I am following keto for last six months and lost 20 lbs . In my recent blood test found out I have high LDL, trygliceride and HDL are normal. Can you please create a video about it , like why it happens,do we need to worry about it ,any natural remedies etc. Thanks Dr. in advance.
Thank you for the information doctor. I’m keto carnivore for healing going on month 3. Prior to keto I had severe mental health issues, asthma and have the dreaded lifelong Hashimoto’s/hypothyroidism. I feel amazing at the moment. I’m convinced I am meant to run on ketones. The standard diet made me depressed, anxious and was easily triggered due to past traumas.
Love waking up feeling great - slim, clear-headed, much more able to handle fear and anxiety - all thx to a keto diet. It never gets old - or difficult. In fact, it’s fun. Every other “diet” I’ve been on has been a struggle. This doesn’t even feel like a “diet.” More a natural way of life.

Shut up! I can't believe how much I just learned?! I have given birth 4 times!!! It never even crossed my mind the my baby's bodies ran on ketones at birth! That tidbit...was never in any baby book or any Nutritional office for pregnancy services. Lucky all my children...now teens and adult have been healthy throughout there lives but so important they understand the mechanics of there own bodies. Especially as they get older. Knowledge is power. Thank you so much for educational videos!
I've come to the conclusion that Ketosis is our normal state, carb-burning is occasional and short-term in the wild. For hunter-gatherers like us, carbs are expensive (rare and hard to get in bulk) in the wild. You would eat mostly meat, some roots and vegetables, and occasional fruits in season, or the occasional honey comb, etc. Carbs have only recently become cheap (bountiful and easy to get in bulk) with agriculture, and more recently industrialization. Perhaps we should stop calling ketones "alternative" fuel. I'm open to all your thoughts :)
A few things that don't add up though: - Our saliva can digest starch, not fat - Our body prefers carbs whenever possible and leaves ketosis much faster than achieving it - Turning carbs to fat and fat to glucose is a highly inefficient process, which is why our body burns carbs and stores fat whenever possible, rather than the other way around - Every long term study following low carb diets has shown increased mortality - The healthiest populations on the planet (Okinawa, India, ...) consume 80% of their calories from complex carbs - Our closest animal relatives are all herbivores or frugivores. Whether you look at gorillas, chimpanzees or any other primate, less than 10% of their calories are animals and those calories are actually insects. So it seems quite easy to get carbs in the wild. - Long before ketogenic became popular for weight loss, it was used to treat epilepsy in children and those are the few long term studies we have showing a range of side effects - Eating large meals and then fasting/resting for longer periods can be observed in carnivores but a lot of animals basically eat all day - Speaking of babies: The first milk is full of fat, because of it's larger energy density and the underdeveloped stomach. Babies only drink millileters and actually lose weight in their first week. As soon as their stomach expands, the mother provides carbohydrates, its preferred energy source.
Hi Thomas, your body will also oxidise ethanol with a very high priority. It gets rid of the most toxic fuels before moving on to clean fuels like ketones.
@@thomasfuchs9451 India is NOT a healthy population. Not even close. Taking malnutrition and poverty aside, the average person doesn't eat enough vegetables, too many starches, way too much sugar, etc. They suffer extremely high rates of diabetes and heart disease. Granted, these are diseases of people with means, but still applies.
I've just discovered your channel on TH-cam and started to watch them all. This is the one I enjoyed and also got informed most. Genuinely thank you Dr. Ekberg.

Dr Ekberg, I have been on a keto diet for only 3 weeks. I have cleaned out my pantry and fridge of sugar, flour, rice, carbohydrates and all processed foods. I am binge watching your videos from the start BUT it is taking a huge amount of time writing information down and doing screen shots of all your charts and printing them out. Unfortunately I don’t have the luxury of time (I am 70 years old) but this is the only way I can learn. I want to know if you can suggest a book I can buy to read and study with similar information and charts in it like yours. You explain everything excellently. Hoping you can help me. Big Hugs from Australia Jenny
Thank you Clare Morley. I really appreciate your feedback and so glad you liked it. The greatest compliment you can give is to help us help more people by sharing the videos.
Thank you tonytonytony140. I don't think occasional rice and potato will really do much in either a positive or negative direction, as long as you stay insulin sensitive and you get your periods of fasting in regularly. The body is very resilient and flexible. It is perfectly capable of dealing with variations in diet.
Ketosis does not fix your insulin resistance, it hides the symptoms. Eat low carb for 2 month and then a single high carb meal and watch your blood sugar.
@@thomasfuchs9451 This is very senseless. what kind of recovery do you expect in two months of avoidance of the carbs from the body when it has beem exposed to insulin resistance for great mamy years. Ketones do help recover your body. You gotta wait months if not couple of years. So it doesnt hide anything. Everything comes at a price and time is your Bribe here my friend
Once you go Keto, carbs will upset your body, your guts, you will find it best to stay off them, and you will keep the weight off without them, and you will enjoy ketosis without them. So once in awhile why not, but you may have an upset tummy like I do after eating carbs. Why not eat some of those things with low carbs instead of high carbs.
I assume you're talking about the human race as a whole. If you are, I was wondering the same thing last night. If we hadn't taken the wrong turn and chosen greed over health and ethics (whether that be greedy companies producing unsuitable food whilst lying to us about how good it is or the personal greed of overeating carbs) where would we be now in terms of lifespan and intelligence?
Could you please make a video about an appropriate diet and lifestyle for PCOS? It's a common disease and I think it could interest many people. Thank you so much in advance.
Love your talk about gluconeogenisis. My morning sugars are high (100-120) without eating carbs (20ish/day). Ketones are good though (0.5-3.5). A1C 5.2. I need to get a CGM to see what my glucose levels are doing throughout the night. Me walking around at night to take a blood sugar is not a good idea. :)

Thank you Bobby Ocampo. It can very possibly provide an edge. Don't forget to study though. And don't start the night before.😄 I ate a sort of whole food paleo diet when I was in school. I hadn't come across keto yet. I tried to never study for the tests. I studied ongoing and I always learned it to a level where i could explain it to someone else. I figured if I knew it, the tests would take care of themselves. On my board exams, I went to the car and meditated between each section.
@@drekberg Any study so far on a keto as memory enhancement diet? One lecturer in TED is saying Saturated Fats is bad for the brain. Should we recommend it to students? Please create a video. I will recommend it to my students.
What are your thoughts on pemmican? It is a 50/50 mixture of dried grass fed beef and rendered grass fed fat. The fat fat is rendered from suet from the grass fed cow. I ask because 50% protein. But apparently native Americans used this to survive the winter. If I eat only pemmican what is the impact on my body.
Hi Doctor, Thanks for all your valuable information. I am doing IF. But i am stroke patient. Kindly give advice for Stroke prevention(2nd time) and also on low blood sugar(causes and prevention)
I have done Keto Diet and had a hard time keeping it up. Is it possible to reach a middle ground with carbs and ketosis? Example: What about eating only carbs at night? No carbs at breakfast or lucnh, but eating all the carbs you want at night? Will this push me in the right direction or will it not work? My thoughts on this working are: I have read that the glucose from a meal gets used during the next 5h after the meal. If this is truely the case, then your body may start the day using glucose, but then switch a little to ketones in the afternoon until you reach your dinner. Thanks for your answer!

I was 110kg. Now I'm 80kg. I want to lose 10kg, more. Am I still insulin resistant? Can a person cure insulin resistance before they lose all the excess fat? Thx doctor
Yes, You can. I've lost 32kg (127 to 95 kg), have 62y, need no diab2 medication and only 25% of (former) dose anti high BP tablets (after 40y of high BP and 25y of taking medication). I wish You and all patients over the Worl5 at least the same succes of mine. I still wish me to loose 25 more kg! I have no doubt I will succes it ! Greetings from Slovenia, EU.
Excellent! I have a question. Some experts say that Sugar and Carbohydrates are not the same. So diabetes can eat sugar, not carbohydrate. Is it true or myth? Thank you
Thank you TM. They don't like experts to me. Sugar is a carbohydrate. Refined sugar is the worst form of carbohydrate, because it is refined, it is devoid of nutrients, 50% fructose and highly addictive. It is the worst kind of carbohydrate for diabetic.
I had a severe diab2 from 26july2017 and completely inverted it in less than 3 years. Need no medication, just mediterranean food make my wife for me, and 16-23hrs IF do it myself! Sugar is a poison, not only for diabetics and people with high BP - but for ALL people!!! Carbs if they are natural part of nonindustrial processed food - aren't dangerous in small amounts. This is so called REAL FOOD.

Hi Dr. Ekberg, I saw you mention Zevia drinks as an alternative to soft drinks a few videos back. I've been drinking Zevia for about a year or so, and lately I've been drinking them during my intermittent fasting. I'm not sure if I notice it helping or hindering. Would Zevia ruin your intermittent fasting for weight loss? Thanks for your advice!
Great video doc, I agree with all brain benefits of keto but I think gluconeogenesis is important through high quality protein intake gram for pound of body weight to maintain lean muscle tissue as you do loose lot of muscle on keto diet, lean muscle is very important specially if you are over 40 and it is symbol of longevity, only variable is carbs which can be managed by good vegetables. In my experience hardcore keto diet should be cycled and it is not meant to be lifestyle forever if you want to live active lifestyle!
Thank you once again, Dr. Ekberg, for providing such a well-presented and informative tutorial. I've always been one who believes that we never stop learning. Actually, who would want too? I find knowledge fascinating... I recently got some ketone "dip" sticks, I know they are are not an exacting method, to try to get an idea where I am at and how my body is reacting in general. I have noticed that my Mmol levels (according to the strips) tend to run on the higher range (8-16) when I am in full ketosis. I read that once our bodies get used to using ketones for fuel, those numbers should go down as our metabolism gets more efficient at producing and using them. I "think" I am fat adapted or darn close to being. I cheated the other day (had a tuna sub at "that place") and it knocked me out of ketosis... However, within a few hours, my ketones started going back up on their own and were back to the higher levels within 8... So perhaps time for the Happy Dance? (and no more Tuna subs from "that place"... Or maybe "Occasionally"?) 😁 This BTW is what happens when my brain fog clears!😱🤣
Thank you John Williams for sharing your story. I am also all for learning, but not just filling the brain with random trivia. I love getting "wiser"😄. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results. Keep it up!

I speak for myself: We need more humility. How we eat is more important than what we eat. I think the important thing for "balance" is to be in harmony with nature while eating and to integrate with the divine. The brain and intestines are in layers. Imitate the position of your brain and intestines while you eat. Sit on the floor and eat, not at the table. When you sit on the floor, you are in layers like the brain and intestines. Look at the shape of your legs, stomach, spine, am I right? Eating at the table is a betrayal of the brain and intestines. (Take everything I wrote as conjecture.) When you sit cross-legged, the distance between your brain and intestines will decrease. Because you are leaning forward to eat. This could mean: The brain and intestines are in harmony. When you sit cross-legged, your legs will look like large intestines. Your arms will look like a continuation of the large intestine. Your head, your brain, will look like part of the large intestine. In other words, the control of your intestines is completely in the hands of your brain. Thus, the food you eat will be approved by your brain and go down to your stomach. This means controlled nutrition. Lack of control can cause obesity. Leaning forward and sitting in a low position means gratitude and humility towards God. Every time you bend forward to eat, it's as if you're prostrating and thanking God for every bite. All food originates from the soil. When you sit cross-legged, you are now closer to the ground. Thus, you become one with nature.
My question is if I am eating carbs. And taking bhb What is process first and does the ketones circulate in the blood. Very insulin resistant, never sweated until now. Taking potassium magnesium I’m a diabetic so I’ve had to hold back on metformin. 500mg
Thank You SwaDee Dow. Be patient and eat clean food. It is also possible that you are developing a sensitivity to something that your body is detoxing. While there are many general things that a person can do to improve their health, such as reducing sugar, grain and processed foods. Some conditions are a little more complicated and require very specific analysis of the body. In my office we use Nutrition Response Testing to find and handle the root cause of the problem.

I am following keto for last six months and lost 20 lbs . In my recent blood test found out I have high LDL, trygliceride and HDL are normal. Can you please create a video about it , like why it happens,do we need to worry about it ,any natural remedies etc. Thanks Dr. in advance.
Don’t worry when you are on Keto, your blood tests will show high LDL. Everything should be a a course of better health, don’t give up on Keto
Thank you Diane Mary for sharing your story. That is great. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results. Keep it up!
When it suffers a little it has a reason to get better This has layers of truth, Thank you.
Thanks doc. I’ve been following your channel and recommendations since May. I've been in IF since then, from 90kg. now I’m in 74.5kg.
How long do you fast? 16 or 23 hours? You eat only keto?
Thank you edgar manriquez for sharing your story. That is great. I am so happy you have had such great results. Keep it up!
eMR at frist 16:8 IF fir 1month and 8000 steps/day and after 20:4 IF and and 10,000 steps /day and currently I ‘m in OMAD with 15,000 to 20,000 steps per day and 50 squats with 30seconds planking .
eMR I started since May 16, no coke , no table sugar in any form. Drink at least 2ML of water a day. My belly fat is now gone.
Dr. Sten Ekberg thank you Doc.
Thank you Lens Guitar Lessons And Violin Progress. I think you hit it right on the spot.😄
Also, modern fruits (and some vegetables) are significantly higher in sugar than their ancient counterparts
A few things that don't add up though:
- Our saliva can digest starch, not fat
- Our body prefers carbs whenever possible and leaves ketosis much faster than achieving it
- Turning carbs to fat and fat to glucose is a highly inefficient process, which is why our body burns carbs and stores fat whenever possible, rather than the other way around
- Every long term study following low carb diets has shown increased mortality
- The healthiest populations on the planet (Okinawa, India, ...) consume 80% of their calories from complex carbs
- Our closest animal relatives are all herbivores or frugivores. Whether you look at gorillas, chimpanzees or any other primate, less than 10% of their calories are animals and those calories are actually insects. So it seems quite easy to get carbs in the wild.
- Long before ketogenic became popular for weight loss, it was used to treat epilepsy in children and those are the few long term studies we have showing a range of side effects
- Eating large meals and then fasting/resting for longer periods can be observed in carnivores but a lot of animals basically eat all day
- Speaking of babies: The first milk is full of fat, because of it's larger energy density and the underdeveloped stomach.

Hello dr. When we fix insulin resistance and still decide to not eat rice and potatoes, will our health and longevity be optimized further? Thank you
Thank you tonytonytony140.
So abundantly clear and well produced... thank you.
I can't believe I'm watching all this amazing content for free... Thank you for all your hard work.

:)

Does it mean that KETO DIET will improve memory for an examination? Like Board Exam?
Seems to improve overall brain function, reduce brain fog, more mental clarity.

Any study so far on a keto as memory enhancement diet?

In mastering any subject, one must return to it on a regular basis to remain informed.
This is one of the most convincing pieces of evidence for the ketogenic diet.

Yes, You can. I've lost 32kg (127 to 95 kg), have 62y, need no diab2 medication and only 25% of (former) dose anti high BP tablets (after 40y of high BP and 25y of taking medication).

Any research that ketones help improve learning 💀 and memory for students👩🎓? Is keto 🥑🥓🥚🧀 diet better in preparation for examination?
@@drekberg Thank you
I had a severe diab2 from 26july2017 and completely inverted it in less than 3 years.

Or maybe "Occasionally"?) 😁
This BTW is what happens when my brain fog clears!😱🤣
Thank you John Williams for sharing your story. I am also all for learning, but not just filling the brain with random trivia. I love getting "wiser"😄. I am thrilled that you have seen such great results. Keep it up!

What is your opinion on sprint swimming without breathing for 25meters or 50meters and brain health?
Thank you Doc, great vid
Very welcome
I speak for myself:
We need more humility.
(Take everything I wrote as conjecture.)
When you sit cross-legged, the distance between your brain and intestines will decrease.
Because you are leaning forward to eat.
This could mean:
The brain and intestines are in harmony.
WOW!!! Thank you...I love and save all your videos, this one has been amazing
