I heard what started the Fraser River gold rush was trade between two men and a native fellow in fort Kamloops, New Caledonia sometime around 1850.. Men went by the names of James Houston, Ferdinand Boulanger-aka Peter Baker, and an unnamed native man. Danold Mclean chief factor for the HBC in fort Kamloops sent word, and gold, to governor Sir James Douglas after learning of the discovery and trade between the men. Gold was later shipped to SF for smelting and refining. Archie your waist coat/vest is missing a button! Great vid, Happy trails out there all!
Gold rushes are always fun history lessons. The people who consistently made the most money were the outfitter stores, saloons, hustling women , scammers. Like most other booms, the people who scored big and made money blew through it and ended up with nothing. Books on the Frasier gold rush are available in some stores along the Frasier canyon. Good video.
It's cool finding out Simon Fraser is my great, great grandfather!,,Only found out about 25years ago when we had our Family Reunion with the Frasers that still live in BC.Patents knew but never cared to tell us kids I guess.lol..So now we have the Reunion 1 year in Alberta, then next one in BC and back and forth..I think being a relative I should be entitled to many many claims.lol
A little resource company by the name of Westhaven Ventures thinks they may have found the "Load" that supplies the tributaries where the 1850's gold rush was discovered.
Year I was born 1994. Can't believe they still looked like that back then
Great job on documenting important history of B.C.

Simon Fraser is unsung? One of Canada's best Universities is named after him. People know his name, trust me. especially in BC.
homes costing $500 sold for $100 as crowds prepared to abandon San Francisco to strike out for the Fraser River gold rush ~
Most of the people came from San Francisco when the earthquake destroyed it, that is why Vancouver is San Francisco's sister city.
Cheep
