hello ! dhoni was may have been Captain cool always in control but extremely aggressive in his attitude and execution. He was one of the most aggressive batsman ever and the greatest finisher of all times, better than what Kohli is today. In fact Kohli learnt how to finish matches watching Dhoni in action from the non strikers end.
U r misreading the situation. In this match Pakistan had a decent score on board. The biggest flaw with Pakistan is the lack of a world class spinner & lack of understanding of the wicket by their pacers. They don't play as per the conditions. They would have played the same bowling lineup at Gaddafi stadium.
The second biggest problem is the lack of intent by their top batters especially against spinners.
