Whether Rawlings killed Afrifa or not, Afrifa deserved to die at that point. His useless coup with kotoka in 1966 is the reason Ghana is still struggling. That very coup in 1966 shattered de whole vision of Nkrumah and Nkrumah truely died as a result.
Ghana’s economy today is worse than ever. We are indeed suffering in the hands of stomach politicians.

These chaps arrogated to themselves the right to play God with other people's lives - to be the be-it-all and know-it-all in the country. They took it upon themselves to be the master brains - the people who knew and understood what the problems of this country were - people who knew who were responsible for creating the problems - they told themselves they knew how to fix the problems - they decided who had to be killed to atone for "sufferings" of the people etc. Now they killed people who even they describe as "good people" - so why did the good people have to die? One needs to ask who and how the initial list of those to be executed was prepared? Was it not just a list compiled by the very one who allegedly handed it in to whomsoever? What was the crime of those people? How did their death benefit the people of this country? Was it not just so those who staged the coup could save their own asses? What does it mean to say General Afrifa was being provocative? Exactly what did Afrifa do? The fact is these guys had arrogated to themselves the position of the be-it-all-and know-it-all for and on behalf of the people Ghana when in actual fact they were just seeking to create opportunities for themselves. In the process they murdered lots of people for which they fail to show any remorse. In the process they also enriched themselves but they think that's all very well. It's amazing how people can get away with murder (both literally and figuratively) in this country. But this is a life in which what goes round surely comes around - we must not forget that.

Rawlings said: "I hope you will be alive to read [my] book". Meaning: he was not writing any book, so even if the reporter lived forever, he would see no such book to read. General Ojukwu made a similar promise to us when he was alive, he even boasted that his book on Biafra was over 50% done, yet over a decade since his death, the truth is that he wrote no book. It is really disappointing because their legacies will remain shrouded in gossips, innuendos, rumors, and second guessing forever, even though they could have avoided such situations by writing their memoirs. Even if General Afrifa did what Rawlings ascribed to the unnamed dubious General, it didn't deserve recrimination from the government because the donated money was not state fund. But for Rawlings' naivety as a young man then, I would have considered his acquiescence to Afrifa's execution to cowardice and parochialism.

Now who is this person who gave him those advises..he was naive and didn't know much about politics and looked up to this General... I personally feel so sad about General Afrifa's fate.. I have a lot of disdain for the CIA engineered overthrow of Nkrumah especially the architects and leaders of the coup ... but just like U have the Akyem mafia, the Sogakope mafia needed Afrifa assassinated to compensate for the death of their hero Kotoka... period... Rawlings later revealed Kotoka to be his hero.... enough said... Question why was Gbedemah allowed to live virtually free and participate in political affairs of Ghana when the rest of the CPP leadership was barred.... why was Harley not assassinated.... all thanks to the micronationalists of the Sogakope mafia.... U see just like Asantes typically matemeho, secessionists when things do not go their away .. there is a group who cannot have Togo to rule so dearly wreck havoc in Ghana unless they rule.... Eyadema and his tribesmen/ilk have sewn up Togo so Ghana has to suffer for that..

By watching this interview i felt cooled by J J's statement on Gen Afrifa. I had read a lot about the Ghanian political antecedents from 1966 to date but i had never been puzzled as now. How could someone snipped the life of a fellow human simply because another person want it that way. Life is sacred. In any case, he had summed it all by saying that he was naive and if i may add, not having the age advantage.

The soldiers of 1966 coup need to be punished. In America and in Europe, the soldiers will face the same capital punishment for betraying their own country to the worst enemies the CIA and European leaders of Ghana and Africa. So, I now understand that Rawlings did the right thing. Why should small number of soldiers and their families enjoy life for selling out Ghana and millions of people, children and families suffer hardship. The soldiers were very wrong and did it for their own personal Selfish interests Gains and not for the benefit of the millions of people in Ghana. What goes round comes round. May President Nkrumah rest in Peace and so to Rawlings.
