MIN OF PIANO I HAVE EVER HEARD) from A live one. It has become tradition for Squirning coil to be a set closer and for the other 3 to walk off mid song and let Page finish with a piano solo. Regardless, whatever you choose will be an exciting new experience. Isn't it crazy how they have flown under the mainstream radar for nearly 40 years but yet pretty much anybody who listens and gives them a chance leaves with there jaws dropped.
Nice pick! Long time phish fan here but I've never heard this! That's what I love about this band, you could listen for 20 years and hear something new on the daily! Thank you, keep at it!
Oh, this is an excellent excerpt from an excellent set! So glad you found this, definitely one of my all time favorites. Looking forward to hearing your reaction to it L33!
Fantastic L33 You never disappoint! Go to 21:08 to hear how the name of the song is pronounced. I would second the votes for a Mike’s>Weekapaug for your next reaction. Whatever you do, keep it 90s!
Killing it as always! This was fun, as I haven't heard this show before, so we were hearing it for the first time together. Go back to that 6/14/2000 from last week and do the Twist and Fukuoka Jam! If you liked the Melt, this one will take you to a different dimension! There's so many incredible Phish moments still on the table for you.
After watching many of your reviews of Phish, it’s awesome how you(like many of us) get entranced and just pause when they steer into something unexpected. Time for you to hit up a live show!
There are so many great periods of the various versions of Phish. The entire Fall tour, particularly in December of 1995 is (for me, and many others) one of their highest peaks. Such a great mix of their ferocious energy starting to mix their more group oriented groove based jamming that would define the upcoming years. There is a reason this show was the very first of the Live Phish series they started releasing in the late 90's.
God, do I miss Machine Gun Trey and Dark Phish!! Loved old Halley's!! 95 was prob their craziest darkest year tbh. Jams would get downright scary! LET'S GO!!! Do WENT GIN if you haven't!!
You should do the album "Rift". Then once you've heard the originals, listen to a live version of each song to see how the band plays around with them (Maze) or plays them to a tee (Horn).
Now my friend, you are truly starting to hear what makes Phish. Most of the best shows have amazing segues, the humble “>” does not do justice to the music it represents 😊 Glad you’re having fun, appreciate the videos!
Initially, Halley's Comet used to be saved for the occasions when Richard "Nancy" Wright would materialize, as this was written and sung by him. Nancy retired this song on 08/17/89, vowing to never sing it again. My recording of this gig exists somewhere. Phish brought it back in 1993, with Trey taking on the lead vocals...
Keeping the hits comin Lee! Such a great show, and this is definitely a big peak highlight from a stellar second set! Maze next. Please. Or the Mike's Groove from Big Cypress.
@@L33Reacts You need to hear the NICU from Northern Island Creddt Union venue. They wove it in and out of the entire set and really highlighted it (2023)
Ok, I'm coming around. When I reached a certain unnamed age(old), I decided I would learn new things every day. Coming here facilitates my quest quite well. Thanks L33, for the incredible journey, such a pretty one today. I haven't looked at my hands like that since my LSD days, lol. Blessings all.
If you like the piano solo at the end of nicu, pick a squirming coil from recent time, most of the time they will leave the stage and let page finish out the set solo on the piano, always powerful
You should definitely do a full reaction to a Phish studio album at some point, (regardless of what some individuals might try to claim about there being no reason to listen to anything but live - this is incorrect). I would recommend Rift or Billy Breathes if you want to listen to their best studio work in terms of albums as singular pieces of art rather than a collection of compositions like their first few albums (those are still worth checking out to, but Rift, Billy Breathes, Hoist and Story of the Ghost are the best from a standpoint of album craft. Becoming familiar with the studio catalogue definitely helps to provide another perspective of the band. Though they are famed for the way the shine on stage, the boys have made some great albums as well and it is interesting to hear studio cuts of songs that have become iconic live staples.
Awesome pick! The way they go right back into the jam at the end of NICU is some next level shit. The one from 97 is great too but it’s good that you’re hearing some 95 as well
"And I see you". Phish loves their mondegreens. People should get over themselves... any phish is better than most other things. Anyway, ">" and ->" in a set list are read as "into", and aren't the same. ">" is probably a quick stop and launch or something implying no gap between the songs. "->" is your true transition, like the halley's into nice here. Phish has all the sides. Listening to songs is a great introduction, but getting into sets like this is how you're really going to meet the boys. It's always in the songs you don't expect it where they break out the magic.
This set was what I wanted to see. Would have loved to catch the whole thing but this this pair of tunes is as good a selection as could be made. The Foam in the first set should be experienced at some point as well.
You should also check k out ‘the lizards’. They dont really improve on it , but its an amazing composition. I always feel like i’m playing legend of zelda when I hear it.

You got some heat over your Phish reaction? Last week? SOAM. I love split open. That's an oldie but goodie. Maybe it was the version. The Japanese Meatstick was cool.
Don't let the pedantic perfectionists get you down, last week was fine. Objectively the wrong choice for that song or that show, but fine. Another for the Mike's Groove on Slip Stitch and Pass.
I hope you reailze that Fukuoka is widely recognized as one of the peaks of Phish's entire career and the people that think it was the wrong choice are not only an incredibly small minority but are actually discrediting any future recommendations they might make by criticizing it lol

@@newusernamehere4772 I love it, but it's really important to some people that we only do the absolute "best," so probably the "Twist" from that show and a "Split Open and Melt" from '93 or '94 would be more "perfect." I think we're setting him up for disappointment if he expects his first show to be entirely historic performances that everyone likes. I also don't think you can say 1994 is best if you prefer funky or ambient Phish, so arguing over what's the ultimate is silly. I'm not sure that Machine Gun Trey would help me through a trip...
It is N.I.C.U. a play on "in an intensive care unit" against the lyrics "and I see you". They play a lot on words that sound like something else or each other. Much like Halley's Comet sounds like Hell is Coming. They also do something similar in Moma Dance with the moment ends lyrics. I am sorry people were unhappy with your video last week. Everybody's a critic these days. It's hard to navigate 40 years of a band that tours a lot and plays three hours sets every night when you are just getting started. Ignore the critics.
