      Yup. The saddest part is someone was probably really proud of that and thought it was subtle attention to detail. *facepalm* They should have just gone full camp with it at that point and had him twirling a moustache and ranting in comedy fashion. It'd at least have made for some hilarious clips, like with the Street Fighter movie.

      Highlander has a problem how the creators sign off on some shit is beyond me. Lets take the hole "amount of heads taken = power". The reality is....not really...case and point, Duncan who had less kills than both Connor and Kell, takes Connors quickening and has the power to beat Kell. They literally rendered the entire premise of why the bad guy is powerful pointless. Beginning of movie "Its quantity!" end of movie "It's about quality!". Quality over quantity actually makes more sense in this scenario. It's not like Kell took 4000 heads.
      The reality is, they shouldn't to have Duncan take Connor's head or vice versa. Look at some of the villains Duncan killed. I mean, age matters "ancient" immortals didn't live that long because they suck.
      1. 3 of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse all dated to at least the bronze age.
      2. Grayson who was like 2000 years old.
      3. Damon Case who was 1000 years old and literally lived for the game and fought every immortal he came across as he felt the game was his divine duty. How many dudes did he kill over his thousand years? Probably would call Kell's 600 something rookie numbers.
      Having a guy that is the same age as Connor.."cheating" his way to a high head count, does not make for a compelling imposing villain. The "amount" of heads you take is irrelevant to the value of those heads. I mean, It's like saying I absorbed the knowledge of 300 people that play VR fencing or I absorbed the knowledge from 5 people from history that were actually accomplished sword duelists.

      @@tsdobbi I have some points on which I don't agree with you. Duncan did take Connors quickening but that did not make him stronger than Kell. It was obvious in their fight that Kell was heavily overpowering him while also holding back in order to play and taunt him, Duncan only won after a quick sequence of attacks and some deus ex machina jump that caught Kell by surprise, so I don't agree that they rendered the premise pointless. You are speculating that someone like Damon Case probably took more heads than Kell since he was living for the game and battled every immortal he came across. Thing is immortals aren't found so often. The whole initial premise of the TV show was that it was the time of The Gathering which explained why Duncan was coming across so many of his former enemies from centuries ago. If you look at the Highlander wiki he took something like 70-80 heads during the whole show and the show takes place for a period of roughly 6 years from 1992 to 1998. That is nearly half of his total 174, so it took him nearly 400 years to amass 90-100 and Kell is basically close to Connor's age I checked in the wiki he is actually 77 years older than Duncan no more so these numbers of 172 and 661 don't seem so ilogical or rookie numbers. You make the argument that Kell shouldn't be stronger than Connor just because of the amount of heads, thing is you don't know how powerful the immortals Kell killed were. Also I think I read somewhere that the head count actually is more important than the quality because it gives you raw pure strength, if you actually pay attention to the fights Kell is not a very good swordsman, his technique is very sloppy and he mainly pressures both Connor and Duncan with brute force strikes not quality swordplay. This is just my opinion of course, you can add something if you don't agree :)

      @@tsdobbi The two producers of the franchise really come off like cokeheads, so I wouldn't be surprised if all these movies were only put into production when they started running low on cash. They put that tacky JVC sign into the background of Conner's death scene then later pretended nobody knew how it got there.

    I've got a much simpler idea for a Highlander movie.
    A roster of veteran warriors versed in melee and hand-to-hand combat from all over the world are plucked out of their original time periods and brought to the present day. (Think of it as a blend of the original Highlander and Deadliest Warrior.)
    They're immortal and can only be killed by decapitation as you would expect, but this time whoever kills all the other immortals gets to become mortal and go back to their original time period.
    This sets up an interesting dichotomy because not every warrior might want to go back to where they came from, so their only options are to go into hiding from the other immortals or allow themselves to be killed and just get it over with.
    Immortals can obviously team up to improve their odds of winning, but towards the end some very emotionally difficult battles will have to be fought among friends.
    Because if even one of them wants to go back, the rest have to die.
    There can be only one.
    Each quickening grants supernatural powers based on which warrior was killed. So if a ninja is downed, the guy who killed him gets some form of ninja art.
    It's called the quickening because immortals that get a kill-streak going have an insane advantage over pacifists who have been playing keepaway, allowing them to rack up even more kills at an exponential rate. It literally enquickens the game.
    The main villain could be a power-crazed maniac like the Kurgen who enjoys fighting, but is a complete hedonist and has no interest in going back home, giving him a reason not to kill the protagonist (who is, naturally, from the Scottish highlands) the first time they fight so the hero in turn has the opportunity to stage a heroic rematch.
    He's already killed about half of the other immortals and is so strong that whole groups of them are now child's play to him, so he spends the majority of the story watching other people fight, gloating, occasionally interfering because it amuses him, and looking bored waiting around for someone worthy enough to face him.
    The story would create a separate timelime so that the absence of the immortals from their original time periods doesn't effect the normal course of history. So immortals from fairly recent parts of history have a good chance of finding a biography of their own lives, effectively revealing their entire future. Meaning that an immortal who previously wanted to return might discover that he meets an ignominious end anyway and is effectively robbed of all purpose, or an immortal that previously thought that his life had been ruined might discover some unexpected change that makes it worth pursuing the prize.
    There's no rule against fighting on holy ground because then one of the immortals could completely ruin the game by becoming a monk and living on a monastery forever.
    -- But any immortals that *do* fight on holy ground can't use any supernatural powers gained from quickenings, leveling the playing field between those with lots of kills and those without.

      It's sad when someone can rattle off a better script in a YT comment off the cuff than something that cost millions to produce. • @amanofnoreputation2164
      @amanofnoreputation2164 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bevel2414 I've found that weird too.
      I used to think it was just arrogance on my part that I thought I could write better than some people already in the industry (and for a long time it was and still is) but now I see that there are a lot of conflicting interests at work in the art business; Even if a creative has the talent and skill, he may still lack the proper perspective and be under pressure from all kinds of different directions such that he cannot actually pull off nearly as good of a story as someone like me who has total leisure. It really is fascinating how nothing incurs failure so reliably as success.

    • @amanofnoreputation2164
      @amanofnoreputation2164 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@boxtank5288 Yeah -- if two immortals were taken from the same time period, then that would add an all new layer of complexity to everything because not only would said immortals already have beef or companionship with each other the instant the game began, if either of them gets the prize, the others are erased from history.
      So in the case of two hated rivals, even if one killed the other in the original timeline, if the defeated party won the game, they would effectively save their own life because their rival wouldn't go back with them; the timeline would be altered into a new timeline where their rival died under mysterious circumstances before their fated encounter.
      (Alternatively the winner of the prize gets to rework fate as he sees fit so that everybody can get their own "prize" I.E the kind of life they were striving to make form themselves sin the game of the immortals. I don't like this alternative because it provides too much motivation for the villain to be anything but a hedonist. The way to get around that is have people assume the prize to be the initial version first, but then there's a twist where it's revealed that the prize is far more lucrative than just going back home.)
      As for Blackbeard, I'm going to have to do some research, but he would be exactly the kind of figure that would make a good addition to the game.

    Honestly not a fan of Pat’s personality here, especially the Scotland tour jokes.

    This movie was awful. Lambert was too old. I loved the original film, even though it's terribly flawed, but the sequels are a disaster. The show didn't have thar aura of the first film either.
