    -------------------------------
    This’ll Do Farm is a 6th generation family farm located in Southeast Iowa that is run by a father-son duo Tork and Sawyer. Sawyer is the force behind his family farm taking care of hog barns, along with farming the family’s acres. Sawyer promotes agriculture by recording his day-to-day life with his dad (Tork) on the farm. Both Tork and Sawyer have a burning desire to grow the farm bigger and bigger. Despite only being 20 years old, Sawyer has an old school work ethic with an innovative approach towards implementing agricultural technology and practices. Sawyer’s mission is to showcase agriculture in a positive light. And be one of the faces of agricultural education and innovation.

    Question?
    What about installing a modulating condensing boiler inside, so you can have a snow melt system as well as radiant floor heating on the floors to keep the pigs warm?
    As well as having an efficient heating system?

    Any plans to put in a methane digester. In CA the farmers are investing and making money on electricity. You still get the fertilizer, less the smell. Check at your state and federal levels with manufacturers for grants. Hemp may also be a great product to grow. Oil, protein, Fibre.
    Ask the slat builders for barns with digesters. The builder may be a good resource.

    Nice barn
    The pads under the feeders are concrete?
    Do you have some information or footage on how it was poured?

    • @torktalks5573
      @torktalks5573 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are poured in place on roofing felt. Using 2”x4” frames with blocks in the corners so as not to have a 90 point at the corners. Fiber in the mix. These pads are 57”x48”. They will last about 8 years if you do nothing to them. We typically Armor-Rock them after 3 years and then they’re good for another 10 years. Keeps a lot of wear off the slats.
      Thanks for the question and for watching!

    • @torktalks5573

      Lots of variables in that. Wean finish or grow finish? Pen size? Feeder style? All make a difference but I’d say 25 yrs on the low end and 40 on the high side. A wean finish barn will have 20 less groups of pigs through it in 20 years vs a grow finish barn.

    • @ejking7759
      @ejking7759 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on your maintenance as well as where you got them from. I have some that will be 40 years old next year and they still have 5-10 years left, but they’ve been patched with quick crete. They came from G&M Sales. I also have some that will be 35 next year that probably have 5 years left and have also been patched. They are from hog slat.
